NYPD searching for 3 suspects in deadly shooting on Bronx subway

NEW YORK - A man was shot and killed early Friday morning on the subway in the
Bronx.

Police say they are searching for at least three suspects who were wearing all
black.

CBS New York has learned transit officials will provide an update from the scene
around 1 p.m.

The shooting happened shortly after 5 a.m. on a southbound D train approaching
the East 182 Street and Grand Concourse station in Fordham Heights.

Police said a 45-year-old man was shot once in the chest. He was rushed to Saint
Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Video from the scene showed first responders treating the victim on the subway
platform before he was taken away on a stretcher.

"People said there's been a shooting, so don't go over there, skip that train.
So I skipped the train so I could go to another train," one witness who was on
the platform told CBS New York's Elijah Westbrook. "I was totally, totally
shocked. Like people are screaming this time, like go back."

"Thank god my daughter's in the house, I have a 12-year-old daughter, and thank
god she's in the house. Now I'm going to work, let's see how I can get there,"
another person in the area said.

The MTA says B and D trains are bypassing the station, as the investigation
continues.

So far, there's no word on what led up to the shooting.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the NYPD's Crime
Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA
(74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on
Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
