BILL RICHTER

Bio//

 

Bill Richter is a horn player, music educator, and composer currently living in
Morgantown, West Virginia. He is currently a doctoral candidate at West Virginia
University where he is a Doctor of Musical Arts student in Horn Performance. In
addition, he is also a composition student. Prior to his time at West Virginia
University, he earned his Master of Arts in Music Performance from Indiana
University of Pennsylvania and his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Kent
State University. Through his time in school, Bill has studied horn with Bill
Slocum, Stacie Mickens, Kent Larmee, Heidi Lucas, Sarah Schouten, and Jonas
Thoms. He has studied composition with Yu-Chun Chien. 



When it comes to performing, Bill is a huge advocate of music by living
composers. He has commissioned works from composers including Adam Wolf, Brett
Miller, Scott Little, Samantha Hogan, David Martynuik, Luke Hamilton, and
Anthony O'Toole. Outside of academic ensembles, Bill has performed with groups
such as the Youngstown Scoring Stage and the International Fellowship of
Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators. 



Bill has composed and arranged several pieces that involve the horn of various
styles and instrumentations. His compositions have been performed at various
universities and his arrangements have been performed for university recitals
and regional horn conferences.
