Apple Sports now lets you track a game’s biggest plays.

Along with bringing a key plays section to the Play-By-Play tab, the latest
Apple Sports update adds pregame lineups for soccer and baseball games as well.

You can also schedule Live Activities for more games and view league standings
that show “which teams have qualified for the postseason and which have been
eliminated.”

It’s an announcement. It’s a trailer. It’s an announcement about the Superman
trailer.

In a sensible world, studios would just post trailers rather than appointment
viewing events that need grand proclamations about their imminent arrival. But
we live here and DC Studios wants you to know that the trailer for James Gunn’s
Superman is dropping this Thursday.

Maybe you can own a vibe?

An extremely beige influencer’s allegations she was imitated by another, also
extremely beige, influencer have cleared an early legal hurdle:

> The judge apparently found plausible Gifford’s allegation that Sheil imitated
> her “outfits, poses, hairstyles, makeup, and voice” in a way that enabled
> Gifford’s followers to identify Gifford as the person whose identity was
> appropriated.

Be careful out there, beigefluencers.

Casio’s recreation of its first G-Shock watch is coming to the US.

The G-Shock DW-5000R — a faithful recreation of Casio’s first durable digital
watch — debuted in Japan last week after being announced last month. At the time
it wasn’t known if the watch would get an international release, but a new
listing on Casio’s US site confirms the G-Shock DW-5000R is coming to America
sometime in December 2024 for $200.

More tech regulation cometh.

Ofcom has published the first codes of practice and guidance in support of the
UK’s Online Safety Act meant to protect children and adults from over 130
“priority offences” including terror, hate, fraud, and sexual abuse. Tech
companies of all sizes have until March 16th, 2025 to conduct risk assessments
and to then begin implementing measures to protect users, assuming parliamentary
procedures go as planned.

In a statement, Ofcom said:

> For too long, sites and apps have been unregulated, unaccountable and
> unwilling to prioritise people’s safety over profits. That changes from today.
> The safety spotlight is now firmly on tech firms and it’s time for them to
> act. Those that come up short can expect Ofcom to use the full extent of our
> enforcement powers against them.

Failure to comply could result in fines up to £18M (about $23M) or 10 percent of
worldwide revenue — whichever is greater — and a country-wide ban.

Finding stuff with AirTags could get much easier next year.

The next version of Apple’s item-tracking device will feature an Ultra Wideband
chip that’s “on par with the one introduced in the iPhone 15,” Bloomberg’s Mark
Gurman writes in Power On today.

He says that would effectively triple its range from the current model, which he
notes has up to a 30-meter range. The AirTag successor is expected to come in
2025.

Listen y’all, it’s a sabotage.

Folks in the online AI research community are upset after the world’s biggest AI
conference, NeurIPS, gave its prestigious Best Paper Award to, among others, a
controversial former ByteDance intern named Keyu Tian, writes Wired.

ByteDance allegedly dismissed Tian for sabotaging colleagues’ AI research and
hoarded resources for his own work — accusations detailed in an anonymous GitHub
blog calling for the award to be revoked.

Federal appeals court won’t stop the TikTok ban from taking effect on January
19th.

The same three judges who ruled last week that a TikTok divest-or-ban law is
Constitutional ruled against the company again today and declined to temporarily
pause it from taking effect on January 19th.

In response, TikTok said again that it’s taking the case to the Supreme Court.
