Home > About the AMS ABOUT USADVANCING RESEARCH. CREATING CONNECTIONS. MEET THE AMERICAN MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY A professional society since 1888, we advance research and connect the diverse global mathematical community through publications, meetings and conferences, MathSciNet, professional services, advocacy, and awareness programs. SUPPORTING Some 30,000 individuals and 570 institutions worldwide make up the Society. AMS membership supports the mathematical sciences by providing access to research, professional networking, conferences and events, advocacy, and a connection to a community passionate about mathematics and its relationship to other disciplines and everyday life: The AMS seeks to support all members of the mathematics community and to encourage young people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to pursue their interests in the mathematical sciences. — Ruth Charney AMS President * Journals, books, and other publications * Meetings and conferences * Grants, employment services, research communities, prizes and awards * Resources for careers in academia, business, industry and government * Advocacy for policy decisions and funding to support mathematics research ENGAGING We welcome participation to inspire and connect individuals across cultural, international, and disciplinary boundaries. We also sponsor mathematicians and mathematical and scientific groups across disciplines, geographic regions and career stages. We believe in: * Working collegially to advance collaboration for mathematics research, teaching and learning * Publishing books, journals, blogs and other resources on teaching and learning mathematics * Recognizing excellence in mathematics research, teaching and learning * Providing support to partners and collaborators SERVING Our success relies on the invaluable engagement of hundreds of volunteers who serve as officers and committee members.
