What are SmileDirectClub aligners made of?

Our aligners are made with BPA-free plastic that feels smooth and comfortable
and won't irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces often do.
We use Comfort Sense™ technology to design the soft, medium, and firm aligner
plastics that help safely and gradually move your teeth.

Are attachments or buttons required to move teeth with SmileDirectClub aligners?

No. Unlike Invisalign, we don't require the use of attachments or buttons, which
are generally considered unsightly and uncomfortable.

How do I know if I’m right for SmileDirectClub clear aligners?

Every SmileDirectClub order begins with a free Smile Assessment, then a
from-home impression kit or free in-person 3D scan to determine if
SmileDirectClub aligners are right for you. Our aligner treatment plans are
designed for mild-to-moderate teeth correction, including treating space between
teeth, crowding, rotations, and some bite correction.

How long do I need to wait after having my wisdom teeth removed before I can
start with SmileDirectClub?

Typically, you will need to wait six weeks after having your third molars (or
wisdom teeth) extracted before starting with SmileDirectClub. If your dentist or
surgeon feels it’s safe, you may be able to start earlier with a signed release
form from their office.

What if I still have my wisdom teeth?

If your dentist has recommended removal of wisdom teeth, then please follow that
direction. If not, you can purchase our from-home impression kit or book a free,
in-person 3D scan, and a state-licensed dentist or orthodontist will review your
smile for you. And if they determine that SmileDirectClub aligner treatment
isn’t right for you, we'll refund the cost of your impression kit.

Am I a candidate for SmileDirectClub if I have an implant?

Our aligners can work for people with implants. You can purchase our from-home

Treatment with Nighttime Aligners™ is a safe and effective path to a straighter
smile. As with any aligner treatment plan, you should follow your prescription
from your state-licensed dentist or orthodontist of 10 continuous hours of wear
per night. While the average Nighttime Aligners™ treatment time may be longer
than the average 22 hour wear aligner treatment time, this discreet and flexible

How are SmileDirectClub Nighttime Aligners™ different from SmileDirectClub’s
22-hour aligner treatment plan?

Treatment plans using Nighttime Aligners™ provide a more discreet, flexible
option for people with mild to moderate spacing and crowding issues. They'll

Our 22-hour-a-day aligner therapy is a faster option for people wanting a

How do I choose between an impression kit and a in-person 3D scan?

An in-person 3D scan can be done at any SmileShop. During a 30-minute
appointment, a SmileGuide will make a 3D image of your smile that they'll send
directly to our lab so a dental professional can get started on designing your
custom treatment plan. SmileShops are located across the country – find one near
you on our Locations page. If you’re not near a SmileShop, or if you’d rather
get started in the comfort of your own home, an easy-to-use impression kit may
be right for you. Simply use the kit to take impressions of your smile, then
send it back to us. Return shipping is free. Just drop your completed kit in the
mail.

Is the cost of my impression kit refundable?

Yes. Our 30-Day Money-Back Promise is designed to ensure your satisfaction.

What if I make a mistake on my impressions?

What is a SmileShop?

It’s your first step to getting a smile you’ll love. During your visit, a
SmileGuide will take a 3D image of your current smile. That image will be sent
to a state-licensed dentist or orthodontist in our network who will review your
results and, if they determine our aligners are a fit for you, prescribe your
treatment plan. The SmileGuide will be there to answer any questions you have,
and you can expect the visit to last about 30 mins. And you'll go home with free
bright on® teeth whitening so you can start improving your smile right away .

How do I schedule a scanning appointment?

Simply book a visit on our Locations page. You’ll be offered a few dates and
times to choose from, and our team will follow up to confirm your scheduled
appointment.

What happens if I am late for my appointment?

Life happens – we understand. Please call us at 1-800-688-4010 and let us know
when we can expect you to arrive at the SmileShop. We'll do everything in our
power to work you into the schedule.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?

Give us a call at 1-800-688-4010 at least 24 hours before your appointment time
to reschedule your appointment and avoid a cancellation fee.

How long does the scan take?

About 20 to 30 minutes, give or take.

How does the scanning technology work?

Our SmileGuides use a highly accurate 3D optical camera to capture a digital map
of your smile, including your teeth and gumlines. This 3D image helps your
prescribing dentist or orthodontist determine if our aligners are a fit for your
smile, and allows us to create your personalized treatment plan using Smart
Sculpt™ technology.

What are the SmileGuide's qualifications?

SmileGuides are trained to efficiently and accurately capture a 3D image of your
smile. Many of our SmileGuides are registered dental assistants, dental
hygienists, or home health aides. We actively monitor and evaluate the quality
of their work – including your experience. Our SmileGuides can answer any
questions you have about our service, process, and technology, as well as most
questions about straightening your smile using SmileDirectClub aligners.

What if I can’t or don’t want to go to a SmileShop?

That’s no problem at all. We also offer an easy-to-use, from-home impression kit
that includes an online photo assessment and dental impressions.


TREATMENT PROCESS

Does a licensed dentist or orthodontist review my case?

Yes. Every Club members clear aligner treatment plan is doctor-directed and
doctor-managed from start to finish.

Can I view what my expected results will be after treatment is completed?

Yes, after we receive your impressions or 3D image, we create a custom treatment
plan which shows a before and after 3D visualization of how your teeth will move
with treatment. Your treatment plan can be viewed in your account.

How long is the typical treatment process?

SmileDirectClub aligners move all teeth simultaneously, distributing force
equally across your entire mouth. The majority of SmileDirectClub’s treatment
plans are 4-6 months.

Smart Sculpt™ technology allows us to carefully plan the coordinated movements
of every tooth, for a more precise, doctor-prescribed treatment plan that safely

Can I use SmileDirectClub aligners on only my upper or lower teeth?

It’s possible. Your state-licensed dentist or orthodontist will decide what is
the safest and best treatment option for you.

How do I use my Movemints?

Movemints help you seat the aligners on your teeth. After you insert your
aligners, simply put a Movemint between your teeth, and chew as if it were a
piece of gum. Use your Movemints for 10–15 minutes at a time, 2–3 times per day.

Why don’t my aligners cover my molars?

Our goal is to make your custom aligners the appropriate size to realign your
smile while being as unobtrusive as possible. Your aligners should cover at
least one third of each molar.

How often should I wear my aligners?

Wear your aligners as directed by your prescribed treatment plan. Take them out
for eating and drinking.

Will my teeth hurt during treatment?

Much like the days after a good workout at the gym, most people experience some
tooth soreness for a few days after wearing new aligners. This is perfectly
normal. It is a sign that your aligners are working, gently moving your teeth to
their final destination. This soreness should gradually go away after the first
few days of wearing new aligners. If the pain doesn't go away, contact our
customer care team at 1-800-848-7566

Are there any visits to a dental office during treatment?

Aside from their regular dental cleanings, most Club members don't need to make
any additional visits to a dental office during their aligner treatment.

What happens if I lose an aligner?

We know that mistakes happen, which is why it’s important to always keep your
previous aligner sets. Give our customer care team a call at 1-800-848-7566 so
we can understand where you are in your smile journey and our dental team can
provide the best solution for you. Your treating doctor and our dental team may
advise you to wear your last set of aligners or to move on to the next set. Your
first replacement is free. Subsequent replacement aligners may be subject to a
$99 surcharge depending on the circumstances.

What happens after my aligner treatment is complete?

Protect your investment! We strongly recommend you safeguard your new smile with
our custom-fit SmileDirectClub retainers. Without retainers, teeth have a
tendency to shift back to their original positions. Keep them from moving back
with our custom-fit retainers. One set costs $99 and is available to purchase
toward the end of your treatment. Call our customer care team at 1-800-848-7566
about 4–5 weeks before you finish your treatment plan to place your order.

How do I preserve my new smile after treatment?

As with any orthodontic treatment, you'll need regular retainer wear to maintain
your new smile. For the first 2 weeks after your smile treatment, you'll wear
your retainers 24 hours a day (except for eating and drinking). After that,
you'll wear them only while you sleep.

We stand behind your smile for life with our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™. As long
as you stay current on your retainers, ordering 2 sets per year and wearing them
as prescribed, we’ll provide an aligner touch-up per year at no cost to you if
your teeth move out of alignment.

How do I change my email or mailing address on file?

Making changes to your account information is easy. Log in to your account on

How can I keep track of when to change my aligners?

You can keep track of your aligners by logging into your account on our website.
Once at your dashboard, simply enter the date on which you start wearing your
first set of aligners and we’ll send you reminders to change to the next set.

You can log in to see when you’re scheduled to change to your next set, which
aligner you should be wearing, and how many days and aligners you have left in
your treatment plan. If you ever get off course because of a vacation or
forgetting to wear your aligners, you can always reset your dashboard by
clicking the Get Back on Track button.

directly with the insurance company, so you only pay the balance of what you owe
after insurance coverage is applied to your total treatment cost. There are some

How do I return my aligners?

Follow these steps to return your aligners:

During treatment, teeth can sometimes be stubborn and not shift as expected.

conducts regular check-ins to track your progress.

When an adjustment might be needed, our dental team flag this for your treating
doctor who will then review and approve a modified treatment plan. When
an aligner touch-up is needed and the new treatment plan has been approved and

Are aligners painful to wear?

Does my teen need to have their wisdom teeth out?

Each orthodontic case is unique and different. If your teen’s regular dentist
has recommended removal of their wisdom teeth, then please follow that direction
before beginning aligner treatment.

Is there a midpoint check-in with a dentist, and if so, what can we expect
during that check-in?

Your teen will receive regular reminders for Smile Check-ins™ with their doctor
via our telehealth platform or the app, so their progress can be monitored.
During that time, you’ll provide pictures of your teen wearing their aligners so
your prescribing doctor can evaluate fit and movement. The doctor will make sure

Do you fix complex bite or jaw issues?

How do I prevent my teen from losing their aligners?

Encourage your teen to keep their aligner case in the same easily accessible
spot, and to always bring their case with them when they’re leaving home. They
can store their aligners in the case while eating or drinking and put them back
in their mouth once finished. If you’re traveling for an extended period of
time, be sure to pack your teen's next set of aligners, so they can switch them
while you’re away from home.

What is the right age to start straightening teeth?

Individuals must be at least 12 years old to begin treatment with
SmileDirectClub. Additionally, all permanent teeth must be present. For those
under the age of 18, a parent or guardian signature is required on the provided
medical and dental history form.

How do I follow my teen’s progress?

You can keep track of your teen’s treatment using our telehealth platform or the
SmileDirectClub app. On the dashboard, enter the date on which your teen starts
wearing their first set of aligners, then we’ll do the rest. You can log in to
see which aligners they should be wearing, when they’re scheduled to switch to
their next set, and how many days/aligners they have left in their treatment
plan. If your teen ever gets off course after taking a vacation or forgetting to
wear their aligners, just reset their dashboard by selecting the Get Back on
Track button.

How does my teen know when to switch their aligners?

When your teen receives their aligners, they should log in to their account at
SmileDirectClub.com/checkin, or on the SmileDirectClub app, to let us know
they’ve received them. We’ll send notifications when it’s time to switch to a
new set of aligners. They’ll also receive a prompt to upload progress pictures
so their assigned doctor can monitor their progress through our telehealth
platform. Using the dashboard will encourage teens to stay on track to get a

How do I use the LED accelerator light?

First brush your teeth, but don't floss. Open the bright on® premium whitening
pen and twist the bottom until a droplet of gel is visible on the brush. Using a
circular motion, brush the gel onto your 6 top and 6 bottom front teeth. Then
plug the LED light into your smartphone using the appropriate attachment, insert
it into your mouth, and wear it for up to 10 minutes. It’s normal for the gel to
foam on your teeth, and it’s harmless if you happen to swallow some. Once you're
finished, take the light out of your mouth and spit out any excess gel.

How do I clean the LED accelerator light?

Remove the detachable cables from the LED light to avoid damaging them. Using

Why isn’t the SmileDirectClub app available for my device?

Since our app is supported by current approved devices, some older devices may

Why is the app shutting down after I sign in?

What is the value of offering SmileDirectClub in my practice?

SmileDirectClub can help you grow your practice at no additional cost and
without requiring extensive aligner experience. We provide increased access to
patients who might not otherwise pursue orthodontic treatment. SmileDirectClub
enables you to offer individuals a more accessible, convenient, and affordable
teeth straightening option.

What types of cases qualify for SmileDirectClub treatment?

SmileDirectClub treatment is designed for correcting mild-to-moderate crowding
and spacing, including rotations and some bite issues.

What types of information do you collect?

On behalf of our network of affiliated state-licensed dentists and
orthodontists, we collect photographs and 3D images of the patients’ teeth, as
well as their health and dental histories. This information is housed on our
proprietary telehealth platform for orthodontia and used by treating doctors to
assess candidacy for aligner therapy. If the doctor determines additional
information is needed, such as a perio clearance or an X-ray, they can request
it through the platform.

Do you require an in-person exam prior to treatment?

No; however, all SmileDirectClub customers must verify that they have visited a
dentist within 6 months of starting clear aligner treatment. Conducting an
in-person exam to meet this requirement is possible, but it is outside the scope
of services you provide as a Partner Network provider. If the SmileDirectClub
customer would like to establish a relationship with you as a treating provider,
we encourage you to follow your established new patient intake protocols.

What happens if one of my patients that I've referred to SmileDirectClub
contacts my practice with a SmileDirectClub medical or billing question?

You should refer your patient or any individual for whom you collected
information to SmileDirectClub. For those patients in your care who are also
SmileDirectClub customers, we recognize this is your patient and your reputation
- and both mean a lot to us. To be as responsive as possible, we offer 24/7
access to support from our Customer Care and Dental Care teams via phone, video
chat, email and social media to handle any questions SDC customers have about
their aligner treatment plan.



If your patient reaches out to you with questions regarding a touch-up to their
treatment plan (in other words, mid-course corrections or refinements), our
Dental Care team will be able to handle those conversations as well.



Of course, for any questions your patients have for you that are not
specifically related to their SDC aligner treatment, we defer to the
relationship you have established with your patients and your standards for
providing dental care.

What happens if they're not a good candidate for SmileDirectClub aligners?

While SmileDirectClub can help most people straighten their smiles, some cases
might be too complex. If our affiliated state-licensed dentists and
orthodontists determine our aligners cannot fix a smile, we'll let the
individual know and tell them to call you for a recommendation or referral to
another provider who can address their orthodontic concerns.

How do you handle a dental care need during treatment?

In addition to the 24/7 access that SDC customers have to our Customer Care and
Dental Care teams, their SmileDirectClub treating doctor will also conduct
regular virtual check-ins through our telehealth platform to ensure the patient
is progressing well through treatment. If our Dental Care team determines that
additional dental care is needed, we will have your patient call you for a
recommendation.

Who holds the liability for SmileDirectClub’s treatment and for addressing any
patient queries?

SmileDirectClub and its network of affiliated state-licensed dentists and
orthodontists are responsible for the provision of your patient's aligner
treatment, and it is our responsibility to address queries relating to aligner
treatment. We work diligently to ensure good outcomes. SmileDirectClub customers
have 24/7 access to our Customer Care and Dental Care teams. SmileDirectClub's
network of affiliated state-licensed dentists and orthodontists prescribe and
manage cases via our robust telehealth platform.

Does SmileDirectClub aligner therapy come with buttons, attachments,
cutouts/elastics, bite ramps, etc.?

No. SmileDirectClub aligners are designed to correct mild-to-moderate crowding
and spacing, which do not require these types of adjuncts to complete treatment.

What happens if my patient is not happy with their results?

SmileDirectClub has successfully helped more than 1.5 million people around the
world get a smile they love. We offer complimentary touch-ups, otherwise known
as refinements and mid-course corrections, as necessary throughout treatment.



If a SmileDirectClub customer is not happy for any reason within the first 30
days of treatment, they can return their unused custom-made clear aligners, and
all payments they've made for their aligners will be refunded.



Additionally, as part of our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™, customers who have
completed treatment and followed their treatment plan, but haven't achieved
their desired smile, can contact us to have their treating doctor re-evaluate
their results. If a re-evaluation is approved, they may be eligible for
additional aligners to continue their journey at no additional cost.



Finally, we stand behind our customers' smiles for life. As long as they stay
current on their retainer subscription from SDC and are wearing them as
prescribed, we'll provide aligner touch-ups at no additional cost. That's our
Lifetime Smile Guarantee.

What happens if an SDC customer loses an aligner and reaches out to me?

If a SmileDirectClub customer calls you about a lost or damaged aligner, have
them call out Customer Care or Dental Care team at 1-800-688-4010. You can also
direct them to chat with us via our website or the SmileDirectClub app. Our
Dental Care team will review the issue directly with the patient to provide the
best recommendation based on their unique situation.

How do I know if an individual's impression have been accepted or if their
aligners have gone into production?

You'll receive an auto-response when a file is uploaded. Any missing or
additional information required will be communicated to you in your patient
portal or with a phone call for our team. In the case that the individual is not
a good candidate for SmileDirectClub, they will not be charged by
SmileDirectClub. Thereafter, if the individual from whom you collected
information is also one of your patients, you can choose to refer your patient
elsewhere or offer another traditional orthodontia option for their complex
case.

Do individuals have to provide their payment method to purchase aligners in the
office?

No. Individuals always have the option t wait until their treatment plan is
created before entering their payment method. We have found, however, that
fast-tracking aligners into production by collecting individuals' credit card
information in-office is widely accepted by SDC customers and helps them start
treatment as soon as possible.

How do SDC customers order retainers?

As treatment ends, they'll be notified automatically to purchase retainers
through our telehealth platform.

Who verifies the dental or orthodontic insurance coverage for my patients that I
refer to SmileDirectClub?

Thanks to multiple insurance partnerships, SmileDirectClub is covered in-network
with almost all major dental insurers in the U.S. - making access to our premium
teeth straightening option even more affordable. After the SDC customer submits
their insurance information in our telehealth platform, the SmileDirectClub
Customer Care team will verify insurance and apply any discount for which they
may be eligible.

What are the Smile Check-ins™?

Smile Check-ins™ let your Dental Care team see how your teeth are moving as they
guide your treatment. You'll have regular virtual Smile Check-ins™ so your
Dental Care team can be with you every step of the way.

Is there a minimum age required to use SmileDirectClub aligners?

Our minimum age for treatment is Minimum Age for treatment - 12 years old, and
all permanent teeth must be present. For Club members under the age of 18, we
need a parent/guardian signature on the medical and dental history form during
the evaluation step.

Does SmileDirectClub ship internationally?

SmileDirectClub aligners are available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, United
Kingdom, France and Ireland.

Do you have before and after photos of patients who have used the
SmileDirectClub aligners?

Yes. You can see many before and after photos as well as video testimonials on
our Results page.

Can I purchase impression kits for friends or family members?

Yes, you may purchase impression kits and aligners for more than one individual.
The best way to do so is to make sure each individual's account is tied to a
unique email address, regardless of who made the purchase.

While we’re actively working to allow a single user account to manage multiple
individuals, for now you'll need to purchase each kit under a different email
address to ensure proper prescription and monitoring of each treatment. If you
only have one email address, there are many free email services available that
you can use.

I canceled my SmileDirectClub account. Can I reopen it?

Yes. If you canceled your order, you can restart at any time by submitting a new
Smile Assessment. Start by selecting Am I a candidate?

I wasn’t eligible for treatment when I purchased my impression kit or SmileShop
visit. I’ve since addressed the concerns (cavities, wisdom teeth, etc.). Can I
use SmileDirectClub now?

Yes. If you’ve fixed the eligibility concerns, you can restart your case by
submitting a new Smile Assessment. Start by selecting Am I a candidate?

What if I think my teeth need more movement at the end of my treatment plan?

We’re here to help you get a straighter, brighter smile. If at the end of
treatment, having followed the treatment plan prescribed by your state-licensed
dentist or orthodontist, you don’t achieve the smile you love, contact us so
your doctor can re-evaluate your results. If your aligner touch-up is approved,
you may be eligible for additional aligners to continue your journey. Learn more
