More info Thank you for subscribingWe have more newslettersShow meSee ourprivacy notice Bristol Rovers have signed striker Ryan Loft from Scunthorpe United, the Gas announced on Tuesday. The 24-year-old target man has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, subject to a medical. Loft, who scored six goals for Scunthorpe this season, told the club's website: “I’m buzzing. I can’t wait to get started and show the Rovers fans what I can do.” Joey Barton has been eager to make additions this month to bolster his side's chances of moving into play-off contention in League Two, and he is pleased to get a deal done early. “We are delighted to bring Ryan in", the manager said. "At 24, he’s a perfect age, full of potential and we know what he can bring to the club. "The January transfer window is notoriously difficult to navigate, so it’s been great to strike early.” Loft has been handed the number 38 shirt, but Gasheads will have to wait for his debut with the striker cup=tied for the FA Cup fixture at Peterborough United on Saturday. PROMOTED STORIES The 6ft 3in forward came through the ranks at Leicester City and joined Scunthorpe in August 2020 after he was released by the Foxes. Loft leaves Glanford Park after scoring nine goals in 43 appearances for the Iron, and he joins Rovers not only tasked with providing a scoring the threat but offering a focal point for Rovers' attack. Amid injury problems for Brett Pitman and Leon Clarke, Barton had found success with makeshift selections up front. But Loft's arrival gives him a true target man, who he hopes will link well with the likes of Antony Evans, Sam Nicholson and Aaron Collins.
