DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY - MAKING HEALTHCARE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL 

1. We don’t replicate some of the major services the NHS provide

 * We're not a health insurance provider. We complement the NHS by offering
   access to private healthcare.

 * To keep costs low, we don't replicate some of the major services provided by
   the NHS. For example, joint replacements, and brain, heart and cancer
   treatment.

 * We offer immediate access to 24/7 medical and support helplines. Plus after
   six months you get access to diagnosis and after 24 months^ access to
   surgical treatment at hospitals nationwide when there's a wait above our
   current NHS wait time threshold. 

2. Your monthly fee is put into a fund for the benefit of everyone

To keep our healthcare costs low, our services are provided to you on a
discretionary basis and are subject to the resources we have available. This
means:

 * We'll ask for a referral from a qualified NHS practitioner for any request
   for treatment or diagnosis.

 * We'll ask you to stay on the NHS unless your wait time meets our threshold.

 * Access to over 200 procedures. These procedures are considered less complex
   and are typically considered as elective, which means it is planned in
   advance and is not considered an emergency. 

3. Membership limits and exclusions

 * There are some limits and exclusions to membership. Examples of medical
   treatment not on our approved procedures list are joint replacements, and
   brain, heart and cancer treatment. Please review these to make sure we're the
   right fit for you and your family.

 * We also want to reassure you that our discretionary approach has served our
   members well for more than 115 years.

 * This approach means we can manage our funds and our services to help you and
   your family when you need our support.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


How much does Benenden Health cost?

The price of membership is £15.50 per person, per month and is reviewed
annually.

Does everyone pay the same?

Yes, everyone pays the same price of £15.50 per person, per month, regardless of
age or pre-existing conditions.

Do you accept pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, everyone is accepted.

All UK residents can join Benenden Health regardless of their medical history.

Will there be any excesses to pay to access services?

No, there's no excess to pay.

But you'll be responsible for funding any costs incurred over £2,500 for a
diagnosis.

Do you provide access to diagnosis and treatment?

Yes, when there's a wait above our current NHS wait time threshold.

Medical Diagnostics

You can request private Medical Diagnosis at one of the hospitals in our
diagnostic network for symptoms for which you have been referred by a qualified
NHS practitioner.

Once authorised, we can support your diagnostic costs up to £2,500.

Surgical Treatment

You can also request assistance for Surgical Treatment when you're eligible, at
one of our hospitals in our treatment network.

Please make sure you've checked our approved procedure list first. 

Do you have any limits and exclusions?

Yes, there are limits and exclusions which apply to membership. Examples of
medical treatment not on our approved procedures list are joint replacements,
and brain, heart and cancer treatment.

Our healthcare services are provided on a discretionary basis and are subject to
the resources we have available.

Some cases can be dependent on a referral by a qualified NHS practitioner, NHS
wait times and the type of treatment required. 

Is Benenden Healthcare private health insurance?

No, our services are offered on a discretionary basis. This is so we can manage
our funds and the services we provide carefully to ensure that we can continue
to offer every member one affordable price, regardless of age and pre-existing
medical conditions.

Covid-19 service update

Services continue to be available across the UK but there maybe localised
restrictions in place, your healthcare provider will keep you informed.

This may result in delays when accessing appointments.

HOW BENENDEN HEALTH WORKS

We're not for profit and proud if it. So no shareholders, we put the needs of
our members at the heart of everything we do.

OUR DISCRETIONARY MODEL

We work on a discretionary basis, which means that the Board decides which
services are provided and what's available in each service. The exception is for
tuberculosis treatment, which we offer on an insured basis.

We operate according to our rulebook, which contains the Benenden Healthcare
Society Limited's memorandum and rules.
