Back in the year 250 or so, the city developers carved out caves in the cliffside, then started digging down. More than half of the undercity is made up of underground caverns. There’s a semi-underground lake beside the main level of Axia. The majority of the undercity doesn’t get natural light, and relies on Celadite-powered fluorescents to light the day. Most of the buildings are made out of stone or steel; neon signs flash just about everywhere you look. Lots of places are open 24/7 – that’s the benefit to no sunrises and sets. It’s mostly the poor who work here, people with families or some other sort of obligation that means they need a steady income. Steady enough to justify the chemicals in your lungs and the dangerous working conditions – people who work in the Lung don’t tend to last long. pedestrian at best [p] [tw] Apr 24 2024, 09:34 AM Updated by Raphael Downtown Grimeia Downtown Grimeia started in the very back corners of the cliffside, hidden away in shadow. There’re a lot of stores tucked just under ground level – and a lot of towers spanning near-up to the roof of the cliff, with steel-reinforced bridges stretching across from spire to spire. Everything is cast in the greens of oxidized copper and gray-blacks of tarnished steel; you’ll see a lot of neon blue, too, from people riding by on their magitech transports. Illuni burrowed out into the lake and formed a massive, magical dome. The lower levels of Grimeia proper transition seamlessly to an underwater city. The whole thing rests on what used to be the bottom of the lakebed, secured by the magic membrane on the sides and overhead. Place is full of bars, gambling halls, and entertainment rooms. Word around the block goes that the Syndicate favors setting up their private clubs here. Twilight in Grimeia Today at 04:10 pm Updated by Casper Ly Red Light District The red light district’s physically underneath Downtown Grimeia. There’re lifts that can take you down in half a minute, but they’re constantly getting stuck in the shitty tunnel shafts, so most people just take the winding inclines down. The district’s built out of the caverns the old Axians built when they were developing the city a couple years ago. Whole place is underground – the only lighting is neon light strips running across the paths, ads, and doorways. amen. Today at 08:36 am Updated by Matthieu Yeong Residential Area The residential area is made up of run-down, shit-tier apartment complexes owned by Licyran landlords. Lately, rent keeps rising, but housing conditions only worsen with crime and the Cybernetic Plague. Thanks to the greenhouses filtering the air out of the mines, the atmosphere’s breathable, if dank and humid.
