LICYRA

Bustling and ever alive, Licyra is built along the cliffside that hangs above
Grimeia, markets and housing districts built on tier-like shelves along the
climbing slope in a haphazard sprawl of civilization. The people are lively and
energetic; there is never a quiet moment in Licyra, with the voices and calls
and chaotic tracks of daily life creating a lovely sort of song to accompany the
magic that fills the air with electric anticipation. Life in Licyra is defined
as busy, constantly flowing with the people who reside here; Licyra is home to
innovation, creativity, and growth. This is what dreams are made of.

GRIMEIA

The monorail from Licyra to Grimeia comes trawling down the cliffside; there’s
no gate that marks the boundary between uppercity and under, but you know it
when you see it. Back in the year 250 or so, the city developers carved out
caves in the cliffside, then started digging down. More than half of the
undercity is made up of underground caverns. There’s a semi-underground lake
beside the main level of Axia. The majority of the undercity doesn’t get natural
light, and relies on Celadite-powered fluorescents to light the day. Most of the
buildings are made out of stone or steel; neon signs flash just about everywhere
you look. Lots of places are open 24/7 – that’s the benefit to no sunrises and
sets.

Most of the
buildings are made out of stone or steel; neon signs flash just about everywhere
you look. Lots of places are open 24/7 – that’s the benefit to no sunrises and
sets.

The Strip

The main street of Licyra, now known colloquially as the Strip, houses all of
the essentials to life and more. Mosaic and stone pavement lead to boutique
shops along either side of the street, urban vegetation and floral arrangements
turning the world to color. The Strip is iconic for each unique and individual
storefront and its parks, spaces for all sorts to congregate for weekend markets
and midday picnics.

The Zenith

Named for both its physical and figurative characteristics, the Zenith is the
City Hall where all of the important stuff goes down. You’ll know you’ve reached
the Zenith when you see towering arcades and the central building– the Imperium
Chambers. The sidewalks are lined with rows and rows of flowers in every color,
with pathways of stone and tile and glittering tesserae mosaics of the goddesses
on building faces.

Altumean College

Sunlight filters in through the banks of tall windows and bathes this place in
gold. An enormous tree that takes residence in the central atrium of the
College. Notable locations to the College are: the library filled floor to
impossibly high ceiling with every book known to Axia, the innumerable studios
and classrooms, and the perfectly manicured courtyards where sport, festival,
and study take life in the College. Good luck not getting lost, though!

The District

Better known as the District. Down the winding pathways of alleyways, you’ll be
led straight into the life and blood of the city: the entertainment district.
The geography gives Enforcers a difficult go about their business. Illicit
trade, illegal weapons dealership– these are the things you’ll find behind all
of the glamor of magitech displays and idol shows. All roads lead to the
District, or so they say.

The Crescent

When the day’s over, Licyrans will find themselves back in the Residential
District, better known as the Crescent. Radially planned with a large park
central to both halves of the crescent-shape, the residential district is
divided into two halves. They are joined by walkways and brooks that connect the
waterways. There are a few stores nearby for convenience, smaller family-owned
businesses. The park is typically occupied by teenagers off from class and some
elderly folks on their evening walks.

Downtown Grimeia

Downtown Grimeia started in the very back corners of the cliffside, hidden away
in shadow. There’re a lot of stores tucked just under ground level – and a lot
of towers spanning near-up to the roof of the cliff, with steel-reinforced
bridges stretching across from spire to spire. Everything is cast in the greens
of oxidized copper and gray-blacks of tarnished steel; you’ll see a lot of neon
blue, too, from people riding by on their magitech transports.

Next to the cliffside that Axia’s built out of is a giant lake. Illuni burrowed
out into the lake and formed a massive, magical dome. The lower levels of
Grimeia proper transition seamlessly to an underwater city. The whole thing
rests on what used to be the bottom of the lakebed, secured by the magic
membrane on the sides and overhead. Place is full of bars, gambling halls, and
entertainment rooms. Word around the block goes that the Syndicate favors
setting up their private clubs here.

Red Light District

The red light district’s physically underneath Downtown Grimeia. There’re lifts
that can take you down in half a minute, but they’re constantly getting stuck in
the shitty tunnel shafts, so most people just take the winding inclines down.
The district’s built out of the caverns the old Axians built when they were
developing the city a couple years ago. Whole place is underground – the only
lighting is neon light strips running across the paths, ads, and doorways.

Residential Area

The residential area is made up of run-down, shit-tier apartment complexes owned
by Licyran landlords. Lately, rent keeps rising, but housing conditions only
worsen with crime and the Cybernetic Plague. Thanks to the greenhouses filtering
the air out of the mines, the atmosphere’s breathable, if dank and humid.
Artificial lighting dots the street lights, but it’s dark on top floors – plus,
bat-type beasts lurk around there. The Syndicate estates fare better. They're
home to new (blood) money.

Underneath Downtown Grimeia, the Iron Lung is the city’s industrial district,
where Celadite is dug up from the pits of the earth and smog-breathed factories
pump out mass-produced goods. It’s mostly the poor who work here, people with
families or some other sort of obligation that means they need a steady income.
Steady enough to justify the chemicals in your lungs and the dangerous working
conditions – people who work in the Lung don’t tend to last long.

This is what dreams are made of.

worsen with crime and the Cybernetic Plague. Thanks to the greenhouses filtering

The Iron Lung

Underneath Downtown Grimeia, the Iron Lung is the city’s industrial district,
where Celadite is dug up from the pits of the earth and smog-breathed factories
pump out mass-produced goods. It’s mostly the poor who work here, people with
families or some other sort of obligation that means they need a steady income.
Steady enough to justify the chemicals in your lungs and the dangerous working
conditions – people who work in the Lung don’t tend to last long.

The Tide

Whole place is underground – the only
lighting is neon light strips running across the paths, ads, and doorways.

no gate that marks the boundary between uppercity and under, but you know it
when you see it.
Most of the
buildings are made out of stone or steel; neon signs flash just about everywhere
you look. Lots of places are open 24/7 – that’s the benefit to no sunrises and
sets.
