As summer begins to wind down and the days start to cool, it's the perfect time
to start planning for fall baking. Whole grain rye flour, with its rich, earthy
flavor and hearty texture, is an ideal ingredient to transition your kitchen
from summer's light dishes to the warmth and comfort of autumn! Rye flour, known
for its unique and robust flavor profile, lends a slightly tangy and earthy
taste, making it a key ingredient in classic varieties like pumpernickel and
sourdough rye. Coarse rye flour, in particular, retains more of the bran and
germ of the rye grain, providing a gritty and coarse texture that adds a rustic
and hearty quality to baked goods. Due to its lower gluten content compared to
wheat flour, rye flour results in denser and heavier bread, a distinctive
characteristic of many traditional rye bread types. Additionally, rye flour can
be used to make pretzels, cookies, cakes, biscuits, & so much more!
