On this day 4 years ago I asked this amazing woman to be my girlfriend... and
just a year after on the same day I asked her a much bigger question. We’ve
gotten to travel and see a bunch of different parts of the world. but the most
important journey has always been the one that started 4 years ago.. I must have
made a pretty good case for myself for her to say yes. Every bit of the journey
since has not only made me more appreciative of the world around me. But also
just more appreciative for her as a person. For who she chooses to be. ln the
midst of everything around us, it's easy to be swayed one way or another. Lauren
has remained anchored in patience and grace. I'm not sure if it's 100 percent
her or a bit of a gift of God's divinity. Either way I am incredibly blessed by
it. We've come a long way so far but we're only a few short chapters in a much
bigger story. When we choose marriage, we're saying yes to forever.. But we're
really saying yes to is.. today and tomorrow. And we have to keep saying yes
with every sunrise and sunset. Forever doesn't matter so much if we're not
invested in the moment we’re in. I'm working on showing up more in each day.

Friday was a scary and sad day for Little Rock.. As what started as severe storm
became a tornado in a very short period, and what was a scary idea became a
terrifying and surreal reality in a matter of minutes. I was standing outside my
office on Kavanaugh watching the storm moving through town, thinking "this will
blow over like it always does." Little time passed what I thought were humorous
remarks became incredibly insensitive and almost insultingly unserious, as I
received a text from my sister stating "It just hit our neighbors house.. it's
gone.. it's a miracle we survived" And my other sister's text.. "we're all
huddled up in the closet, it's blowing over us right now" I think many of us
found ourselves in this situation. Is this really happening?!? My heart is
heavy. Saddened and overwhelmed with the crisis our community is in. Thankfully
most all of my friends and family escaped harm and were not hurt. We are the
lucky ones. Why did it happen to them and not us? I'm glad it didn't happen to
us, but... Survivor's guilt is real. And thankfully the number of casualties is
low but still. Somebody's else Facebook post said "How come it takes tragedy for
people to come together," and while I understand the sentiment, I would argue,
is there not a better time to see our community stand together. While the storm
and its devastation saddens me tremendously.. I am encouraged more so by the
bravery, generosity, and love that our city is giving to each other. —continued
