In mid-March 2024, the University of Oregon Chinese Flagship Program, alongside
four other Chinese Flagship programs, received notification from the National
Security Education Program regarding the discontinuation of operational funding
for the 2024-28 grant cycle. Consequently, after nearly 20 years of operation,
the program will cease providing programming and will not accept any new
applications after May 31, 2024. Nevertheless, the UO Chinese Flagship Banzhang
student leadership committee will persist as an Associate Students of the
University of Oregon (ASUO) club, actively engaging with the Chinese learning
community across all levels and welcoming students seeking cultural immersion
opportunities.




UNIVERSITY OF OREGON FLAGSHIP

The University of Oregon Chinese Flagship Program is a part of The Language
Flagship, a national effort to change the way Americans learn languages through
curricular innovation and intensive study abroad.

Since 2005, the University of Oregon Chinese Flagship Program has provided
students with holistic academic advising and scholarship support to develop
professional-level proficiency in Chinese while studying any academic major of
their choice. Through our program, students become global professionals ready to
change the world.



The program is housed in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literature
(EALL). In order to fully support our students, we work closely with other
offices and centers on campus including GEO Division of Global Engagement, the
Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, UO Housing, and UO Academic Advising.




THE LANGUAGE FLAGSHIP

The Language Flagship seeks to graduate students who will take their place among
the next generation of global professionals, commanding a superior level of
proficiency in languages critical to American competitiveness and security.
Language Flagship offers programs in Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian,
Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu. 

The Oregon Flagship Program is sponsored by The Language Flagship, a
public/private partnership sponsored by the National Security Education Program
(NSEP) of the Department of Defense and administered by the Institute of
International Education (IIE).

The contents of this website do not necessarily reflect the position or policy
of the Government or IIE and no official Government or IIE endorsement should be
inferred.
