USER AGREEMENT

This User Agreement has been updated on and is valid from May 21, 2022.

Discussions.app is a platform that fosters community building and communication
and is on the vanguard of next generation decentralized social networks. While
the goal of discussions is to provide a space for censorship resistant
communication, we have a few necessary rules.

Please read these terms of use (collectively with Privacy Policy and Cookies
Policy referred to as “ User Agreement ”) as this User Agreement forms a binding
agreement between you (User) and The Novusphere Foundation, a nonprofit
established in the Republic of Mauritius. You should read the User Agreement
carefully before using our website https://discussions.app/ mobile apps,
open-source software, other online products, or utilizing services, features, or
content available through our Platform (together referred to as “ Services ”).
The Platform is not a mass media. This User Agreement is designed to be clear
and concise, if clarification is necessary please reach out to us through one of
our official communication channels listed on Discussions.app.

SUMMARY OF THE USER AGREEMENT

Most people don’t read these user agreements. They are often long, boring and
written to be intentionally vague and with enough opaqueness to provide legal
cover. We are interested in new paradigms and will attempt to buck the trend in
the following document.

This User Agreement forms a binding contract between you and us. This short
summary provides an overview of all the important points. It is not a substitute
for the entire agreement and it alone does not represent a binding contract, but
is instead provided to give you a quick overview of what our intentions are with
this broader document. Please read the whole User Agreement.

Using the service and establishing a UnifiedID means you agree to this
agreement, and all other policies set forth by The Novusphere Foundation. You
can’t use this service if you aren’t old enough to legally consent to do so and
accept this legally binding contract. You MUST KEEP YOUR UNIFIEDID SECRET AND
SAFE, we can’t recover it for you so do what you need to do to keep it safe and
be able to recover it on your own. Our platform is a gateway to the EOS
blockchain and provides a means to embed and display user generated content.
Users are responsible for the content they embed, and are responsible to
moderate based on their individual needs. We may need to change this agreement
in the future, and that’s ok - we will try to keep you informed of changes. You
are responsible for the content you post, and grant us a forever non exclusive
license.

Please #tag your NSFW content, content not tagged NSFW will be tagged by the
global moderation system. Users repeatedly posting NSFW content will be blocked
by the global moderation system. You are responsible for your own safety and
security. You acknowledge that this software might not always work as intended.
You won’t hold us liable for anything(within the limits of the law).

Acceptance

By using the Services and/or Creating your UnifiedID, you agree to this User
Agreement that includes terms and conditions contained in this document, the
Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy, and any rules produced by Discussions.app or
The Novusphere Foundation. If you do not agree, please stop using the Services
in any manner.

Eligibility

To use the Services, you must be old enough in the jurisdiction under which you
are subject to to take such action under the applicable laws and have all
necessary consents, and not be prohibited by such laws from using the Services.

Your UnifiedID

To post, reply, or fully interact with discussions.app you must establish a
UnifiedID and are solely responsible for the safety and security of the 12 word
brain key that provides access to your account. The Novusphere Foundation nor
anyone associated with discussions.app has access to your UnifiedID 12-word seed
phrase and will never ask you for such information. You agree to keep your
UnifiedID secure and confidential. We do not store information on our users, or
on their associated UnifiedIDs.

Our Services

Our Platform displays what is stored on the TELOS blockchain, and is a client
that allows users to store data and carry out other interactions with the TELOS
blockchain, access and transfer various Tokens. TELOS is a third-party platform
based on the distributed ledger technology (blockchain) using delegated proof of
stake consensus mechanism. For more information regarding the TELOS blockchain,

How the Platform is Managed

Discussions.app and the UnifiedID login system simplifies the process for
interaction with blockchain technology. As a project focused on open source
decentralized technology, the Novusphere Foundation is committed to providing
advanced users a full decentralized experience, while making certain concessions
for ease of use which may introduce elements of centralization. For example
users may choose to forgo the default endpoints, relays and settings provided by
the Discussions.app and still interact with the broader Novusphere ecosystem.
Most users will be completely content to use the defaults, but having the option
to forge their own path ensures accountability on the part of the Novusphere
Foundation. This approach maintains a high degree of decentralization and
community control while still providing relative ease of use. Posting to the
blockchain can’t be limited by the Novupshere as long as the software exists.
The permanence of the blockchain means that the Novusphere Foundation cannot
remove content but merely hide it from its front end implementation through
default moderation. This means that content distributed on the Platform by you
is not controlled directly or indirectly by The Novusphere Foundation or
discussions.app.

To manage the Platform, we provide default moderation, that is designed to
comply with US law and remove blatant spam, users are free to choose any
moderator they wish.

Modifying these User Agreement

Though we act only as a gateway to blockchain technology, The Novusphere
Foundation may reserve the right to modify the Services to a certain extent at
any time and in any format. We may also change this User Agreement and we will
try to post explanations of all major changes to the Platform
(Discussions.app/tag/useragreement) however, you must periodically check the
terms of this User Agreement to stay up to date with changes.

Ownership of and License to Content

You retain ownership, responsibility, and rights to any content you create or
own on the Platform or through the Services. The content you provide when using
the Services must be lawful, accurate and complete and you are solely
responsible for ensuring this. All users of the platform retain the right to
moderate content for any reason, no user should have any expectation to be heard
by any other user. You grant discussions.app a world-wide, non-exclusive,
royalty-free license (with the right to sublicense) to make your content
available to the rest of the world and to let other users do the same forever.
We are not obliged to host all content you store on the EOS Blockchain via our
gateway. If you don’t understand distributed ledger technology and you do not
feel comfortable using it, please, do not use our Services.

NSFW Content

Discussions.app is designed to maximize freedom and provide users with
personalized control over the content they are exposed to. Diverse interests are
a natural consequence of the diverse nature of the world. There is a possibility
that the Platform may discuss Content which could be considered
Not-Safe-For-Work (“ NSFW Content ”), namely, nudity, pornography, profanity,
controversial political news, drugs, etc., which may be inappropriate, illegal
or which breaches the legal rights of another person or entity vary from country
to country.

“NSFW” tag should be applied to Content and must be provided by the User under
his or her sole supervision and responsibility. NSFW content will not be
displayed clearly by default. Moderators may tag content as NSFW which will blur
content

Discussions.app takes no responsibility for Users posting any NSFW Content or
for users failing to tag content appropriately. However, when requested, we will
do our best to apply default moderation to such content from the Platform to
comply with applicable law.

Safety

Discussions.app and The Novupshere Foundation are not responsible for your
actions in connection with the Services. Security of your UnifiedID is your
responsibility. Access to accounts cannot be recovered, modified or transferred
by The Novusphere Foundation, discussions.app or any of their employees,
affiliates or partners. Keep your 12 word seed secret, and keep it safe!

The Services are provided “as is”, and Discussions.app disclaims legal liability
for the quality, safety, or reliability of the Services. We cannot guarantee
that the Platform will always work or that the Services will always be flawless.
Open source projects rely on the community for bug reporting and improvement, we
will always attempt to be transparent regarding issues involving our code. The
source code for our software is freely available and can be publicly audited at
anytime.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, The Novusphere Foundation limits legal
liability for certain types of damages for claims relating to your use of the
Services, the conduct of other users and unauthorized access or use of your
account or content. Certain actions involve executing smart contracts and it is
important that users read and understand any actions before confirmation of such
contracts.

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" BASIS, AND NO WARRANTY, EITHER EXPRESS OR

I must have the shittiest business acumen with regards to making money from
games ever because I can't work out how these companies are making money by
giving away their best titles ( At least in my view ) on epic games for free yet
they keep doing it.

I must have grabbed at least £200 worth of games that I've had even a slightest
interest in and it's not going to make me more interested in purchasing their
DLC ( Which I suspect is part of why they're doing it, as an advertisement model
which is fair ) or their newer titles which are going to be overpriced and often
more broken than their older counterparts with only slightly better graphics in
a lot of cases rather than anything truly mind blowing.

The moment any kind of real indie competition comes along that's determined to
take them down a peg by going after one of their flagship titles these guys are
done.

Drugs targeting the mechanisms of illness in the elderly could be here within a
decade

For all the advances in medical technology humans have developed, there is one
thing it hasn't been able to do: stop us from getting old.

We've managed to extend the human lifetime dramatically in the last couple of
centuries, greatly diminishing infant and child mortality and pushing back on
disease with antibiotics and vaccines.

But the general trajectory of life endures: once we get into the last quarter of
our lives, our health gradually declines.

That may soon change, as researchers focus on treating the diseases and
conditions that plague us as we get older. It's not impossible that we might
soon see medicines that greatly improve and maintain our health and independence
as we head into our golden years.

There are "genetic, biochemical, molecular biological mechanisms that occur as
we age and that actually drive the onset and progression of most of the changes
that we think about," said Matt Kaeberlein, a professor of laboratory medicine
and pathology at the University of Washington. Andrew Steele, a biologist and
the author of Ageless: The new science of getting older without getting old,
agreed. "Until now, we've been treating medicine in this very unsystematic way.
In a sense, we've been picking off the endpoints of aging, things like cancer
and heart disease, without actually addressing the fundamental underlying causes
that are resulting in those diseases. So what we could do by understanding these
hallmarks, is potentially come up with treatments to intervene in them directly.
And that means preventative treatments, treatments can go in earlier and stop
people getting ill in the first place."

What all this means in a big sense, is that we stop talking about human
lifespan—the length of time a person is simply alive, between birth and
death—and start focusing more on health span, or the period of our lives where
we are healthy, independent and strong.

Kaeberlein has isolated a number of aging "hallmarks" that are good indicators
of our overall health as we age—things like chronic inflammation, cellular
senescence (where cells stop dividing) and other issues. The good news, he said,
is that these are all things that are possible to address therapeutically.

So rather than treating aging as a single, inevitable change in our bodies, it's
more like a series of processes brought about by disease. If those processes can
be prevented, or even reversed, then the health span of people could
dramatically increase, along with being able to live considerably longer.

And the idea of stopping some of these processes isn't science fiction, Steele
told Spark host Nora Young.

There are already treatments for cellular senescence, he said, drugs that target
these redundant cells and remove them, along with the toxic cocktail of
molecules that accompany them and contribute to heart disease and cancer.

Using these treatments on mice essentially made the mice "biologically younger,"
he said. "It's not as though they were hobbling along in a sort of geriatric
state, which has somehow been extended by this anti-aging treatment. What they
found is that the mice were healthier too. So they got less cancer, they got
less heart disease, they got fewer cataracts, they were less frail."

That's an important concept to get across, the scientists said. Most people,
when they think of increasing human lifetimes from, say, 80 to 120 years, assume
that this means we'll just be very old for a longer time, which doesn't hold a
lot of appeal. But if we could live to 120 and be healthy and active until
we're, say, 118, then that's a much more attractive proposition.

Besides using medicine and technology to increase human health span, it's also
vital that we rid ourselves of the bias against the elderly and ageism more
generally, said Becca Levy, a psychologist and epidemiologist at Yale
University, and the author of Breaking the Age Code: How your beliefs about
aging determine how long and well you live.

Our culture, particularly in North America, is saturated with ageism, she said,
whether it's billboards promoting expensive skin creams or merely disregard for
our elders.

Worse, as we age, we come to assume that those negative sentiments about being
old are true, leading to a measurable diminishment in health and quality of
life.

Levy pointed out that in Japan, whose residents typically live longer than
anywhere else on the planet, the elderly are treated like rock stars, and they
even have a national holiday to celebrate older people!

"Is it possible that the way that the culture is celebrating and integrating
older people, could that be a factor that's contributing to their longer
lifespan?" she said.

Kaeberlein and Steele concede there is often pushback to the idea of living
longer, with concerns about overpopulation and societal change. They agree this
is largely illogical.

"Let's say I had written a book on cancer research and how I think we're going
to cure leukemia in the next 20 years. Literally, nobody would write me an email
saying, 'Hi, Andrew, you know, this cancer research, aren't you really worried
about all these extra people who are going to be surviving cancer and cluttering
up the planet'?"

Moreover, the impact on global population wouldn't be nearly as dramatic as
people assume, Steele added.

Both are optimistic that there are likely to be medications available to target
the causes of disease and dysfunction in the elderly appearing within the next
decade or so.

The bigger ethical issue, Kaeberlein said, is making sure these medicines are
available for everybody, and not just the wealthy.

Steele agreed: "The reason that you invest in this research, the reason you do
this research, is you want to prevent cancer, you want to prevent dementia, you
want to prevent all of these horrible diseases, and actually living longer is
going to be a side effect, as it has been from all kinds of improvements in
human life that we've already talked about over the last 200 years."

Entertainment industry news website Deadline reported on Monday that Yasutaka
Tsutsui's Paprika novel is inspiring a live-action series at Amazon Studios and
Hivemind.

Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey, Dead Pigs) will be the executive producer and
director. Yan's producing partner and Rewild's Ash Sarohia will also executive
produce, along with Masi Oka and Hivemind's Jason F. Brown.

Paprika involves the theft of a machine that can enter people's dreams. With the
thief having the potential to cause serious psychological damage, Dr. Atsuko
Chiba enters the dream world to stop the culprit.

Tsutsui debuted the novel in 1993.

The original novel inspired an anime film (pictured right) by the late Satoshi
Kon in 2006.

The Animator Supporters non-profit organization has produced a crowdfunded music
video, which aims to set a new standard for industry conditions by transparently
paying its animation talent higher than average wages. Vocalist Caleb Hyles
posted the "Back To You" music video on his YouTube channel on Sunday.

According to the organization's crowdfunding page, the animators who worked on
the video were paid "180 dollars per keyframe which is 2-4 times more than the
industry standard."

The organization is now crowdfunding for a second music video, which will
feature voice actress and singer Aya Hirano as the vocalist. The organization
plans to produce at least one new short animation per year and scale up the
payment structure to a fixed salary rather than by piece rate. This new campaign
is called "The New Anime Making System Project Phase 2."

Kenichi Kutsuna (Hori-san to Miyamura-kun (OAV) directed, storyboarded, designed
the characters, and edited the first music video. Mason
Lieberman (RWBY, Sarazanmai) directed, produced, and wrote the music. Kevin
Penkin (Made in Abyss, The Rising of The Shield Hero) was the orchestrator and
co-arranger for the musical staff.

Now I remembered why I never finished Tiberium Sun, finished all the other C&C
games but I don't think it quite clicked for me until I tried playing in earnest
as an adult. Some of the missions especially the 'stealth' ones are just flat
out broken, you give the AI airstrikes for example in a game with no bases until
the middle of the mission you're on, the AI indiscriminately kills all troops.

Just came across one mission where you have to control two armies at once either
side of a river, okay, well it turns out the river is being patrolled by a
patrol boat so that's a no go. I thought I could be a smart arse and just tuck
my troops away from the river until I've dealt with the bigger problem up north.
However the game had other plans and decided to give itself airstrikes so it
took out all of my troops on the other side.

So even though I had tons of troops and had pretty much won, wiped out the base
and everything, the game was broken. There was no way to get across the river
because the troops they had been killed due to the airstrike.

If the developers had any sense, at the point of the troops on the other side of
the river being killed they would have made the mission fail, but no, I had to
wait until I had wiped out the GDI base for that to happen, that's a broken
mission.

Entertainment industry news website Deadline reported on Monday
that PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions are developing a film
based on Gravity Rush (Gravity Daze in Japan) game. Anna Mastro is directing the
film, and Emily Jerome is writing the script. There are no details on the film's
presentation or producer.

Japan Studio and Sony Computer Entertainment's original 2012 Gravity
Rush PlayStation Vita game launched in Japan in February 2012 and in the West in
June 2012.

A remastered PlayStation 4 version of the game shipped in Japan in December 2015
and in the West in February 2016.

The sequel game Gravity Rush 2 (Gravity Daze 2) shipped for PS4 in 2018.

The game received a prequel "special animation" by Khara, the studio behind the
new Evangelion films. Gravity Rush: The Animation - Overture bridges the gap
between the original Gravity Rush and the sequel. The sequel game
also inspired a manga.

Home video sales for anime were 11.82 billion yen, 54.6% down from 2021

The Japan Video Software Association (JVA) released last week the Blu-ray Disc
and DVD sales and shipment statistics in Japan for the first half of 2022. The
home video sales of Japanese animation for general audiences (as opposed to
children only) during this period were 11.82 billion yen (about US$86 million),
a significant decrease of 54.6% from the previous year.

For comparison, sales for the first half of 2021 were about 26.08 billion yen
(about US$190 million), which was a significant increase over the 18.67 billion
yen (about US$136 million) during the same period in 2020.

Home video sales of Japanese animation for children were 403 million yen (about
US$2.93 million), a decrease of 46.4% from the previous year. Sales to rental
stores of Japanese animation for general audiences were 904 million yen (about
US$11 million), down 27.9% from 2021.

The numbers may be attributed to the long-term decline in sales of packaged
products and the lower consumption rate due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In
addition, last year's numbers were largely due to the record sales of the Demon
Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train anime film.

The total sales for home video software in Japan were 55.82 billion yen (about
US$406 million), down 19.7% from the previous year. Of this number, Blu-ray
Discs accounted for 32.93 billion yen (about US$239 million), and DVDs accounted
for 22.89 billion yen (about US$166 million).

Modeling 5 to 10 GWh electrified containerships, researchers find that 40% of
routes today could be electrified in an economically viable manner, before
considering environmental costs.

Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory have released a study which examines “the technical outlook,
economic feasibility, and environmental impact of battery-electric
containerships.”

Breaking from previous studies, the researchers have classified the volume of
space housing the batteries as an opportunity cost, rather than a fixed
technical constraint. After modeling a wide variety of containership sizes, as
well as 13 major world trade routes, the research suggests that more than 40% of
the world’s fleet of containerships could be electrified “cost-effectively and
with current technology,” by the end of this decade.

TCP (total cost of propulsion) by ship type, route length, current (a) and
future (b) battery pricing:

In graph ‘a’, (above left), the authors show the current viability of
containership electrification, based on ship size and length of voyage. The gray
and white areas of the graphs represent the shipping routes where the
electrification of containerships would immediately lower shipping costs.

Using only technology available for purchase today, nearly all ships with routes
shorter than 2,000 kilometers are economically advantageous, and ships with
routes as long as 3,000km are economically viable.

Graph ‘b’, (above right), projects that price reductions to “near future“
battery technology are expected to roughly double the economic viability and
range of electrified containerships.

Crucially, this research demonstrates that electrified containerships have an
economic advantage over the internal combustion engine (ICE), even when the
costs of environmental and health damages are excluded.

The differences in TCP are contrasted in graph ‘a’ (ICE) vs graph ‘b’
(electrified):

The authors present estimates of air pollution damages and the social cost of
carbon for both ICE, (above left), versus electrified containerships, (above
right). The gray bars in the chart above show that ICE containerships cause
damages equal to or greater than three times the ship’s costs.

An electrified containership will also cause some environmental damage, however,
the estimates of electrified ship’s air pollution, and the social cost of
carbon, are only 1/12th that of an ICE ship.

In a future in which the costs of large ICE containerships will continue rising,
as electrified containerships become increasingly cost effective, the authors
posit that ICE ships (below, left) will be grossly more expensive than
electrified containerships (below, right).

The authors show that at current battery prices, the electrification of trade
routes less than 1,500 km is economical, and has minimal impact to ship carrying
capacity. And when the authors include environmental costs, the economical range
skyrockets to 5,000 km.

A 5,000 km containership would require approximately 6.5 GWh of LFP batteries.

The average cost of lithium-ion batteries has plummeted 89% since 2010, and is
expected to reach $50 per kWh in the near future. Assuming a battery cost of
$100 per kWh, the TCP for a battery-electric containership is already lower than
that of an ICE equivalent, for routes less than 1,000km. And when battery prices
reach $50 per kWh, which is predicted for the near future, electrified ships
will be cost-effective on routes as long as 5,000km.

I FINALLY FINISHED THE KONOSUBA LIGHT NOVELS!

"What a long, strange journey it's been" the perfect words on the backside of
the book for the last volume.

The books have been really funny. Most people would probably nag that the jokes
get repetitive but for me there was always just enough different so that it
would not become bland. Many if not most of the best scenes are still to come
after the anime in the books. Especially the books 9,10 and 15 really have the
best scenes ever. But then again book 7 and 11-13/14 are partially really low
for the series. But i can't help to feel like the glorious "tax evasion" scene
was somewhere in those less good books so it's not all bad.

Luckily the last book is quite good but that may just be me because a long
series is finally at it's end. Or is it? because the author had to somewhat
force a good ending and even mentioned himself in the afterword just how many
story threads there are still unsolved. It feels a little disappointing like a
anime that doesn't have a real ending. The story was already headed in a very
good direction and he could have just let it end. I guess i have to just pretend
that the last few pages do not exist though the ending isn't that bad and it
even allowed for another of the very best jokes.

Comedy books are tough to recommend. Even in my own experience with the first 4
books which equal the two anime seasons i couldn't help but feel like the book
was inferior even with the additional scenes and everything a book not limited
by runtime can offer. That changed with the fifth book which equals the movie
that i hadn't seen back then. How good the books are is mostly dependent on how
much you can "engage" in the humor. Despite the imperfect ending and the few a
little too long lasting lows i can still really recommend this series.

like the most obvious form of attack to me because that's where they make the

I wish there was more anime that involved technological curb stomping in a
fantasy setting, I loved GATE, I thought that was a pretty underrated anime.
It's where the JSDF actually invades through a gate to a fantasy world as a
result of being raided by this roman style era empire and it's about as
ridiculous as you'd expect. The problem is it had some pretty good quality
animation and art so these days they probably wouldn't touch a project like that
unless they're planning a season 2. One of the reasons is because it's a nice
spin on the Isekai genre where instead of people wowing over magic etc. (
Although there is a bit of that ) It's mostly the fantasy world being amazed at
all the vehicles and guns.

I don't understand why given the way we have access to such amazing software
like Blender and Krita now that the arts aren't way more of a thing these days
despite the absolute catastrophe that is our education system. Maybe it's just
me, but I find things like animation really good fun even though it's grindy at
times, seeing the results play out is mind blowing. for me kind of like with
programming. One thing I want to do as part of my brand is promote open source
software more so people realise these kinds of fields aren't just for university
students and professionals with software licenses anymore.
