I’m 22 and pregnant. I have a year left of college and I have a job. My parents
keep telling me they are going to have to take care of the baby and they called
me selfish. How do I explain to them that they don’t have to fix my problems?

Whose being selfish? You’re a grown adult and can make your decisions.

When we told my MIL I was pregnant, 1992, the first things out of her mouth was
“Are you sure you can afford it?”

We both had good jobs. We had 2 vehicles, 1 as paid for the other WE made
payments on. We paid our rent and our portion of the bills. Portion?

We had a roommate, my SIL and her daughter (every other week.) MIL paid her rent
and portions of the bills. She also bought her her SUV. She didn’t work. She did
get to the gym for 3–4 hours a day. MIL didn’t think SIL should get a job for
the (every other) week she had her daughter.

She was going through a NASTY divorce. Basically, her in-laws wanted her
daughter as they raised 2 sons (very poorly BTW), they wanted to spoil her
rotten. MIL paid all of legal bills too, well over $100K, WELL over. They were
married about 2 years, divorce took 3–4 years.

So, yea, what said was hurtful. She supported SIL when she was pregnant with a
drug dealing husband and horrid In-Laws she lived with. She was beaten. she was
at our wedding, 1990 with a black eye.

There’s so much more but that’s the gist.

EDIT: This happened in 1992. I was 26 & hubby was 25. NOBODY supported us.
Raised a happy man.
