Meridian Business Support has partnered T Clarke Leeds since 2011, supplying
Mechanical & Electrical staff along with White Collar Professionals. We receive
a good service from Meridian, with the supply of quality resource and candidates
with regular feedback given to our enquiries. Issues being dealt with in a
timely manner and their consultants have a good understanding of the industry.
Whilst we have utilised the Meridian branch network through out the UK, we still
operate via one point of contact through Ben Spence, this ensures the level of
service expected is maintained. I have no hesitation in recommending Meridian
Business Support to clients wishing to work with a reliable labour provider.

Simon Marson, Senior Project Engineer

Meridian has been a life line of support to Sussex Innovation over the past
year. We had irregular and frequent needs and were able to rely on very able
flexible staff coming through at very short notice. The management are engaged
and on the ball and really got to know our needs during a tough period. The
whole process ended with us recruiting a fantastic temp on a permanent basis. We
would recommend Meridian in Croydon to others.

Saffron Saunders, Centre Manager

We have worked with Meridian’s Newcastle under Lyme branch for four years and
have always found them to be very knowledgeable about both our market and our
business. They are always very helpful and willing to assist where they can and
are polite and friendly at all times. Meridian consistently keep in contact to
make sure everything is going well and I would not hesitate to recommend them to
anyone considering working with them

Helen Podmore, Community Service Manager

We use Meridian primarily for temporary and additional staffing of our delivery
drivers. Meridian can provide efficient and reliable staff, at short notice to
fulfil this requirement. This is an area of extreme importance to us as the
drivers come into direct contact with our customers and can provide the ‘lasting
impression’ at the end of our sales process. I am pleased to say that Meridian
and its drivers have not let us down yet and we will continue to use them

Nigel Slawson, Health & Safety and HR Manager

Meridian has supplied all disciplines of M&E staff to us for 5 years. I find
them to be very knowledgeable of our business and our requirements. They are
always honest, professional and reliable and I have been very happy with the
service they provide. Meridian are our go to agency when we need help quickly
and to a good standard.

Stephen Dearden, Director

I have worked with Meridian for around five years, they provide me with a
variety of M&E positions, including Senior Operations appointments, Project
Engineers, electricians, support staff, administration, full time, part time,
permanent and temporary. The service they offer is excellent, they listen to my
requirements and offer ideas and solutions to my problems, there is always
regular contact  and I find them to be reliable and honest. I would highly
recommend Joe Firth, he is an asset to your company and a valuable asset and
advocate for Meridian.  He keeps in touch with our company and is always there
to support our business as we grow.  He takes the time to understand the culture
of the company and has gone the extra mile in providing resources to aid our
business development. Joe is professional and knowledgeable in his field which
has now moved Meridian up to fist point of call on our preferred supplier list.

Rosalyn Wimpenny, Business Manager

May I take this opportunity to thank Dan Bell, Tony Burton, Rob Latimer and the
rest of the team at Meridian Business Support for their continued support with
temporary labour at Manchester Airport T2 Expansion project. The electrical
staff Meridian provide are to a high standard and prior to engagement we receive
candidate profiles containing an up to date CV, copies of their current grading
JIB / ECS Cards / IPAF / PASMA certification and previous job history. Meridian
provides a refreshing and honest approach to recruitment, which has helped us to
develop a good working relationship and we will continue to use their services
on T2 and other future projects.

NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2023

This week celebrates the 16th annual National Apprenticeship Week, recognising
and celebrating the achievements of apprentices across the country. Meridian
champions the development of all our team. From entry-level apprentices to our
Senior Leadership Team, all are actively encouraged to improve their knowledge
and skills, whether that if through internal or external courses, such as
apprenticeships. With this year’s theme for National Apprenticeship Week being
‘Skills for Life’, we wanted to share with you some words from people across our
business studying apprenticeships to upskill themselves and celebrate their
achievements. Dee Dee, our HR Advisor, is studying for her Senior HR Level 7
qualification following the completion of her Level 5 apprenticeship in Human
Resource Management in 2022. “I completed a two-year, Level 5 Apprenticeship in
Human Resource Management in July 2022. I am really glad I’ve chosen to do it as
an apprenticeship as I have not only learnt the theory, but I have also gained
practical on-the-job experience. I’ve enjoyed studying Level 5 so much that in
December 2022, I enrolled in a Level 7 apprenticeship. This consists of live
work-based projects allowing me to further expand my knowledge and gain valuable
work-based experience in strategic HR Management. To me, apprenticeships add so
much more value than studying at the local college or university as it allows me
to gain knowledge, skills and behaviours which enable me to do my job more
effectively!” Abbey Abbey is a long-standing member of the Meridian accounts
team, currently studying her AAT level 3. “I am currently studying AAT Level 3
Advanced Diploma in Accounting with The Apprentice Academy in Manchester.
Studying an apprenticeship rather than going to university has allowed me to get
the vital accounting qualifications I need whilst working on the job and gaining
experience. In my most recent level of AAT, I studied a variety of units such as
advanced bookkeeping, final accounts preparation, management accounting costing
and indirect tax. I have been able to implement this knowledge I have learnt
into my everyday role and understand the background behind what I am doing in my
job and how it relates to the bigger picture. Apprenticeships are such an
amazing opportunity offered by Meridian! Sophie Sophie is our Content Marketing
Executive and is currently studying for her Marketing Executive Level 4. “I am
in the midst of studying for my Marketing Executive Level 4 qualification with
Apprentify. The course has taught me so many valuable skills that I am able to
apply to my work at Meridian. In doing work-based studying, I am able to put my
skills into practice and develop them further to become a more knowledgeable
marketer. After completing my degree in 2019, studying for an apprenticeship has
given me the opportunity to build upon my prior knowledge whilst experiencing
the world of recruitment marketing, first-hand. I have gained so much in the 10
months of studying, none of which would have been possible without Meridian
offering such a wide variety of opportunities to help me develop in my career.”

REPORT ON JOBS - JANUARY 2023

In the first Report on Jobs of 2023, the RECand KPMG reported a notable decline
in permanent placements in December last year. With greater economic
uncertainty, businesses are struggling with low candidate numbers and pressure
on client budgets, therefore slowing down hiring activity through the end of
2022. Permanent placements have declined for the third consecutive month, and at
the fastest rate, whereas billings for temp staff increased, albeit only
slightly. Throughout December, the demand for workers lessened, with vacancies
increasing at the slowest rate since early 2021. However, due to the
ever-increasing cost of living crisis, starting salaries and temp wages have
both increased however, this was the softest pay increase in 20 months. Rates of
starting pay are increasing at a slower rate. Pay pressures softened towards the
end of 2022, but stayed strong in regard to historical data. Both starting
salaries and temp pay are at their lowest since April 2021. All higher pay rates
were linked to roles with higher competition for staff and the impact of the
cost-of-living crisis. All the monitored regions in England, noted lower levels
of permanent staff appointments, with the South of England seeing the highest
level of decline. However, the South did see the sharpest increase of temp
billings of all monitored regions. Demand for staff was higher across the
private sector in December than within the public sector, with the private
sector looking for higher amounts of temporary staff, whilst the slowest level
of demand was for permanent public sector recruits. Across the seven monitored
employment categories for permanent, healthcare roles saw the sharpest increase
in need for staff, whilst Construction saw the fastest drop in vacancies.
Temporary staff vacancies increased throughout all ten monitored categories in
December. Retail, Hotel & Catering and healthcare seeing the steepest rise in
demand. Executive and professional saw the slowest demand overall. Read the full
report from the REC and KMPG here.

REPORT ON JOBS - DECEMBER

In this month’s #ReportOnJobs from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation
(REC) and KMPG, the UK is seeing a struggle with candidate shortages due to
concerns about the current state of the economy. Permanent placements fell for
the second consecutive month, temp billings rose slightly, and all vacancies
grew at the softest pace for 21 months. Overall demand for staff grew at the
weakest rate since February 2021, with temporary vacancies expanding faster than
that of permanent roles. Candidate supply is seen to be stabilising; following
the softest drop since April 2021, it is still falling at a historically fast
rate. Pay pressures are easily slightly following a more delicate drop in staff
supplies. However, competition for workers and the rising cost of living is
continuing to increase the rate of starting salaries and temp wages. Although,
inflation rates continued to ease, hitting their lowest for 19 months. The most
recent increase in permanent starter pay was the lowest since April 2021, whilst
temp growth saw an 18-month low. Higher pay rates were linked to more
competitive roles and the increased cost of living. The overall supply of
workers continued to decrease throughout November at a much higher rate than the
average of the last 25 years. Less foreign workers heightened reluctance to
change roles due to the cost of living increases and changes to labour market
rulings are all contributing factors to the lack of candidate numbers. However,
the recent fall was the weakest for 18 months among permanent and temporary
workers. Three of the four English regions used within the survey saw lower
permanent staff appointments, with the fastest reduction recorded in London.
However, The Midlands were the only region to note a modest placement rise. The
highest level of increase was recorded in temp billings within the private
sector, with public sector placements seeing a marked decrease. Eight of the
measured ten categories noted an increased demand for staff, with
nursing/medical/care sectors leading the demand, whilst Construction remained
unchanged, and IT noted a slight reduction. CEO of the REC said ‘“This month’s
data emphasises that while employers are moderately more cautious in the face of
economic uncertainty, this is not yet a major slowdown in hiring. While
permanent recruitment activity has dropped from the very high levels of earlier
in the year, the pace of that drop has tempered this month. "In contrast,
temporary hiring has accelerated again in the run-up to Christmas. There are
clearly some seasonal factors at work here, with retail and healthcare
recruitment leading the way. But there may also be some switching to temporary
going on, as firms maintain flexibility ahead of next year. "As the economic
outlook weakens, we can expect to see falls from historic highs across our
measures, but it is notable that pay and vacancies are still growing, although
at a much lower rate. "A flatter period in the labour market is inevitable in
this current economic climate, but some major underlying factors, including
labour shortages and technological change, are supporting demand. The main way
to boost performance is to unlock growth by businesses putting their people
planning first, as a strategic way to enhance productivity. Government can help
through skills and immigration reform. Boosting growth is the only way to ensure
a prosperous country for all of us.” You can read the full report here.

REPORT ON JOBS - NOVEMBER

In this month’s Report on Jobs from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation
(REC), there has been a marked decline in permanent placements, the first
decline since February 2021. These statistics are following heightened
uncertainty around the current state of the economy, with the cost of living
continuing to rise. Due to this economic downturn, people are much more hesitant
to look for new roles or switch to anything different. The UK is continuing to
see a decline in candidate numbers, and due to the pressures of the cost of
living, businesses are starting to see increased pressure on salary expectations
and higher competition for staff. However, rates of inflation in salaries and
temp pay growth fell to an 18-month low. The demand for staff continued to grow
throughout October, with the total supply of candidates falling sharply once
again, however, the rate of vacancy growth slowed down for the sixth consecutive
month. Numbers of permanent staff fell across all monitored regions in England
during October, with London seeing the highest drop and the Midlands currently
seeing a decline in temp billings. Slower increases in the demand for staff were
shown across the public and private sectors. The weakest growth in vacancies was
for temporary roles within the public sector. Permanent staff vacancies are
continuing to grow throughout the UK, though at much weaker rates than in
October 2021. Nursing/Medical/Care roles topped the list with the need for
short-term staff growing, with retail placing at the bottom.Chief Executive of
the REC, Neil Carberry commented “The economic and political uncertainty of
September and October has caused employers to become more cautious in their
approach to hiring than during the frenzy of earlier in the year.
Decision-making timelines for permanent hires have been extended, for instance.
But vacancies and pay are still rising, temporary worker demand is high, and
permanent hiring has fallen for the first time in almost two years. Activity,
overall, is still well in advance of pre-pandemic levels. We will need to watch
how this story develops over months to come, but so far this data suggests
heightened employer caution, not a retreat from the market.”Read the full report

LABOUR MARKET TRACKER - NOVEMBER

In this month’s Labour Market Tracker from the Recruitment & Employment
Confederation (REC), new job adverts are at a high point, but in the face of
economic uncertainty, employers are struggling to fill the roles. There were
154,000 jobs posted throughout the end of October, 3.9% lower than that of
September and the previous week which saw 217,000 job posts. The number of
active job postings with between 1.4 and 1.5million active adverts since August.
There has been a marked increase in adverts from the education and childcare
sectors, with an increased need for the likes of school secretaries and
childminders. Due to the high increase in bar and waiting staff at this time of
year, saw a significant decline in job postings. The highest level of job
postings are found in the North West, with positive growth being in Blackpool
(9.3%), Lancaster & Wyre (2.1%) and East Cumbria (0.2%).According to John Gray,
Vice President of the REC “The number of new job postings in the week beginning
17th October was 70,000 fewer than the previous week, which may well be a
reflection of the general volatility and uncertainty we are seeing in
Westminster and the economy. This, combined with the lowest unemployment rate
over the past 20 years suggests that, even in this time of volatility and
instability, we are still seeing a very tight labour market.”

LABOUR MARKET TRACKER - OCTOBER

Looking back at the last month, there has been a marked fall in the posting of
new jobs, which hasn’t been seen to this extent since April of this year. There
were around 143,000 new jobs posted in the final week of September, similar to
that of April and 8.3% lower than the number of job ads throughout August. With
around 1.45million active job adverts across the UK, this is now at the lowest
point since the pandemic. However, there has been a marked increase in adverts
for jobs within the education sector including secondary school teachers,
secretaries and crossing patrollers. Chief Executive of the REC, Neil Carberry
stated, “Weekly jobs postings have returned to levels last seen in April this
year. Employer demand is still significant, but a cooling-off is no surprise.
With inflation high, and employers concerned about the economic picture, some
moderation in hiring from the sugar rush of the past year was
predictable.”Across the UK, the West Midlands saw the highest rate of growth in
job postings, closely followed by Southampton, West Cumbria, and Telford &
Wrekin. However, at the other end of the scale, Northern Ireland saw a
noticeable decrease in job postings, dropping by a rate of up to 16.2% on the
previous month.Read the full report here.

REPORT ON JOBS - SEPTEMBER

The latest report from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG
showed a further slowing down in recruiting across the UK. Permanent
appointments and temp billings saw a slow rate of growth, the weakest growth in
around 19 months with the uncertainty over the outlook of the economy and
limited staff availability.September saw hiring take a hit throughout the month,
with candidate shortages and a struggling economy seen as the two key impacts on
filling roles, with September seeing the weakest rise in both temp and perm
billings in 19 months. The increase in the cost of living is causing candidates
to be looking for roles that pay higher, with companies being unable to live up
to the expectation of a rise in salary. However, there is a strong demand for
staff, with many open job roles to be filled, but due to the candidate shortage
and the weaker economic climate, recruiters are finding the roles more difficult
to fill. The UK has seen a sustained slowdown in temp billings throughout
September, which has been a gradual slowing since February of this year.
Although this is seen as the average of this time of year, this was the most
notable slowing down in around 18 months. Recruiters have noticed this is due to
the weak economic climate and low candidate numbers.Permanent placements however
have seen a slight increase in September, but only a modest increase. However,
the candidate shortage across all sectors is making recruiters proceed with
caution in their outlook on hiring. The only part of the UK seeing a decrease in
perm placements is the South of England. Total vacancies have seen their softest
increase in 19 months. The increase in the need for workers is growing, but the
total amount of skilled vacancies is growing. The demand for temporary staff was
high within the private sector throughout September, whereas the public sector
was calling out for permanent staff. However, within both sectors, although
demand was high, the demand is slowing down.Staff availability is becoming an
issue as the overall supply to the UK has declined for the 19th successive
month. This decline has been driven further by the fall in permanent and
temporary staff numbers. Permanent staff are seeing more of a decline than
temporary, with the pace of this decline softening slightly for the first time
in around 18 months. A key factor in this is the current economic uncertainty,
with candidates being more hesitant to apply for roles at this current time.
These numbers are closely linked to that of a low unemployment rate and the
impact of Brexit. Companies are facing pay pressures at this time, with temp
wage inflation hitting a 15-month low point. Although wages are still increasing
slightly to match with the rising cost of living in the UK. However, in terms of
permanent staff, pay is still rising at a soft rate, with starting salaries
increasing for the 19th consecutive month. If you would like to read the full

TEAM MERIDIAN CLIMBED SNOWDON FOR LEONARD CHESHIRE

On Saturday 24th September, a number of our team, including their friends and
family climbed Snowdon to raise money for our charity partner, Leonard Cheshire.
The team completed the 9-mile walk in just short of 6 hours, tackling all forms
of weather on the way up and down! Our team raised £385 for their climb, with
all the donations going to Leonard Cheshire. We have worked alongside Leonard
Cheshire for many years now, raising money for them at our annual conferences
and charity events and in turn, have raised we have raised over £17,000 in
support of their hard work. We were introduced to Leonard Cheshire’s Change 100
programme back in 2020, a programme of summer internships that aims to unlock
the potential of young people with disabilities. For Meridian, this involved
placing an intern within our team for 100 days and teaching them about the world
of work. Raising money for Leonard Cheshire enables them to keep funding
scholarships and internships that we can continue to utilise, such as the Change
100 programme. Our team will continue to raise money and awareness for Leonard
Cheshire and all the hard work that they do.Well done to our Snowdon team,
Sarah, Abbey, Sam, Jo, Matt, Sophie & friends for all your hard work in
completing the walk to raise money for Leonard Cheshire. Follow us on TikTok and

CV WRITING CHECKLIST

When applying for a new role, your CV is the first representation of you that
will be viewed by the employer, so it is vital to make a good impression. There
are many key aspects to include within your CV, so the recruiter can help in
finding you a role, or give the employer a view of what you have done
previously. On average, it takes employers six seconds to decide on whether to
continue reading your CV, so ensuring your CV covers all aspects of you and your
work experience straight away is crucial. We have written a plan of what to
include within your CV and how much detail to go into. Following this guide will
help you to incorporate the correct details and hopefully secure your new
role.[SS1] · Personal detailsClearly state at the top of your CV, your name, and
contact details including your date of birth, home address, phone number, and
email address, so the employer can contact you easily, should you be
successful.  · Grades/QualificationsWhere necessary, detailing acquired
qualifications can help in showing your skills to a potential employer. Listing
qualifications such as degrees, A levels, BTECs, apprenticeships, and all other
relevant qualifications is key, as some roles require certain qualifications to
be considered for the role. · EducationNo matter the time since being in
education, employers are interested in knowing where and when qualifications
were obtained.  · Work experienceDetail all information of current and previous
roles. Include start and end dates, job titles, and a sentence about the company
itself and what your role involved, and your key responsibilities within the
company – but keep it brief! Add your most recent job at the top and work
backward. If there are any gaps in your employment history, add this in and
include a short reason as to why. · Skills and achievementsIf you have skills
that you think may be relevant to the role itself, including skills such as
first-aid, computer proficiency, communication skills, organisational skills,
and such like, include them in your CV. Adding the use of a driving license and
safety training you have completed is also a vital skill to include that will be
relevant to most jobs. · Hobbies and interestsThe inclusion of hobbies and
interests on a CV is hotly debated. We would recommend including these hobbies
if they are relevant to the job you are applying for. If not, keep them for the
interview.  · Most importantly, keep all points relevant – don’t waffle! Once
you have finished writing your CV, have someone proofread it to ensure there are
no mistakes and that it reads correctly. Stick to the key points and ensure they
are all relevant. If you are looking for your next role, take a look through our
website and see what roles we have available in your local area, and see how we
can help you.https://www.meridianbs.co.uk/
