** WHAT IS AN “IMPACT CAMPAIGN”? **
Thanks to you, post-production is now funded (sound mix, color correction) to
make the film look and sound as good as possible. Now we can focus on what’s
known as an impact campaign, which will ensure the film will reach audiences and
motivate them towards social change, creating deeper engagement and further
learning around the film’s themes.

** QU’EST-CE QU’UNE “CAMPAGNE D’IMPACT” ? **
Grâce à vous, la post-production est financée(son et image) pour avoir le plus
beau film. Nous pouvons maintenant nous concentrer sur une campagne d’impact, ce
qui nous permettra d’atteindre un public plus large et déclencher des prises de
conscience collectives et contribuer à des changements sociétaux.



Every Friday night, former inmates and prisoners’ loved ones meet in downtown
Houston at KPFT, a listener sponsored community radio station, to create a show
that caters to prisoners and the families they've left behind: the Prison Show.
In the small recording studio that broadcasts across the state of Texas, the
staff unveils the trauma and hardships caused by incarceration, and tries to
restore the ties that have been broken by imprisonment.

Through the show and the stories of the staff, this documentary offers a unique
portrait of the brutality of the American criminal system.Tous les vendredis
soirs, des anciens détenus et des proches de prisonniers se retrouvent dans une
radio du Texas pour animer une émission consacrée aux détenus : le "Prison
Show”. Depuis son petit studio d’enregistrement, qui émet dans tout l’État,
l’équipe dévoile les traumatismes engendrés par l’incarcération et tente de
restaurer les liens brisés par la prison.

À travers les coulisses de l’émission et les témoignages des membres de
l’équipe, ce documentaire offre un point de vue unique sur la brutalité du
système carcéral américain.





WHY WE ARE MAKING THIS FILM

I first met Ray Hill, the founder of The Prison Show and co-founder of Execution
Watch (along with producer Elizabeth Stein), in 2012. I was struck by the way
Ray used the medium of radio to humanize those behind bars while bringing
attention to various issues linked to mass incarceration, especially the death
penalty.  From that very first meeting, I knew that I wanted to make a
documentary about these shows. A film about these radio programs can shed light
on the destructive nature of the criminal justice system, while also
highlighting a group of individuals who are finding concrete ways to fight it.

Mass incarceration is undoubtedly one of the biggest social problems plaguing
the United States today. Tens of millions of Americans have a loved one behind
bars (2.7 million children alone have an incarcerated parent). They all bear
numerous burdens, including stigma and shame associated with having a family
member in prison, increased financial strain, physical and emotional stress, and
lack of external resources. In the face of these obstacles, The Prison Show has
allowed prisoners and their families to stay connected, and provided a positive
example for those who are listening that there can be life after prison.

Ray Hill passed away before the film could be completed. His last appearances on
The Prison Show and Execution Watch, which are featured in this documentary,
have given the film a special meaning. While Ray was in hospice, I assured him
the film would see the light of day, and I intend to keep my promise.



POURQUOI CE FILM ?

J’ai rencontré Ray Hill, le fondateur de "Prison Show" et co-fondateur de
"Execution Watch" (avec sa co-productrice Elizabeth Stein) en 2012. J’ai été
frappée par sa manière unique d’utiliser la radio pour humaniser les prisonniers
et dénoncer l’incarcération de masse et la peine de mort. Depuis cette première
rencontre, j’ai voulu réaliser un film sur ses émissions. J’ai voulu mettre en
lumière la nature destructrice du système carcéral américain, tout en montrant
des individus qui se battent et offrent un message d’humanité.

L'incarcération de masse est l'un des problèmes sociaux majeurs aux États-Unis
aujourd'hui. Des dizaines de millions d'Américains ont un proche derrière les
barreaux (2,7 millions d'enfants ont un parent incarcéré). Ils portent tous un
très lourd fardeau, à la fois matériel et émotionnel : le manque, la
stigmatisation et la honte associées au fait d'avoir un membre de leur famille
incarcéré. Face à ces obstacles, le Prison Show offre aux détenus et à leurs
proches la possibilité de maintenir un lien. L’émission donne de l'espoir à ceux
qui l’écoutent en démontrant qu'une vie après la prison est envisageable.

Ray Hill est décédé avant que le film soit terminé. J’ai pu filmer sa dernière
apparition sur le Prison Show et sur Execution Watch. Je lui ai assuré que je
terminerai le film et je compte bien tenir ma promesse.





Gabriella Kessler is a French-American filmmaker living in Paris. Her first
feature documentary, “Braddock America,” co-directed with Jean-Loïc Portron,
premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the ACID selection in 2013, and was
selected in a dozen film festivals. Gabriella also works as an editor, and has
edited documentaries for Canal Plus and Arte, most recently about Robert De
Niro. 

Gabriella Kessler est une réalisatrice franco-américaine qui vit à Paris. Son
premier long-métrage documentaire “Braddock America”, coréalisé avec Jean-Loïc
Portron, a été sélectionné au festival de Cannes dans la sélection de l’ACID en
2013. Gabriella travaille aussi en tant que monteuse, dernièrement sur un
documentaire pour Arte sur Robert De Niro. 



Philip Drouin and Thibault Dufour are the founders of Check-in Films, which has
produced over 600 projects for institutional and commercial markets since 2009.
They work with the United Nations, the World Bank, the OECD and other
international institutions, as well as with major brands, using video to help
catalyze positive change.

publicitaires.  Ils collaborent  notamment avec de nombreuses institutions

Since 2019, Constance Ortuzar has produced a dozen documentaries on history,
culture, or society, broadcast on French and international channels. Her most
recent productions include "Chine, rêves et cauchemars" (3 x 52’, ARTE), "Nos
restaurants, une grande histoire française" (90’, M6) and "Infirmières, notre
histoire" (90’, France 3).

Depuis 2019, Constance Ortuzar a produit une douzaine de documentaires consacrés
à l’histoire, la culture ou la société, diffusés sur les chaînes françaises et
internationales. Ses productions les plus récentes incluent Chine, rêves et

Solveig Risacher has been editing films for over 20 years, and is the definition
of a cinephile. She works closely with directors, and can adapt to any style of
documentary: cinema vérité, archival film, portraits… she brings a humane and
artistic eye to all the films she works on. She has edited numerous short films
as well as features for French TV (Arte, France Télévisions) and film
festivals. 

Passionnée par le langage filmique sous toutes ses formes, Solveig Risacher est
monteuse de films depuis 2003. En étroite collaboration avec les réalisateurs,
elle aborde dans son travail différentes écritures: cinéma direct, films
d’archives, portraits d’humains et d’artistes. Elle a monté de nombreuses formes
courtes et plus de 20 longs métrages documentaires diffusés à la télévision
(Arte, France Télévisions) et en festivals.

The documentary is completely filmed, and the editing is well underway, but we
still need to raise money for post-production (color correction and sound mix)
and some graphic design. This is the bare minimum to allow us to make the film
look and sound as good as possible. Any additional money raised will go right
back into the film, allowing us to submit it to international film festivals to
make sure it gets seen by as many people as possible.

The film will be completed by Summer 2024 and will be available by the end of
