MAC EL CAPITAN FOR VMWARE

New poster so be a little (or not) kind. Just gotten around to building a new
rig at home so I can finish working on my PhD. By default my work machine is
MacBook Pro (13 Retina for those wanting to know) but I also use Windows for a
little dev work and the odd game. Was going to dual boot this new box but disk
encryption pains mean that a VM for the El Capitan build would be far more
usable day to day. So Far I've followed the advice I can find on the forum and
created a VM in Workstation 12 Pro (luckily part of the University's standard
tools).

Overview OS X El Capitan brings lots of useful enhancements to your Mac.

As it stands the specs are. Host: Win10Edu, Intel i5 6600k, 32Gb DDR4, 2x 240Gb
SSD & GTX970 GPU OSX VM: 2 cores, 16Gb RAM and the VM having raw disk to one of
those 240Gb SSD's exclusively (this way being damn close to the same spec as my
MacBook) The VM installed fine with things like Unlocker, SMC=0 and such.

BUT once booted and the VMWare Tools shipping with 12Pro were installed it was
obvious things are not quite right. Everything is sluggish as.

Granted with only 128Mb of VRAM I'm not expecting super smooth desktops or to
run games but simple things like opening Safari and using it should be ok. I
installed Geekbench (32bit) for a quick sanity check and am getting scores of
994 single, 1701 multi - which are a fraction of what my three year old MacBook
manages. Looking at the host OS I can see the memory allocation slowly creeping
up but no where near 16Gb and the CPU utilisation even when running GeekBench is
not a lot more than idle. I cannot seem to get the bluetooth driver to be added
to the VM so I can use my Apple Magic Keyboard or Trackpad properly. Basic
functionality under Windows (host) is there but no gestures in OSX at all.
Questions Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be holding the VM back?

Is this a Skylake host issue or does VMWare abstract so far from that? Anything,
please? Bluetooth, is what I want even possible in the VM?

under VMWare Workstation Pro running on Windows 10 Pro. I followed the
instructions here: and upgraded from Yosemite to El Capitan. What is automater

I have a bit more hardware than you do but I don't believe that is the issue.
You probably need to install the VMWare tools for darwin that come with the
VMWare fusion product versus the tools that come with the Windows version of
VMWare workstation. The performance, especially the mouse, was very bad until I
had installed the tools. I have several Mac's at home including a MacBook Pro 15
I use on the road, but do a lot of my research on a Windows server I built using
VMWare workstation Pro and it is easier to fire up the VM than to switch to one
of the Macs for some of the programs I prefer. I haven't tried to set up
BlueTooth. Righty ho then. Off to try the Darwin tools.

I might even try upping the cores available to the VM. Thanks for heads up.

I decided to pick up the PC version so that I could let the game stretch its
legs a bit with the extra power of my computer.we provided MotoGP 14 PC Game

CMOS re-stocked (so this host is back at 3.5 - 3.9 GHz) I'm now getting 3751
single / 6545 multi-core scores in GeekBench which out performs my MacBook Pro.
I'll post the bluetooth issue in another thread as I can now only consider the
speed issue DONE! I followed the same steps you did (different host, though -
Intel G3258, therefore I left the core settings at their defaults), and left the
memory settings at their defaults as well (2048MB, though I have 8192MB total,
with a max of 4096MB available). I have to use the vmWare method, because of the
motherboard + CPU having issues with a straightforward native install. I'm
actually posting via the VM; therefore, it definitely works. I mounted the Tools
ISO manually, which is included with the Unlocker (I used 207, which I
downloaded from here).

While I WOULD rather do a native install (which I did before my (necessary)
hardware upgrade due to motherboard failure), until I can manage to get a native
install that can cooperate with Haswell, I'll have to use this method instead.
Native installs fail with panics with any OX S version later than 10.8 - nertz.
Righty ho then. Off to try the Darwin tools. I might even try upping the cores
available to the VM.

I have a problem with the Visual Studio 2015 RC Emulator for Android. The
emulator is not starting when I'm starting debugging (F5) nor from 'Tools >
Visual Studio Emulator for Android.' The process is stuck on 'Preparing virtual
machine' and there is a 'Xde.exe' process with 0% CPU usage in Task Manager.

trying to create an app in which the user can view a pdf on an Android device. I
have the pdf, but now I just need to be able to convert each page into a jpg.

This happens for all virtual machines. Previous emulators (pre-RC) were working
just fine. The necessery APIs (19 and 21) are installed according to SDK
manager. I have tried re-installing Visual Studio and also repairing it but it
didn't help. How can I fix that?

Update: Here are logs:. The [Critical] The operation was canceled. Lines are
self explenatory. [Critical] Could not launch 'VS Emulator 5.5' KitKat (4.4)
HDPI Phone' device.occured when I killed xde.exe in Task manager. What's weird
is a fact that when I import VHD file from%localappdata% Microsoft
VisualStudioEmulator Android Containers Local Devices into Hyper-V manager it
works just fine and I can even start it and use it.

Unfortunately, I still can't debug application from Visual Studio that way.
Update 2: So I've reinstalled the Windows on my notebook and same thing happens
after installing Visual Studio 2015 RC. So two different hardware, one clean
Windows installation and same effect. @KamilPajdzik, if that's not the issue,
then in command prompt, run C: Program Files (x86) Microsoft XDE 10.0.10121.0
xde.exe /sku Android /displayName 'VS Emulator 5 ' Lollipop (5.0) XXHDPI Phone'
/memSize 2048 /diagonalSize 5 /video '1080x1920' /vhd 'C: Users AppData Local
Microsoft VisualStudioEmulator Android Containers Local Devices vhd
5_Lollipop_(5.0)_XXHDPI_Phone image.vhd' /name 'VS Emulator 5-inch Lollipop
(5.0) XXHDPI Phone.' *replace with your user name. Then type 'echo%errorlevel%'
in cmd.exe to get the exit code.

I had the same problem for the past 3 days. Word was crashing and then
re-opening the same files every time I opening it again. Somebody mentioned this
was happening only if track changes was active, but this was not my case.
Somebody else mentioned that it was only happening when the Word files were in
full screen view. I have just tried opening Word again - the files in question
opened automatically.

OneDrive for Business files while you’re working on them. These versions allow
you to look back and understand how your files evolved over time and allow you
to restore older versions in case you have made a mistake.

I took them out of full screen, closed them, opening a brand new file, saved
that, closed Word and then opened it again with one of the files that kept
crashing and for now that is working ok. Update on my previous post, I said
downloading the update from Microsoft solved my problem. When I try to open a
new document, I get copies of many previous documents. When I try to close them,
everything crashes. Then, I get the big Microsoft error message, Word has
unexpectedly closed, and will restart. Every document is followed by this
notice, I finally stopped sending the useless notice. Makes it tense to use the
program, as I may or may not keep the document.

Setting up your home Mac for remote file access Working at home all the time can
make even the hardiest soul a bit stir crazy, so I like to leave the house most
days, just to mix it up a bit. However, that also means I frequently run into
situations where I need to retrieve a file from my home iMac that I don’t have

I keep most of my smaller files in Dropbox or iCloud Drive, but on occasion I
need to grab something like, say, a podcast MP3. There are a number of ways to
do this—configuring an SFTP server, for example, or using Back to My Mac—but the
one I’ve found most handy is using OS X’s built-in Screen Sharing. Now, this
does take a little preparation, but the good news it that once you invest the
initial time to configure it, you shouldn’t need to do it again. Here are the

enter, for example, vnc://mymac.ddns.net:5901. (Set frequently used connections
as favorites in the Connect to Server dialog box by clicking the + button.) OS X
will automatically launch its Screen Sharing app and prompt you for the username
and password for the Mac you’re connecting to (which you can, of course, save in
the Keychain). Once you’re looking at the screen of your remote computer, you
can use it just as if you were sitting at it (albeit with some degree of lag,
depending on your connection). But the best part is that you can also easily
transfer files by simply dragging any file icon off the remote computer and onto
your desktop.
