Engaged, positive and forward thinking, while putting climate first. With your help, we in Corangamite can also make a meaningful contribution to delivering a federal parliament where a clear majority of elected representatives are ambitious on both climate action and restoring integrity to politics. Read more #CLIMATEACTIONNOW FIND YOUR OICE "This is the most important vote that I will make in my lifetime." ~ Admiral Chris Barrie, interviewed on the ABC about climate, security, leadership failure and the coming federal election According to published polls, at least seven independents are within 5% of winning. PUT CLIMATE FIRST CLEAR POLICY AND SOLUTIONS FOR CLIMATE The Climate Council is urging Australia’s political parties to get serious with their emissions targets. They’re asking for 75 per cent reductions by 2030. The Morrison government has held firm at 26-28 per cent. Labor is taking a 43 per cent reduction target to the federal election, which is 2 per cent lower than their plan in 2019. We can - and must - do better than this, and this is where the community independents come in. Today there are more than 70 community groups across Australia, typically named “Voices of” or “Voices for”, that are searching for or have endorsed independent candidates to front their campaigns at the federal poll. As a result, voters in more than 20 electorates now have a new political choice to break the deadlock. In Corangamite, we haven't found a candidate to support yet, but we can still support this fantastic movement in many ways. Donate Contact us HOW YOU CAN HELP Right now, the most powerful thing we can do is to raise more money to level the playing field for pro-climate, pro-integrity, and pro-gender equality candidates. To do that, we go door-knocking in our community and talk climate with voters about the federal election, about how they can support the movement, who we recommend they vote for if they want to see stronger climate action in the next parliament, and how they can help our movement if they would like to. OUR TEAM Our group of volunteers is growing by the day. So many of us have had enough being by-standers while our elected representatives mock around with important issues such as the climate. Activities We are planning a public town hall candidate meeting in April. And we meet regularly in Zoom. Door-knocking We want to talk with thousands of voters in Corangamite - and we have a plan for how we will do this. Our values We share Climate200's values on climate policy, transparency and gender equality. Join us Step up and begin to make a real difference in your community at this election. ACTION ALL OVER THE COUNTRY "WHEN ENOUGH PEOPLE COME TOGETHER THEN CHANGE WILL COME AND WE CAN ACHIEVE ALMOST ANYTHING. SO INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR HOPE - START CREATING IT." ~ GRETA THUNBERG COMMUNITY VOICES OF GOLDSTEIN ZOE DANIEL DEMOCRACY DEEP CLEAN OUR PARLIAMENT IN CANBERRA PUT CLIMATE FIRST WARRINGAL ZALI STEGGALL ACTIVE HOPE GEELONG REGION TEAM WORK INTEGRITY NORTH SYDNEY KYLEA TINK GENDER EQUITY KOOYONG MONIQUE RYAN "The success of Zali Steggall, and other independents, including Helen Haines and Rebekha Sharkie, have inspired a growing number of “climate independent” candidates seeking to unseat vulnerable Coalition parliamentarians at the next election, targeting the Morrison government’s failures to set meaningful climate change policies." ~ Michael Mazengarb, RenewEconomy READ MORE BACKGROUND Simon Holmes á Court's Climate200 is fighting for science-based climate policy by raising funds – so far $7.6 million by 9,000 donors – that is being allocated to suitable independent candidates in key seats. This movement has sparked an uplifting political revolution in Australia. ART OF THE POSSIBLE ‹› TRUE REPRESENTATION We can no longer be a sleep at the wheel. In order to stop the climate crisis, the flow of money to coal, oil, and gas companies must end. And the flow of money back from coal, oil and gas companies to political parties must end too. Zali Steggall's 2019-election victory as an independent running in Warringah has been a huge inspiration for other communities. More independent voices in Parliament could rewrite the next decades for Australia. In Geelong in 2019, we created the #PutClimateFirst alliance of Council candidates to advocate for stronger climate action in Geelong Council. Dr Belinda Moloney ran a successful campaign and got elected as Councillor for Kardinia. And even if we don't, there is a lot we can do to help change the outcome of this election. Let's make it a climate election! Contact us! ‹› We are calling for all residents of the Corangamite electorate who believe there is an urgent need for stronger, community-driven representation in Federal Parliament, to get on board and join the movement. WHY VOTE INDEPENDENT? Australia's democracy is broken, and the two major parties have shown again and again over the last decade that they are not willing to fix it. No one is coming to fix it, unless we - the Australian people - do something about it. Voting in more independent politicians who have integrity and who listen to their community is now the only way it can be done. So far, independents like Zali Steggall have shown us the way forward. Why is this important for the climate? In Greta Thunberg's words: "Democracy is everything. We can't save the living planet without it.” Climate action in Parliament Integrity and truth in politics Respect, equality and inclusion Representing the community, not vested interests "WE ARE AT A UNIQUE POINT IN HUMAN HISTORY. DUE TO THE SCIENTIFIC GENIUS OF MEN AND WOMEN, WE CAN EITHER ON THE ONE HAND IMPROVE THE STANDARD AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF ALL MANKIND – OR WE CAN DESTROY THE PLANET AS WE KNOW IT." ~ BOB HAWKE, FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA CONTACT US We have an office in Geelong CBD, on 32 Malop Street.
