Step into the world of Gothic architecture with Gothic London, a design
guidebook aimed towards tourists of London and lovers of history and
architecture. Discover more about the two time periods when the style was
prevalent, learn about the styles technological innovations and characteristics,
and explore the Gothic sites in the city as you read along. Complete with maps
taking you directly to the sites via the nearest tube station.

The textured soft white paper gives a tactile effect and compliments the
photographs of the masonry.

Embossment gives the cover a tactile element to it and the gold vinyl combined
captures the ornate detail of the Gothic style.





The typography is inspired by the pointed arch and Gothic shapes. The grandiose
of Cathedrals is resembled when the contents opens to reveal the Decorative
Gothic typeface at a large scale.

The map shown on the contents page shows the Gothic sites in relation to each
other.

Photography is used as part of the visual language to extract the architecture
and bring it to life on the pages.

A combination of illustration and photography in diagrams is used to educate the
audience in a visual manner on the characteristics of the Gothic style and the
terminology used.

Illustrations are used to capture the spirit and beauty of the Gothic style and
showcase the passion behind Gothic London.



Maps show the best walking route to take from the nearest tube station and the
estimated time with necessary street names included. The floor plan of the
building used to show the exact location of each site. Suggestions of where to
eat and rest on the tour are also included.

The patterned end paper on the inside of the cover resembles a complex star
vaulting design. The colour’s compliment the black and gold colour palette on
the cover.



A design created specifically for Risograph printing. The cover shows the
approximate location of Gothic sites in relation to the River Thames. Inside are
illustrations showing characteristics of the Gothic style.

Using a 2-colour process with a Riso printer creates effects unique to Riso and
Screen-printing like knockout and overprinting.




A poster of Westminster Abbey, the most well known medieval Gothic site in
London, is revealed when the zine is opened up. The colour yellow represents the
light illuminating the abbey evoking the emotions one might feel when gazing
upon the rose window and arcades.
