BY C C CAMPBELL Most mothers sacrifice their needs for their family, and are often taken for granted. In middle-age, they can feel invisible to men, and miss the attention they once knew. This is true of barrister Angie, who has lost her sense of self. An outrageous truth spoken in jest, then causes her to re-evaluate her life. She concludes that her time has come, and wants to rebuild her confidence and feel desired again. Her self-styled feminism shines a new light on women’s sexual empowerment. She fights for the freedom to be herself, whilst battling with guilt, judgement, and the constraints of her marriage and family life. With the support of her husband, Rich, Angie indulges her all-consuming quest to find herself. Even though Rich sometimes struggles with this emotionally and morally, he is determined to love, and not judge. Explicit scenes play out in order to convey the intriguing journey of self-discovery, and range of emotions Rich and Angie experience. This journey is not for the faint hearted! I wondered, as I discretely observed their interaction. It was plain to see that my wife literally oozed sexiness from every inch of her being. Excerpt from Desired There was a lot of tactile flirting in amongst the conversation and laughter. As you can imagine, the sexual excitement which pervaded the atmosphere was palpable. Excerpt from Desired Marcus told us in his rich, posh voice that the main thing was to always ask before you touch. And that no, means absolutely no. ‘The ladies,’ he added, ‘control everything.’ Excerpt from Desired ‘Not invisible to men anymore then?’ I questioned with a cheeky smile. ‘No,’ said my wife, ‘in fact, I’ve been getting some approving looks, and I’m actually starting to feel sexy again!’ Excerpt from Desired ‘I’m sick of this, you stupid bastard!’ said my wife. ‘You need a virtuous girl. Emma Jones Review for Desired 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 C C Campbell, affectionately known as CC, was raised under the influence of the High Church, with its judgemental patriarchy, particularly against women. This upbringing certainly influenced the main characters in the Desired trilogy, who want to break free from undue moral repression. As with all boundaries, once they are pushed or removed, a whole new set of trials come into play. Having heard many women and couples talk openly about their marriages, CC has successfully woven real life emotions and feelings into Desired. Now happily residing in the Cotswolds, CC embraces a more liberal philosophy to life and people, and especially enjoys writing in the magical moments around sunrise.
