A Landmark Lost
The Diving Lady was a landmark in Avon Park for many years. She now resides in a
warehouse waiting to "dive" again.

explained the various historical exhibits by museum representative Jim Deal.
They moved to the access ramp and greeted the Amtrak on its way to New York
City.

Residents of Little Charlie RV Park in Wauchula visited the Depot Museum
recently. A tour of the museum exhibits by conducted by Jim Deal museum

Meteor as it passed on its was to New York City.

Cornerstone Christian

Some kindergarden and 2nd grades from Avon Park Baptist Church Cornerstone
Christian Academy recently visited the Depot Museum. A short history of the
founding of Avon Park was presented to the students by Ms. Jimmie Butts who was
portraying Mrs. Oliver Crosby the founders wife. Several other exhibits were
explained and then the group moved to the Silver Palm Dining car for lunch.
While there the Amtrak train passed and was greeted by the students as they
waved from the observation ramp. Each student received a momento from the museum
and then returned to class.

Telephone Switchboard

When the telephone company converted to computer direct dialing in 1985 this
last piece of vintage switchboard equipment was shut down. This was the only one
in use in the state of Florida here in Avon Park at the time and was used to
connect calls between Zolfo, Wauchula and Bowling Green. The Depot Museum is
fortunate to have this piece of local history. Come visit us and see our
collection of early telephone equipment.

$12 or 2 for $20.
