Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10AM until 3Pm. Continue to schedule events on the dining car. Call Nancy Fisk at 813-482-4868. Visit with us... History A Landmark Lost The Diving Lady was a landmark in Avon Park for many years. She now resides in a warehouse waiting to "dive" again. KOA Club East Coast KOA Motorcycle Club recently visited the Depot Museum. The group was explained the various historical exhibits by museum representative Jim Deal. They moved to the access ramp and greeted the Amtrak on its way to New York City. Little Charlie RV Residents of Little Charlie RV Park in Wauchula visited the Depot Museum recently. A tour of the museum exhibits by conducted by Jim Deal museum Representative. The group moved to the access ramp and greeted the Amtrak Silver Meteor as it passed on its was to New York City. Cornerstone Christian Some kindergarden and 2nd grades from Avon Park Baptist Church Cornerstone Christian Academy recently visited the Depot Museum. A short history of the founding of Avon Park was presented to the students by Ms. Jimmie Butts who was portraying Mrs. Oliver Crosby the founders wife. Several other exhibits were explained and then the group moved to the Silver Palm Dining car for lunch. While there the Amtrak train passed and was greeted by the students as they waved from the observation ramp. Each student received a momento from the museum and then returned to class. Telephone Switchboard When the telephone company converted to computer direct dialing in 1985 this last piece of vintage switchboard equipment was shut down. This was the only one in use in the state of Florida here in Avon Park at the time and was used to connect calls between Zolfo, Wauchula and Bowling Green. The Depot Museum is fortunate to have this piece of local history. Come visit us and see our collection of early telephone equipment. $12 or 2 for $20.
