WHEN WILL THE TIANA’S BAYOU ADVENTURE RIDE OPEN IN DISNEYLAND?

the disney food blog
By: David Goodkind
16 July 2024 at 10:00

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened last month at Magic Kingdom in Disney World but
we still have some questions that have been lingering on our minds.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland

When Disney announced that Splash Mountain would be reimagined to become Tiana’s
Bayou Adventure back in 2020, we learned that the new attraction would not only
grace Disney World, but Disneyland Park as well. Disneyland began construction
on the project after Disney World started its version of the ride, so it makes
sense that it’s lagged behind, but now that we’ve been there and done that with
Disney World’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, all eyes have turned to The Happiest
Place on Earth.

Per the official Disneyland website (and actual signs around
Disneyland), Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is still slated to open in 2024 at
Disneyland. As to the exact date, we still don’t know. Disney has been pretty
tight-lipped so far about the Disneyland version. Still, that hasn’t stopped us
from speculating and we might have a few guesses as to when the
ride could eventually open.

Construction on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

We visit Disneyland multiple times every week and monitor the progress the ride
is making. Basing our observations on Magic Kingdom’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
timeline, the Disneyland version looks to be making good progress and right now
we have no reason to doubt Disney’s 2024 timeline. So operating on the
assumption that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open this year, there are a few
options Disneyland has to roll out this new attraction.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom

First and foremost, Disney would need time to finish construction, do ride
testing, and hold previews, so expecting an official opening date before
September is pretty much off the table. It’s always possible that Disney gets an
exponential amount of work done in July and August that expedites the opening
timeline, but we’re speculating that development will continue through
August. As we said, we’re visiting frequently and while construction is moving,
our reporters have yet to see anything that makes them go, “Oh, this looks about
ready to open!”

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disney World

So here’s where things start to get serious. September and the fall is a big
time at the Disneyland Resort, as it is in the middle of Halloween Time. Haunted
Mansion will have returned with its holiday overlay, Oogie Boogie Bash will be
ongoing, and the resort will be experiencing increased interest. It could make
sense for Disney to turn the hype levels from 10 to 11 by rolling out Tiana’s
Bayou Adventure around Halloween.

Disneyland

After Halloween, the next plausible opening timeframe would be before November
15th, Disneyland’s holiday season. The time between Halloween Time and the
holiday season at Disneyland is typically considered one of the resort’s
offseasons, so it could make sense to drum up demand by officially opening
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Louis on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Finally, the only time left when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure could open in
Disneyland is around the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas already draw in
massive crowds and Disneyland could possibly use this to its advantage when
opening Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. With that said, this is also the end of the
year and the ride would have to open then just to meet the 2024 deadline, and
that could simply be enough justification.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Of course, all of this is speculation and it’s always possible that Disneyland
delays the grand opening into 2025. Regardless, we’ll continue to keep you
posted on all Tiana’s Bayou Adventure updates as well as all the latest
Disneyland news, tips, reviews, and more, so stay tuned right here at the Disney
Food Blog!

Disneyland celebrates 69 years of entertaining fans of all ages this week. And
how is the old girl doing? We’ll take a look. It’s certainly hard to believe
that nearly seven decades have passed. And while we have lots of beautiful
photos to share, there are also some very troubling signs that we sincerely hope

UM
THIS COULD BE THE COOLEST SOUVENIR DISNEY WILL EVER RELEASE

the disney food blog
By: Robin Burks
12 July 2024 at 13:20

Us Disney World fans are often very jealous of Disneyland (which is why we’re
often booking trips to the West Coast, too).

Disneyland

Not only does Disneyland have the BEST corndogs, churros, and snacks (we rate
Disneyland #1 for food, by the way), but it also gets the BEST souvenirs. Now,
granted, sometimes those souvenirs do make their way to Disney World, but
sometimes that takes a while. That’s why we’re currently checking flights to
Anaheim because Disney just dropped a look at a new souvenir that is a 100%
MUST-HAVE.

So the official Disney Parks TikTok account posted a video of the absolute
CUTEST ice cream bucket we’ve ever seen. It’s shaped like an ice cream truck,
but you get it with ICE CREAM IN IT. Move out of the way, kitchen sink, because
this is officially the best way to serve ice cream now.

Here’s a still from the video so you can get a better look. Mickey is driving
the little ice cream truck.

It even comes with a spoon shaped like an ice cream cone to eat the ice cream
with. This is PURE GENIUS.

©Disney

So when and where can you get your hands on this ice cream truck bucket? It’s
going to be released in Disneyland on July 16th at Gibson Girl in Disneyland and
Clarabelle’s in Disney California Adventure. So let’s start booking those
flights to the West Coast now! While you’re there, might as well enjoy Pixar
Fest, too, which runs through August 4th.

Stay tuned to DFB for more.

FIND OUT ‘HOW HAPPY HAPPENS’ WITH DISNEY CAST MEMBERS

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
12 July 2024 at 08:00

I’ve been grateful for a Disney career that’s taken me around the world, from
performing at Shanghai Disney Resort to representing Walt Disney World Resort as
a Global Disney Ambassador. They’re experiences that gave me a deep love for the
work our cast members do every single day.

Recently, I’ve had the chance to share time with a few special cast members,
learning first-hand about the amazing experience, dedication and passion each
brings to their unique role. They’re the stars of “How Happy Happens,” a new
@DisneyParks YouTube series showcasing the stories of those who create the magic
across Disney Experiences, day in and day out.

You can watch the newest episode above, featuring Bob, one of the talented
artists at the Silhouette Studio, located on Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland
park. It was clear from the moment Bob greeted me that his passion for his craft
was more than just a job; it was a way of life, and what made the experience
truly special was seeing the sheer delight that Bob gets from his work.

Each monthly episode is a deep dive into interesting roles across Disneyland
Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, offering an intimate glimpse into a day on
the job with different cast members. We also get to learn about the personal
stories of each cast member, uncovering pivotal moments that fueled their love
for Disney and inspired them to pursue careers here.

For the series premiere, I spent time with Todd, an entertainment technician who
helps make movie magic at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s
Hollywood Studios. From the audience perspective it’s clear how much fun the
performers and crew are having, but Todd also showed me the careful
behind-the-scenes coordination built into this show’s biggest sequences, and
he’s had an incredible journey into this amazing role.

Our last episode gave me the chance to meet Robyn, one of the savanna keepers
who provides unmatched care to our amazing animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Robyn has a heartwarming connection to our rhinos, including one of the oldest
on record to give birth, and witnessing her love for these gentle giants was
incredibly touching.

I can’t wait to show you what we’ve got in store next! Subscribe to @DisneyParks
on YouTube so you’ll know when new episodes arrive, and share this series with
your friends and family, too. If you feel especially inspired and want to be
part of the magic, visit disneycareers.com for more details on opportunities
around the world. Whether you’re dreaming of a role onstage or backstage,
there’s a place for you in the Disney family.

Creating this series has been an extraordinary journey that’s given me a new
perspective on Disney and the people who bring it to life. We’re excited to
bring more stories to you and continue celebrating the incredible cast members
who make happy happen every day!

NEWS: A POPULAR DOWNTOWN DISNEY RESTAURANT IS OFFERING A JULY SPECIAL

the disney food blog
By: David Goodkind
9 July 2024 at 17:56

Are you looking for good dining deals at Disneyland? One of Downtown Disney’s
newest restaurants has you covered!

Paseo and Centrico

Paseo opened alongside Centrico in May and has been a hotspot for Downtown
Disney diners ever since. The Disneyland Resort location features a menu created
by Michelin Star-winning chef Carlos GaytĂĄn and offers high-end Mexican cuisine.
RIGHT NOW, Paseo is offering a special deal that’s PERFECT if you’re dining for
two — read below to see if you qualify!

Paseo is currently offering a $100 dinner for two now through the end of the
July! The deal isn’t offered to everyone, however, and meal selections are a tad
limited. Let’s get into the specifics.

Paseo

Known as the Magic Key Month Special, this deal is for Disneyland Magic Key
Passholders ONLY through July 31st, 2024, and will allow Magic Key Passholders
to experience the signature flavors of Chef GaytĂĄn with an exclusive dinner
menu.

©Paseo Restaurant

The Chef’s Classics $100 Dinner for Two includes three courses. The first course
is Mejillones or Caesar Salad with Chicken or Shrimp, the main course is Mama’s
Conchinita Pibil and Yucatán Fish, and the dessert is listed as Chef’s Choice.

©Paseo Restaurant

Additionally, Magic Key Passholders can stop by Tiendita, an on-the-go
restaurant adjacent to Paseo. The quick-service restaurant is offering free agua
fresca with any purchase of $25 or more. To receive both deals, Magic Keys must
be presented and the Magic Key Passholder must be present.

Tiendita

Paseo serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays and, on weekdays, is open for
dinner starting at 4PM. Paseo and Centrico are located at the spot previously
occupied by Catal & Uva Bar. Tiendita is a quick-service option for the trio of
restaurants. We’ve visited Paseo, Centrico, and Tiendita a few times now and
we’ve had very positive experiences. You can read our Paseo review below!

be able to find in both Disneyland and Disney World this year, and tickets have
been on sale for the events on each coast for a few weeks now. If you were
hoping to head to Oogie Boogie Bash in Disneyland this year, we hope you already
got your tickets, because they’re SOLD OUT!

Tickets went on sale last month on a few different dates, depending on which
group you qualified as:

 * June 25th, 2024: Inspire Magic Key Holders (limited number of tickets
   available for pre-sale)
 * June 26th, 2024: All Magic Key Holders (limited number of tickets available
   for pre-sale)
 * June 27th, 2024: General public (limited amount of tickets available)

Villains Grove

We saw the first night of the party sell out by June 25th (which is wild, since
that was before Magic Key Holders and the general public could buy them), and
the system had a LOT of bugs and issues that made getting our tickets pretty
difficult.

Mickey’s Trick and Treat Show

Now, however, the system is showing tickets as ALL sold out, and Disney is also
not hinting that any more will become available. So if you weren’t able to get
tickets, we’re sorry to say that it’s very likely that you’re out of luck.

Oogie Boogie Bash is a highly anticipated event every year — it’s where Disney
California Adventure becomes overrun with some of your favorite Disney villains.
Similar to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom, guests are
invited to dress up as they experience some of the park’s attractions after
dark, travel along trick-or-treat trails, exclusive snacks, and meet and greets,
as well as exciting entertainment that’s only available during the event.

Frightfully Fun Parade

The Bash officially begins at 6PM and goes until 11PM each night, but those who
have tickets for the event can enter as early as 3PM. This means that Disney
California Adventure may close EARLY for regular ticket holders for all party
days, which are:

DISNEY REVEALS NEW MENU FOR A POPULAR RESTAURANT

the disney food blog
By: Angie Garcia
5 July 2024 at 11:27

When there’s new food announced at a Disney park, you know we’re right there
ready to report on it.

Sleeping Beauty Castle

As much as we love our tried and true menu favorites at restaurants throughout
Disney World and Disneyland, we do enjoy news of brand-new food items to try
during our next trip (because they might become our new favorites!). Disney has
just announced a new lunch menu at Disneyland Resort and we are hyped for all
they have to offer.

A NEW lunch menu has debuted at Carthay Circle Restaurant over at Disney’s
California Adventure Park. Carthay Circle is a classic Hollywood-inspired
restaurant filled with Art Deco decor making it feel like a swanky hot spot from
the Golden Age of Hollywood (think Hollywood Tower Hotel without all the cobwebs
and creepy stuff). It features a sophisticated menu, influenced by upscale
Southern Californian cuisine, along with retro-inspired cocktails.

Carthay Circle Restaurant

Starting on July 12th, new items will be added to the restaurant’s lineup as
part of their Prix-Fixe Lunch Menu, which is only available on the weekends,
Friday-Sunday. The adult lunch menu includes a choice of one starter and one
entrée and is priced at $59 plus tax per adult.

Carthay Circle

First up as one of the new entrees offered is the Ginger and Soy Glazed Tri Tip
which looks absolutely DELICIOUS. The steak seems really tender and we are fans
of the Ginger and soy combo. This is listed as a main course option on the menu.

@Disneyeats

The Pan Roasted Shrimp looks shrimply delicious and we are curious to know what
the sauce consists of. It is also on the menu as a main course.

@Disneyeats

And the Grilled Chicken Meatloaf is also an option as your main course. Chicken
Meatloaf isn’t really common to spot, so we love the unique twist on a comfort
food classic on the menu.

@Disneyeats

One of the starter options is the Green Garbanzo Bean Fritters. As a
self-proclaimed ‘Garbanzo Girlie‘, these look so good and the presentation makes
it seem like it’ll be an interesting burst of flavors in every bite.

@Disneyeats

And of course, no starter menu is complete without the option of a salad, and
this Greek-style salad looks fresh and tasty. Very Southern California vibes.

@Disneyeats

You can order these items starting on July 12th at Carthay Circle Restaurant at
Disney California Adventure Park. We can’t wait to hear what everyone has to say
about this new menu and hope to try it out soon.

Stay tuned as we bring you all the latest Disney news and updates!

ALERT: 5 (!!!) DISNEY CLOSURES BEGIN ON JULY 8TH

Bad news, Disney fans. Getting around Disneyland Resort might look a little
different soon. Why? There are several big closures and refurbishments happening
soon, and they may impact your trip.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland

If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Resort this July, you might want to be
aware of these upcoming closures. There’s nothing worse than being caught off
guard during your vacation! Now, let’s dive in and see what’s changing.

First, a handy pathway that connects two parts of Disneyland will be closed
soon. In fact, Disney shared that the bridge connecting New Orleans Square with
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will close starting July 8th, 2024. This is only a
temporary closure, and you can still access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge via the
Frontierland entrance.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

Starting July 8th, you’ll have one less spot to dine! Hungry Bear Restaurant
will temporarily close for “kitchen refurbishments,” so you won’t be able to get
any chicken tenders or burgers from this spot. That said, you can get similar
food at nearby spots like Stage Door Café and Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante.

Hungry Bear Restaurant

While the restaurant is closed, the Hungry Bear restrooms will also be
unavailable. Luckily, there are plenty of nearby restrooms, but the closest
option is located in Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Hungry Bear Restaurant

Paddles down, people! Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes will also close starting
July 8th, 2024. The closure is due to adjacent construction.

Davy Crockett’s Canoes

Finally, we have one more closure to point out. If you were hoping to grab a
healthy snack from the Critter Country Fruit Cart, you’ll be out of luck
starting July 8th. This cart is closing due to its location in Critter Country.
Luckily, Disneyland has plenty of other fruit carts around the park, so all hope
is not lost!

Critter Country

Wow, it looks like July 8th will be a busy day in terms of closures and
construction at Disneyland! Oh, and don’t forget — starting in August, two other
attractions will close at Disneyland Park, including the Disneyland Railroad and
Space Mountain. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest
Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Calling all galactic travelers! There’s a new Disney treat at Star Wars:
Galaxy’s Edge!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

Ever since the Star Wars land opened in 2019 at Disneyland Park, Batuu has been
home to many kinds of fun nods to the Star Wars universe, such as Oga’s Cantina
and delicious Blue and Green Milk. In fact, if you can’t get enough of this
tasty Disney drink, you’ve gotta check out this NEWEST limited-time offering!

Right now, the Milk Stand in Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland is selling a special
Green Milk with Klatooine Paddy Frog Eggs and we tried it out!

Green Milk with Klatooine Paddy Frog Eggs

This variation on Green Milk is made with strawberry purée and blueberry popping
spheres. You can pick this up at the Milk Stand while supplies last for $9.49.

Available while supplies last

We tried this new concotion on a super hot day and it was so refreshing! It had
the citrusy tropical flavor of regular green milk, but the purée added the taste
of fresh and sweet strawberries.

So refreshing!

The blueberry popping spheres were a nice touch but they quickly sank to the
bottom, so get your Instagram pictures fast! These blueberry spheres were good,
but they were more artificial in flavor than the purĂ©e. While they didn’t hurt
the drink, they also didn’t elevate it.

Green Milk with Klatooine Paddy
Frog Eggs

All in all, we found this drink to be something akin to a smoothy, and that’s a
good thing! Refreshing and sweet, we think this should appeal to
already-established fans of Blue or Green Milk. If you don’t like those drinks
or aren’t a huge fan of strawberries, then this might not be the Star Wars treat
for you. Otherwise, we recommend trying this during your next visit to a galaxy
far, far away!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

As always, stay tuned right here at the Disney Food Blog for all the latest
Disneyland reviews, tips, news, and more!

THE ONE DISNEY WORLD RULE THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO DISNEYLAND

the disney food blog
By: David Goodkind
30 June 2024 at 16:00

We are constantly visiting both Disney World and Disneyland and one thing is for
certain — both resorts are VASTLY different!

Disneyland

Disney World and Disneyland have a ton of differences. Featuring different
accommodations, attractions, dining options, and entertainment, visiting each
resort will result in wildly different experiences. In fact, if you’re a Disney
World pro planning a trip to Disneyland, there’s one major rule you can almost
always ignore!

The most notable difference between the two resorts is the size. In fact,
Disneyland can fit inside Magic Kingdom’s parking lot! So when you’re planning a
trip to Disneyland, it’s safe to say you can throw out the Disney World rule
about giving yourself time for transportation — except for one special
circumstance. Let us explain

Disneyland Monorail

First things first — at Disney World, you have to account for the time that it
takes to wait for transportation and the distance it takes to get between the
parks and the hotels. Sometimes this can take over 30 minutes. You also have a
plethora of transportation options to choose from, such as buses, the Disney
Skyliner, water taxis, and the monorail.

Skyliner at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Meanwhile, getting around the Disneyland Resort is much simpler. You can take
buses and the Disneyland Monorail, but the latter is more for show, as it simply
drops off near the Disneyland Hotel in Downtown Disney and Tomorrowland in
Disneyland Park.

If you’re staying at the hotels on property at the Disneyland Resort or going
between the two parks, folks who don’t need assistance traveling will usually
get to their destination in a matter of minutes — transportation is hardly
required.

The Disneyland esplanade — from here, you are feet away from everything
Disneyland has to offer!

The Disneyland Esplanade is a super convenient courtyard that connects
Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. From here,
everything is just a few steps away. Downtown Disney’s shops and restaurants are
directly connected, you can access the hotels by going through Downtown Disney,
and you can quite literally see Disneyland and Disney California Adventure’s
gates from each park — no lines or public transportation required.

Esplanade

Of course, Disneyland’s compactness can be most taken advantage of by guests
staying on-property, but if you’re staying nearby you probably should factor in
some travel time. Parking lines are usually manageable but can be tricky in the
morning and after work hours when the locals show up, and driving around the Los
Angeles metropolitan area during rush hour or in the mornings can be nasty.
Southern California has a bad traffic reputation, and, unfortunately, it often
lives up to the reputation.

Traffic could eventually get worse when construction begins for
DisneylandForward, a major theme park expansion project aiming to bring new
dining, attractions, and more to the area.

A line of cars entering the Mickey & Friends parking structure

Fortunately, many Good Neighbor hotels offer shuttle service to and from the
Parks, and we recommend visiting the Disneyland website to learn more about
which hotels might better accommodate your stay.

All in all, when compared to Disneyland, transportation should be a non-factor
for the most part when you traverse the Disneyland Resort. Often felt as a more
laid-back experience altogether than Disney World, you’d be forgiven if you
decide to relax a little more and take your time soaking everything in. No
Skyliner shutdowns to worry about here!

DISNEY ADULTS ACTUALLY LOVE THE NEW CHANGES AT THIS PARK, BUT IT’S NOT MAGIC
KINGDOM OR EPCOT

Is there a superior Disney Park?

Disneyland

Each Disney Park offers something unique — the parks offer lively festivals,
unique attractions, and unforgettable entertainment all over the world. But does
one park do it better than the rest? Some Disney Adults suggest that may be the
case!

While the best Disney Park is purely subjective, fans of the American Disney
Parks are starting to get pretty vocal about one being king of the six
U.S.-based parks — Walt Disney’s original Disneyland! While we don’t have a
favorite (it’s like picking your favorite child), we’ve heard the noise and we
can understand why many Disney Adults feel this way.

Disneyland

The overabundance of love for Disneyland as opposed to the Parks at Disney World
seemingly stems from the reception of the Parks’ changes. Disneyland’s changes
have gotten a warmer reception over the years while Disney World’s changes have
tended to be more controversial among Disney Adults. Why is this? We have a few
theories

WELCOME to Mickey’s Toontown! March 2023

Let’s start with something more recent. Last year, Mickey’s Toontown at
Disneyland was transformed and, for the most part, everyone is happy with the
changes? Right now, Haunted Mansion is closed for a queue makeover and
refurbishment, and the sentiment is largely anticipation rather than disgust.
And Space Mountain’s occasional Hyperspace Mountain overlay is welcomed when it
comes around.

Haunted Mansion is closed and under construction

So why doesn’t Disneyland get the same blowback with its changes that Disney
World does when it changes things up? While there’s no direct science, we have a
few ideas.

The first idea is that Disneyland likely operates with more of a reverence
toward its history due to the stakes involved. Disneyland’s largest clientele is
the locals and Magic Key Passholders, and so appeasing them is sort of a must.
Similarly, as Disney’s first theme park, there’s a sense of responsibility that
must be upheld. Removing or changing beloved, but older attractions cannot be
done lightly.

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is a park staple that is still popular at Disneyland to
this day

So instead of removing, Disneyland has meticulously tried to add or enhance, all
while honoring its history. Mickey’s Toontown is a success because it was
enhanced and not replaced. Rumors circulated for years that Roger Rabbit’s
CarToon Spin would have to make way for a new attraction like Mickey and
Minnie’s Runaway Railway. However, Mickey and Minnie’s was added while nothing
substantial was removed from Toontown. In fact, the land got a shiny new
makeover that only further honored the beloved Disney characters.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin

Meanwhile, Hollywood Studios removed the Great Movie Ride — an opening day
attraction in the center of the park — to make way for its Mickey and Minnie’s.
The Disney World Parks are no stranger to replacing outdated attractions.
However, it doesn’t matter if the new attractions are phenomenal, there will
always be blowback from fans of the classics. Disneyland has had its own share
of these mishaps (looking at you Carousel of Progress and Peoplemover in
Tomorrowland), but as of the last decade-plus, the theme of Disneyland has
clearly been expansion, not replacement, as made evident by DisneylandForward.

Oh, Great Movie Ride, how we miss you

Disneyland also naturally has far fewer mishaps because it has far fewer space
to play with than Disney World. Disney World is a premier tourist destination,
and while Disneyland is also in its own right, it doesn’t hold a candle to
Disney World’s yearly attendance. As a response, Disney World is constantly
trying to innovate and keep up with demand.

Attention and money must be allocated all over the expansive resort, while
Disneyland’s restricted space means every change has to be done delicately and
infrequently. Absolutely everything will be under a microscope, so better not
disappoint.

Pixar Fest banners

Disneyland has also failed in the right areas. Disney California Adventure could
always use more TLC ever since it opened in 2001. It’s offerings have improved
over the years, but change is consistently welcomed there. However, the change
from Bugs Land to Avengers Campus has had a lukewarm reception (fans are still
clamoring for that E-ticket, Avengers attraction), and the change to Pixar Pier
has many Disney Adults wondering if Disney California Adventure will continue
moving away from its loved California-theme, but neither of these can be
considered true failures.

Disneyland seems most inclined to take its biggest risks at the park where
missing your mark will be received better. Like we said before, the calculated
risks are just better at Disneyland.

Avengers Campus

So why do Disney Adults complain less about Disneyland’s changes as opposed to
the changes at Disney World’s Parks? That’s up to you to decide. The reception
certainly seems to favor Disneyland’s direction and changes, but it’s important
to remember that comparing the Disneyland Resort to Disney World can be like
comparing apples to oranges. Disney World has to operate differently than
Disneyland as it offers A TON of stuff that you can’t get at Disneyland while
catering to MUCH larger crowds. It really is a totally different experience —
that will always come with different expectations.

Disneyland opened in July 1955 with an island in the middle of the Rivers of

guests to get to the island — unless they considered swimming to be an option.

REVIEW: STOP OVERSPENDING ON MEALS AT DISNEYLAND AND GO HERE INSTEAD!

the disney food blog
By: David Goodkind
28 June 2024 at 15:00

One of the best things about the Disneyland Resort (undoubtedly) is the FOOD and
it’s even better when the price is super affordable!

Frontierland

It’s no secret that if you’re looking to save a buck or two at the Disney Parks,
quick service is the way to go. These restaurants sacrifice comfort and luxury
dining for quick and cheap meals that are perfect if you’re on the go.
Fortunately, Disneyland has a ton of very good quick service options, including
an incredibly underrated one over at Frontierland in Disneyland Park!

We recently visited Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Disneyland to see if it
still holds up as one of the best Disneyland restaurants and we have plenty of
thoughts. Let’s dive in!

ATMOSPHERE

Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante is found near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in
Frontierland and is open for daily lunch and dinner service.

Rancho del Zocalo

This Mexican restaurant features plenty of Spanish/Mexican influence with
colorful painted tiles, fountains, adobe archways, and hanging plants. It also
has an abundance of shade with both indoor and covered outdoor seating. It can
get pretty busy but on most days you should be able to find seating.

Rancho del Zocalo outdoor seating

The interior features a couple of quick-service counters where you can order
meals and desserts.

Service area of Rancho del Zocalo

Behind the ordering stations is a beverage station where you’ll find plenty of
options.

Self-Serve Beverage Area

All in all, Rancho del Zocalo is a quaint oasis in Disneyland that offers a
respite from the hustle and bustle of Disneyland. The literal English
translation of Rancho del Zocalo is “Ranch of the Square” and this restaurant
definitely gives off town square vibes.Be there or be square! But how is the
food? Let’s take a look!

MENU

As you would expect, this Mexican Restaurant serves — you guessed it — Mexican
cuisine! Disney bills the food at Rancho del Zocalo as “Authentic Mexican”, and
while we slightly disagree, it still has a ton of classic Mexican fare you can
find all over the United States in addition to seasonal agua frescas. This
restaurant also serves bean and cheese burritos and chicken tacos for kids.

©Disney

The big thing here is the price. If you’re on a budget, this quick-service
restaurant should be one of your go-to spots. The pricing is very fair for all
the food you get with each order. But how does the food taste? We have plenty of
thoughts!

EATS

For our review, we tried the Cheese Enchiladas with Red Sauces, Trio of Street
Tacos, Cucumber-mint Agua Fresca, and Cinnamon Crisps.

Everything we tried at Rancho del Zocalo

We started out with the Cheese Enchiladas with Red Sauce and were immediately
blown away. This meal comes with three cheese enchiladas with red sauce and
served with Mexican rice and refried beans for $12.99.

Cheese Enchiladas with Red Sauce

The enchiladas were nice and moist with a bit of a kick from the sauce. The
cheese was packed with flavor and our tortillas were the perfect level of
thickness to hold it all together. We also found the enchiladas to be
well-seasoned and a great recommendation for vegetarians.

The side of beans also had a surprising amount of seasoning, but the texture was
thick and the aftertaste was kind of smoky. While we weren’t huge fans of the
beans, the rice was more of a winner. It had some kick and was a nice
complimentary piece to the enchiladas.

Overall, the price is more than fair and if you don’t mind spicy food, give this
a try!

Cheesy goodness!

Up next is the Trio of Street Tacos for $13.99.  These are served with beef,
chicken, and cauliflower alongside Mexican rice and refried beans.

Trio of Street Tacos

Al tacos were double-layered, which was greatly appreciated. The cauliflower
taco had a nice earthy flavor with a spicy aftertaste and the cilantro and
onions provided a crispy tanginess to create an earthy and sweet blend.

Cauliflower Taco

The beef taco had way more flavor than we were expecting. Moist with some
sweetness, the beefy flavor cuts through the salsa unlike with the cauliflower
taco (which was a little too spicy), making the protein the star of the show.
This was our favorite taco of the three.

Beef Taco

Finally, the chicken taco was the simplest of the three. The cilantro mixed best
with this taco and it wasn’t as spicy as the other two, but it still had a
subtle kick. The chicken was also seasoned nicely and, while simple, got the job
done.

Chicken Taco

A word of warning, generally the salsa on these tacos was pretty hot, even for
us. So if you don’t like the heat, avoid this one in the Rancho del Zocalo
kitchen. Otherwise, we thought the price was pretty fair and the food was solid.
Not as good as local Southern California tacos or the enchiladas, but pretty
good overall.

But how was the dessert? We tried the Cinnamon Crisps for $4.49 and WOW, these
were definitely a highlight!

Cinnamon Crisps

We aren’t joking when we say these had the perfect texture, fantastic crunch, a
liberal amount of cinnamon, were sit-down restaurant quality, and were
incredibly addicting. You get a ton of chips for the price and we would’ve
easily gone back for more. We LOVED this and can’t recommend them enough!

You get PLENTY of crisps!

Finally, we have to talk about our drink — the seasonal Cucumber-mint Agua
Fresca! This drink is made with cucumber agua with a hint of mint for $6.99.

Cucumber-mint Agua Fresca

The mint in this drink was super light and it tasted mostly of cucumber,
especially with the small bits in it. Still, the mint came through enough and
blended well with the cucumber to create a very refreshing, cucumber-mint
julep-like beverage that hit the spot on a hot day. If you don’t like cucumber,
you probably won’t like this, but overall we think it was a very pleasant and
aromatic drink!

Refreshing!

So did Rancho del Zocalo meet our expectations in this most recent review?

OVERALL

Overall, the answer to that question is a resounding YES! Aside from the fact
that the food is very tasty, the pricing of everything was beyond fair and those
enchiladas were outstanding!

Rancho del Zocalo painted mural

While we think the meals can get a bit spicy, if that doesn’t put you off, there
are a lot of great flavors to enjoy here as well as snacks and drinks that are
great if you’re looking to bring something with you on your journey through the
park!

NOSH OR NOT?

Ride on down to Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante if

 * You’re on a budget. Rancho del Zocalo’s prices are fair and the portions are
filling. It’s tough to find better deals anywhere at the Disneyland Resort.
If you have a Magic Key Pass, those prices get even lower.
 * You want a good meal without making reservations. Ample seating and its
tucked-away nature make Rancho del Zocalo a not-so-hidden gem of Disneyland.
It’s usually easy to get a meal and dine here, but there is also some seating
nearby if you experience a rare occasion where seating is hard to find.
 * You’re craving Mexican cuisine. Rancho del Zocalo may not be the best
restaurant in Disneyland, but it goes toe-to-toe with the best quick-service
options the park has to offer. We found the food here to be very tasty and it
fits in with the land theming and Southern California vibes quite well!

Hitch your horse to another restaurant if

 * You can’t handle any spice. The menu’s offerings are pretty spicy by Disney
standards and if you or anyone in your party can’t handle even the smallest
amount of heat, you may want to pass on dining here. You can get the meals
without sauce and salsa and you’ll find the Golden Horseshoe — which serves
affordable standard American fare — just a few steps, but if you want to ere
on the side of caution, it might be wise to give this place a pass.
 * You want an unforgettable experience. Rancho del Zocalo is great, but it
doesn’t hold up to the quality and theming of a place like the Blue Bayou in
New Orleans Square. Also, while the theming is nice, seating is mostly
outside and not specifically Disney-themed. If you want each Disneyland
dining experience to be memorable and are willing to spend a bit more, Rancho
del Zocalo probably shouldn’t be at the top of your list.
 * You have no appetite. Despite being a quick-service restaurant, Rancho del
Zocalo doesn’t skimp on portion size. While you probably won’t be served
enough to share plates, you’ll probably still feel full and satisfied at the
end of the meal. Food carts and other quick-service locations may give you
the smaller amount of food you’re looking for, although the pricing might not
   be as nice, ironically.

WARNING: TONS OF DISNEY ENTERTAINMENT IS ENDING TOMORROW

the disney food blog
By: David Goodkind

Could Disneyland be seeing a massive entertainment shift soon?

Disneyland

When Walt Disney said that Disneyland would never be completed, he was probably
alluding to upgrades and land expansions — an influx of creativity. However,
it’s unlikely he anticipated tons of entertainment leaving Disneyland, with
nothing anticipated to take its place. In fact, this exodus of entertainment
could be getting worse VERY SOON.

Over the last year, Disneyland has cut back on its live entertainment offerings.
After checking out the Disneyland entertainment calendar, we have a suspicion
that the dropoff could get worse.

June 29th, 2024 ©Disney

According to Disneyland’s entertainment calendar, guests visiting Disneyland
should expect a massive entertainment disappearance between June 29th and June
30th.

June 30, 2024 ©Disney

We’ve already seen this trend at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater.
“Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular,” “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion,” and the
Captain America show “Rogers: The Musical” all had their runs ended and now the
theater isn’t showing anything.

Rogers The Musical at the Hyperion Theater

Another red flag came in the form of the announcement that the live dancers and
DJ were being removed from the Club Pixar area of California Adventure.  Club
Pixar is a limited-time offering for Pixar Fest, so the entertainment was always
going to be removed eventually, but Disney attributed the change to “guest
feedback and operational considerations.”

Club Pixar Stage

The entertainment issue got even worse at California Adventure recently with the
surprising cancelation of “Dr. Strange: Mysteries of Mystic Arts” in Avengers
Campus.  That show is currently slated to end in just a couple of days on June
30th. While Dr. Strange is still set to make appearances at Avengers Campus, not
much is known about what will replace the empty space of the Ancient Sanctum,
which hosted the show multiple times a day.

Ancient Sanctum

The surprising entertainment removal of late has come on the heels of the
approval of the unionization of Disneyland character performers on May 18th,
2024. Per Actors’ Equity Association President Kate Shindle, “The next step will
be to collaborate with them about improving health & safety, wages, benefits,
working conditions and job security.”

Iron Man

Speculation has arisen as to whether the unionization led to the cancellation of
these shows, but, predictably, Disney has denied these claims. It’s also
possible that shows like “Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts” could
potentially return after union negotiations are complete, but right now
Disneyland representatives haven’t announced replacement plans.

However, all is not gone. The Avengers Campus show “Warriors of Wakanda: The
Disciplines of the Dora Milaje” may be missing on June 30th, but it is scheduled
to return shortly after.

Warriors of Wakanda: The Disciplines of the Dora Milaje

We’ll keep you posted on any future Disneyland entertainment updates as well as
all the latest Disneyland news, so be sure to stay tuned right here at DFB to
stay in the know!

CONFIRMED: A DISNEY HOTEL CAFE IS OPEN NOW, AND IT’S GOT CHARCUTERIE!

the disney food blog
By: Madeleine Zaharchuk
28 June 2024 at 12:04

OK, Disney fans. We don’t often recommend overpaying for Disney snacks —
especially if they’re just mediocre. But when it comes to coffee — all bets are
off. We need a hit of caffeine to get us going in the morning, and if that means
heading down to the hotel lobby for a cup of coffee, we are willing to spend $6
to $7 for a cup of cold brew. Anyone else?

Lavender Latte, anyone?

Sure, you can brew your own coffee in your Disney hotel room, but nothing
compares to the stuff you can get at a cafe. And for a while, one Disney coffee
shop has been closed, and we’ve been waiting for it to open! But finally, the
time has come. A handy little coffee spot is BACK!

Disney confirmed that The Coffee House is BACK! The Coffee House is open now at
Disneyland Hotel, and it’s got a new menu featuring specialty coffees and an
assortment of small bites and grab-and-go items.

The Coffee House

According to the Disney website, the cafe will be open from 6AM to 4PM.

©Disney

The menu features plenty of classic coffee shop staples, like breakfast
sandwiches and assorted pastries.

©Disney

We spotted a Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich with Egg and Cheese on the breakfast
menu for $8 and a Bagel Pizza with Cheese on the snack menu for $8. We’ll be
honest. That pizza bagel looks like something we’d make at home, and for $8,
we’re a little reluctant to spend the money.

©Disney

There are some bigger snacks available, too, like the Italian Ciabatta Sandwich
with salami, mortadella, bresaola, arugula, provolone and olive tapenade on a
ciabatta roll. The Italian Ciabatta Sandwich is $15. Meanwhile, there’s also a
Caprese & Prosciutto Sandwich for $18, and a Roasted Turkey Sandwich with
roasted turkey, basil mayo, piquillo peppers, and arugula on focaccia bread for
$13.

©Disney

We noticed plenty of sweet treats and desserts, too! This Chocolate Cake is $10.

©Disney

Now, we have to talk about one more menu item that caught our eye. If you’re
willing to spend $36, you can get a large Artisanal Cheese and Charcuterie Board
with assorted artisanal cheeses and premium deli meats with traditional
accompaniments.

©Disney

This place has all kinds of fun surprises! Sure, you might go in expecting to
grab a quick cup of coffee, but we wouldn’t blame you for being tempted by the
alluring call of a charcuterie board. If you stop by, let us know what you
think! Some of the snacks seem a tad overpriced, but hey, it’s Disneyland. In
the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay
tuned for more.

Come with us to Disneyland to check out the resort’s newest restaurant!

Downtown Disney

We headed over to Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District to try its newest
restaurant offering — Din Tai Fung! This award-winning, family-owned restaurant
is known for its dumplings and already has several locations in California. Now,
it’s available at Disneyland!

Din Tai Fung can be found in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington, as well
as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Australia, Europe, and Thailand. The Disneyland location is set to OFFICIALLY
open on July 1st, 2024, but we were able to attend its soft opening just this
week — let’s check it out!

Din Tai Fung

ATMOSPHERE

Din Tai Fung immediately sets itself apart from many other Disneyland and
Downtown Disney restaurants with a more luxurious theming. This restaurant
caters to both park-goers AND those looking for more upscale dining. According
to Disney’s official description, the restaurant stands out with its “dramatic
and contemporary take on a traditional Chinese pavilion rooftop structure.”

Din Tai Fung

Once inside, you’ll immediately see a “suspended, beaded installation over the
circular central bar” as well as “traditional-style Chinese pendants softly
illuminating the space.”

An expo kitchen allows diners to watch dumplings being made, firsthand.

Pretty snazzy!

The restaurant features different dining areas with spacious tables to really
give off the feeling of ample space, and the open concept mixed with a bounty of
large windows really helps illuminate the restaurant and create a welcoming
environment.

©Din Tai Fung

Overall, mixed with some contemporary SoCal music and incredibly helpful and
friendly service (shoutout to our servers, Marc and Daniel!), this restaurant
doesn’t feel too posh but instead felt incredibly welcoming. It fits the theme
of Disney hospitality flawlessly.

MENU

Most Din Tai Fung locations serve various soups, different flavors of dumplings
and buns, wontons, noodles, fried rice, and dessert dumplings filled with
chocolate, red bean paste, or sweet taro.

Menu

The restaurant is famous for its Xiao Long Bao (steamed pork soup dumplings),
and these are heavily recommended by the waitstaff. As for the menu in general,
the pricing is surprisingly fair for the quality. Most items range from $10 to
$20 and can be shared.

How to eat xiao long bao!

Part of the fun of this menu is picking a plethora of items via a Dim Sum menu
and having them brought out in waves. The portion sizes allow these to be great
meals to be shared amongst a party and we think this menu caters better to
larger groups than solo diners, although you’ll likely still be satisfied if you
eat alone.

Dim Sum menu

With tons of promise and good word of mouth, we couldn’t wait to dive in!

EATS

We tried the Cucumber Salad, Sweet & Sour Baby Back Ribs, Kurobuta Pork Xiao
Long Bao, Shrimp and Pork Spicy Wontons, Noodles in Sesame Sauce, Chocolate and
Mochi Xiao Long Bao, Kurobuta Pork Buns, Chicken Dumplings, Honey Lemonade with
Boba, and Cucumber Gimlet. It’s safe to say we were stuffed!

Din Tai Fung spread

First up, we have the Cucumber Salad for $9. This appetizer is gluten-free and
vegan and is made with crisp Persian cucumbers combined with cuts of mild Fresno
chili peppers and sliced garlic all tossed together with sesame and Din Tai Fung
chili oils.

Cucumber Salad

This cucumber salad was very refreshing! The portion size was surprisingly hefty
and the cucumber cuts were thick. There was a little bit of a kick from the
sauce, but, all in all, it was super flavorful and never overpowering. We also
found the peanut flavor created a nice blend among the cucumber, which is a
theme that will pop up again and again.

Refreshing!

The Sweet & Sour Baby Back Ribs cost $16.50 and are coated with house-made sweet
and sour sauce.

Sweet & Sour Baby Back Ribs

Our ribs were cooked perfectly and definitely had that sweet and sour flavor.
The pork was rich and the serving size was plentiful. The ribs were lighter in
taste than we expected, avoiding in-your-face flavors and opting for something
lighter. Still, we recommend you have a craving for sweet and sour pork,
otherwise these might put you off.

Very good serving size

Next, we tried the Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao for $18.50. These carefully
crafted Long Bao are stuffed with Kurobuta pork marinated in a blend of
seasonings and paired with fresh ginger and green onion.

Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao

These Long Bao are meant to be paired with the provided condiments, and we
totally understand — they’re just okay on their own. Our dumplings didn’t have a
ton of broth, which was unfortunate. Still, the bao was light, tasty, and the
pork and vegetable mix was quite nice and filling. Once again the portion size
is more than fair and we think this is a great sharable dish.

We would’ve liked a bit more broth

The Shrimp and Pork Spicy Wontons cost $17 and are made with freshly-peeled
shrimp and Kurobuta pork served with the signature house spicy sauce and topped
with garlic and green onion.

Wontons

These wontons were spicy but came as more of an after-kick instead of
overpowering upon first bite. We think they were really tasty, with a super
fragrant sauce and a seamless protein blend. The shrimp was delicious
especially, and the wontons were light and fluffy, packed with tons of protein.
These guys really are spicy though, so a word of caution.

Shrimp and Pork Spicy Wontons

The Noodles in Sesame Sauce cost $13 and include house-made thin egg noodles
coated in a nutty sesame sauce and topped with chili oil and crushed roasted
peanuts.

Noodles in Sesame Sauce

If you don’t like spicy food, you probably won’t like these noodles. However,
the peanut flavor was so earthy and excellent — easily our favorite part of the
dish. The noodles were packed with flavor, thick, and very shareable.

Peanuts were the star here

The Kurobuta Pork Buns cost $10 and are served in two pieces.

Kurobuta Pork Buns

We think these buns are a must-order! The meat was cooked perfectly, the bun was
soft and almost a little sweet, and these were some of our favorites from our
meal.

YUM!

Next, we tried the Chicken Dumplings for $18. One order gives you 10 dumplings.

Chicken Dumplings

These dumplings are hand-folded and filled with premium chicken and sweet
onions. Super juicy (but not slimy) with a great texture, we found these
dumplings to have a good portion of chicken inside that was packed with flavor.

One of our favs!

To drink, we tried the non-alcoholic Honey Lemonade with Boba. The drink without
boba costs $7.50 and boba costs $1.50. The lemonade is made to order with
crushed ice, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a drizzle of honey. The boba
consists of chewy tapioca pearls mixed with brown sugar and honey.

The boba was very thick and chewy while the lemonade was refreshingly tart and
sweet!

Honey Lemonade with Boba

We also tried the Cucumber Gimlet for $16. This drink is made with Roku Gin, St.
Germain, fresh lime juice, fresh cucumber, and mint.

Our Cucumber Gimlet was delicious! Very cucumbery, light, refreshing, and just
enough kick from the gin, we can see this as a popular summer drink. The mint
really added to the cucumber, creating something akin to a Disney julep. The
drink was very natural in flavor and is a must-try if you love cucumber drinks!

Cucumber Gimlet

For dessert, we tried the Chocolate and Mochi Xiao Long Bao per recommendation
from our server. This chocolate dessert costs $11.50 and comes with five
pieces. It’s made with premium chocolate truffle inside a thin layer of mochi,
all wrapped in 18 folds.

Chocolate and Mochi Xiao Long Bao

Shoutout again to Marc for recommending these — it’s nearly impossible to
describe just how good this dessert is, but we’ll try! Each bite contains a
delicious lava flow of amazingly decadent chocolate. They are small in stature,
but they pack a powerful punch. The chocolate never tasted too rich, but the
quality was extraordinary — almost like delicious chocolate fondue. Creamy,
warm, and absolutely delicious, this dessert is a must-try. This is already some
of the best chocolate you’ll find at the Disneyland Resort and we WILL return to
Din Tai Fung for these, on top of many other dishes!

Thanks, I’ll take 100

It’s safe to say we enjoyed our meal at Din Tai Fung, so let’s get into our
overall thoughts

OVERALL

The Disneyland location for Din Tai Fung meets the quality standard that it has
accumulated around the globe. Upscale but not pretentious and a fantastic Dim
Sum restaurant, we’ll keep coming back for more, hands down.

Din Tai Fung

The waitstaff was super kind, knowledgeable, and on it, and the dining
experience is unique at Disneyland. While it can get kind of loud and may not be
the most budget-friendly dining option, Din Tai Fung is worth visiting at least
once at Downtown Disney!

NOSH OR NOT?

Take a stroll down Downtown Disney to Din Tai Fung if

 * You want great dumplings. Aside from festivals, you’re not going to get this
kind of food consistently in the parks.
 * You want a unique sit-down experience. This isn’t typical American fare and
can take you out of the theme park experience and put you into a fine dining
   setting.
 * You have an appetite and are willing to share. Din Tai Fung provides a menu
ideal for sharing. If you want to try a bunch of different dishes in one
meal, this is the place for you.

Skip Din Tai Fung if

 * You visit another location regularly. Din Tai Fung is not exclusive to
Disneyland, so if you’re looking for something truly unique, try a
Disneyland-exclusive restaurant like the Blue Bayou.
 * You’re in a hurry. Dining at most sit-down restaurants at the Disneyland
Resort will take a chunk out of your day. Also, being located in Downtown
Disney, you can’t just hop on a ride immediately after your meal.
Fortunately, Disneyland has plenty of other options that will save you time.
 * You’re on a budget. Din Tai Fung’s prices are reasonable, but it’s easy to
rack up a bill fast if you keep ordering items to share. It’s definitely
possible to eat here without breaking the bank, but you need to be
   price-conscious while ordering.

REVIEW: WE’RE REVISITING AN ICONIC DISNEY RESTAURANT TO SEE IF IT STILL LIVES UP
TO THE HYPE

the disney food blog

Is there anything better than Disneyland food?!

Blue Bayou

The correct answer is no! But seriously though, Disneyland food is just a step
above the rest and we’ve had some of our favorite treats and eats there.
Speaking of eats, we thought we’d head back and check in with one of our
favorite spots and see how it’s fairing these days. Let’s grab a bite to eat at
Blue Bayou!

If you’ve even been hungry in Disneyland and looked for food that isn’t just the
typical corn dogs and pretzels, you’ve probably thought about grabbing a bite at
the Blue Bayou Restaurant.

Blue Bayou

You’ll find this restaurant tucked into a corner of Disneyland’s New Orleans
Square and it offers Cajun and Creole-inspired cuisine. We love this restaurant
and it had been far too long since our last visit, so we knew we had to come in
and enjoy some of their eats.

ATMOSPHERE

Guess what? When you dine at Blue Bayou, you get to dine on the shore of a New
Orleans bayou! That’s right! Also, it’s not just any bayou. It’s actually one
where you can watch boats from Pirates of the Caribbean passing by while you
fight your food coma from all the delicious Cajun and Creole foods.

Blue Bayou

The vibes are excellent. It totally has dark, moody lighting that 100%
transports you to a New Orleans swamp at night.

Truly a blue bayou!

You’ll find that you’re eating in a courtyard. There are wrought-iron chairs and
hanging paper lanterns overhead.

Seating

Pro-tip: If you want the “best” views while you eat, make sure to request a
table by the water when you check in. (It’s not guaranteed that they can
accommodate, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.)

You can get great views of Pirates of the Caribbean

Now that you can feel the atmosphere, let’s have a look at the menu.

MENU

As we said, there is an entire world of Cajun and Creole-inspired dishes on this
menu for you to enjoy. For starters, some of the standouts are the Chicken Gumbo
and the Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad.

Blue Bayou menu

You’ll definitely find filling entrĂ©es here like a Blackened Ribeye, Oscar-style
Filet Mignon, Sustainable Market Fish, Creole Roasted Chicken, and a Pistachio
Lemon-Basil Pasta. Also, you’ll find a decent selection of wine, cocktails,
beer, and a few non-alcoholic drinks as well.

You’ll find plenty of hearty eats as well as cocktails

For dessert, you can choose from a CrÚme Brûlée Tart, Chocolate Basque
Cheesecake, Petite Sundae, and Assorted Macarons.

Dessert menu

The kids menu at Blue Bayou is pretty straightforward (really not too much to
write home about) but sometimes you can’t beat a simple menu for the kiddos.

Kids Menu

Alright, enough reading about food. It’s time to eat!

EATS

Ultimately, we decided to try the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad as our
starter, the Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta as our entrée, and the CrÚme Brûlée
Tart as our dessert.

Let’s start with the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad which is made with
Greens, Agave Crema, and Pickled Watermelon Rind & Shallot Vinaigrette and will
set you back by $15.

Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad

What we liked most about this was how light and refreshing it was. Everything
tasted really fresh especially the tomatoes and greens. The tomatoes were juicy,
sweet, and full of flavor. The shallot vinaigrette wasn’t the most special (it
just added a tangy and vinegary taste).

Refreshing!

Also, the watermelon didn’t have a whole lot of flavor and there wasn’t much of
it in the salad either.

Next, we set our eyes on the Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta, which is made with
Asparagus, Squash Blossoms, Pea Tendrils, and Cherry Tomatoes in Pistachio-Basil
Pesto and will cost you $29.

Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta

This dish was simple and tasty. The pasta was cooked perfectly and had hints of
basil and light lemon flavor throughout. It was also a generous portion of
pasta.

This was a surprising winner!

The pistachio flavor wasn’t the strongest. You could really only taste it if you
happened to get a bite that had some of the chopped-up pistachio that was put on
top. The cherry tomatoes added a refreshing and sweet flavor to the pasta. Oh
how we wish there were more of them!

Last but not least, we had to entertain our sweet tooth with a CrÚme Brûlée Tart
which was Vanilla Bean CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e in a Tart Shell and it’ll run you $10.

CrÚme Brûlée Tart

The berries were sweet and fresh which went well with the rich vanilla bean
flavor. The top did have a caramel and burnt sugar taste. The tart shell tasted
like shortbread and had a crumbly shortbread texture.

DELICIOUS!

We seriously wished the portion was larger because it was delicious and at $10
we felt a little slighted.

OVERALL

Overall, we loved our time here. Our server was great (very personable, quick,
and helpful). All of our food came out quickly and it was all fresh and well
prepared.

Blue Bayou is truly unique

The restaurant’s location and ambiance are some of the best on the property.
It’s definitely one of the pricier options at Disneyland, but for the experience
and food quality, it’s worth doing at least once.

NOSH OR NOT?

Stop by Blue Bayou if

 * You want to get away from the crowds and have a nice and relaxing meal.
 * Celebrating a special occasion and wanting your meal in one of the
   best-themed restaurants.
 * You’re a Pirates of the Caribbean fan since the boats travel right through
the restaurant (also it’s one of the last projects Walt worked on)

You’ll probably want to find another place to dine if

 * You’re looking to dine on a tighter budget.
 * You want a quick meal.
 * You have little kids and want to take them somewhere with a more substantial
   kids’ menu.

We’re always looking for all the latest menu changes and additions to
restaurants around Disneyland so we can keep you updated. Until then, stay tuned
with us at Disney Food Blog for even more!

NEWS: TICKETS SOLD OUT FAST FOR THE FIRST NIGHT OF DISNEY’S OOGIE BOOGIE BASH

the disney food blog
By: Brian Delpozo
25 June 2024 at 13:49

Getting Oogie Boogie Bash tickets was an adventure.

Oogie Boogie

Disneyland Resort’s Oogie Boogie Bash — the resort’s premier Halloween event —
begins on August 25th this year and transforms Disneyland into a spooky party.
Tickets went on sale for some Magic Key holders today (June 25th), but getting
them was not a smooth process! Several dates SOLD OUT incredibly quickly.

Ticket sales for the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash are staggered, with Inspire Magic
Key holders having access to tickets on June 25th, other Magic Key holders on
June 26th, and finally the general public on June 27th. In theory, that should
have made the ticket-buying practice easy. In reality, it was a bit of a roller
coaster.

We logged on right on time on June 25th
only to encounter Disney’s system
apparently running late. When we finally got in, we were given an estimated wait
time queue. Pretty standard so far. However, it was once that ended that things
began to get wonky.

The waiting is the hardest part

Tickets for certain party nights were selling out very quickly, with October
13th being the first to show as sold out. Meanwhile, we were trying for opening
night — August 25th — which was still showing tickets available but wasn’t
allowing us to select them. After securing tickets for August 27th, we decided
to experiment a bit and refresh the page. Now, August 25th, as well as September
15th, 22nd, 6th, and 12th were registering as sold out.

The status of dates was fluctuating with every refresh

However, after ANOTHER refresh, Sept 15th and 22nd were once again showing
tickets available, but now September 29th, Oct 3rd, 6th, 10th, 13th, and 17th
were all showing as sold out.

Ooogie Boogie Dates

The moral of the story? If you’re trying for Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, keep
refreshing as there definitely seem to be some bugs in Disney’s system.

Here’s to hoping they’re worked out before the next two sales over the next few
days.

It’s possible that Disney has reserved just a certain portion of all available
tickets for the first night (and other nights) for Magic Key holders, so the
general public will still have a chance to buy tickets for those dates when they
go on sale on June 27th. We’ll be watching for more updates over the next couple
of days!

Stay tuned to DFB for further Oogie Boogie coverage.

DIN TAI FUNG OPENING, PLUS MORE THIS SUMMER IN DOWNTOWN DISNEY DISTRICT

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
21 June 2024 at 12:00

As we usher in sweet summertime, it’s a great time to share the latest about
what’s new and what’s coming to the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland
Resort! More dining, shopping and seasonal fun add up to a summer you won’t want
to miss.

DIN TAI FUNG OPENS SOON!

Din Tai Fung, a global restaurant company known for the art of Xiao Long Bao and
excellence in hospitality, is opening its first-ever standalone restaurant in
the Downtown Disney District. The restaurant will be serving guests a limited
menu for its soft opening beginning June 24, 2024, while it prepares for its
official grand opening in July. The new restaurant will be the only freestanding
Din Tai Fung location built from the ground up, infused with architectural and
design elements that pay homage to the company’s Taiwanese heritage.

The new restaurant’s exterior is a dramatic, contemporary take on a traditional
Chinese pavilion rooftop structure. A suspended, beaded installation over the
circular central bar greets guests upon entering the restaurant, with
traditional style Chinese pendants softly illuminating the space. An expo
kitchen will serve as a backdrop, inviting guests to witness the artistry behind
the dumpling-making process firsthand.

And I can’t wait to try
everything! From their signature soup dumplings that
are handcrafted with an 18-fold process, to their wontons, noodles, steamed
buns, bok choy, pork chop fried rice and other flavorful dishes served family
style.

For reservations, please visit Din Tai Fung’s website.

Coming soon for a limited time to celebrate the grand opening, Din Tai Fung will
be releasing two new, limited collections of brand apparel and accessories,
available for purchase at the Downtown Disney District location while supplies
last.

To support the Orange County community, Din Tai Fung will be a proud sponsor of
the 2024 CHOC Walk in the Park, presented by Disneyland Resort. The restaurant
is donating $50,000 to the annual event taking place July 21, which brings the
community together to raise funds for programs, education and research for
patients at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

RESERVATIONS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE NEW PASEO AND CÉNTRICO

Have you had a chance to visit the newly opened Paseo, Céntrico and Tiendita?
Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán’s three distinctive menus and settings are
influenced by his homeland in the heart of Mexico, combined with his love of
French culinary style and techniques. You can now make reservations
for Paseo and Céntrico on Disneyland.com or through the Disneyland app,
and Tiendita offers authentic Mexican street food on-the-go from a self-ordering
kiosk.

JULY BRINGS BUBBLES!

Bubble fans, there will be even more bubbles to love this summer! The Bubbles
Experience at Downtown Disney District presented by Disney Jr.’s Ariel will take
place from noon-4 p.m. daily from July 1-31, 2024, with a bubble moment every
half hour and a DJ hosting at the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage and lawn. So fun!

WELCOME TO DOWNTOWN DISNEY, AT A NEW ENTRANCE!

When arriving at the west end of the district, you’ll now be greeted at
an all-new entrance, with a mid-century modern design that blends with the new
Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage. The area also features an eye-catching new art
wall, which is currently displaying a new mural by Nikkolas Smith. Nearby,
Nikkolas also designed a sculptural tower at the stage that pays tribute to
pioneering Black architects in Southern California during the mid-20th century.

WONDERGROUND GALLERY REOPENS IN TEMPORARY SPACE

During the transformation of Downtown Disney District, WonderGround Gallery has

PLANDISNEY TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR DISNEYLAND RESORT HOTEL

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
21 June 2024 at 11:00

Pack your bags and get ready to check in to the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort
on this month’s episode of the planDisney Podcast! There are three hotels at
Disneyland Resort, and each offers a truly unique vacation experience.

Not sure which hotel is best for your travel party? Join us on Apple Podcasts,
Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts to hear panelists Amanda D. and
Prince S. break down the offerings at each hotel – from theming and room types
to dining and recreation.

WHY STAY AT DISNEYLAND RESORT?

Staying at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort is the key to maximizing
the magic. Amanda loves that all three hotels are a quick walk to and from the
theme parks and the Downtown Disney District, making it easy and convenient to
get around with her little ones.

For Prince, it’s all about early entry!* Entering a designated theme park 30
minutes early allows him to get a head start on his day at the park and
experience select attractions and more before the park opens to day guests.

Tune into the podcast to hear about even more special perks for hotel guests,
and check out the events calendar to see what activities and entertainment
offerings are happening during your visit.

EXPERIENCE ANIMATED ARTISTRY AT PIXAR PLACE HOTEL

The first and only Pixar-themed hotel in the United States is now open! The
panelists share an overview of all there is to see and do when you stay at Pixar
Place Hotel. Amanda is excited to grab a sandwich from Small Bytes to enjoy by
the “Finding Nemo”-inspired pool deck, while Prince is eager to sign up for a
Learn to Draw class and embrace his inner artist.

As you explore all this hotel has to offer, keep an eye out for familiar Pixar
friends! You might hear Joe Gardner playing soulful tunes in the lobby or catch
our favorite imaginary friend Bing Bong making core memories up on the rooftop
lawn!

CELEBRATE DISNEYLAND PAST AND PRESENT AT DISNEYLAND HOTEL

If you love Disney parks history like Prince, you’ll love staying at Disneyland
Hotel! The panelists share how this hotel pays homage to the classic years of
Disneyland park, from whimsical rooms and suites down to the Monorail-themed
slides and the E-Ticket pool.

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, the new Disney Vacation Club tower at Disneyland
Hotel, is home to a variety of room types inspired by classic Disney films. This
new addition is a favorite among guests and Members alike and opened with new
amenities like the Palm Breeze Bar, which Amanda says is the perfect place to
grab a quick bite or refreshing beverage.

RELAX IN CRAFTSMAN-STYLE ELEGANCE AT DISNEY’S GRAND CALIFORNIAN HOTEL & SPA

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the perfect place to relax and
recharge after a day in the theme parks. The panelists share a glimpse of the
Craftsman-style rooms and suites, exquisite dining experiences and peaceful pool
areas at this hotel.

Amanda says the Tenaya Stone Spa is not to be missed. Treat yourself to a
signature spa service or sign up for one of the unique fitness class offerings.
Did someone say sunrise yoga in Disneyland park? You’ll have to tune in to find
out!

*Each day a designated Theme Park will be open early. Each registered hotel
guest (age 3 and older) must have valid park admission, park reservation, and
hotel room key card for early entry park admission. Applicable theme park, days
and times of operation, and attractions, experiences, and offerings for the
early entry benefit may vary, be subject to availability, capacity, change and
cancellation without notice, and are not guaranteed. Both Theme Park admission
and park reservation for Disney California Adventure park are required for park
entry at the special entrance for Pixar Place Hotel guests, and a hotel
reservation does not guarantee theme park access.

13 HALLOWEEN AND FALL FAVORITES RETURNING TO DISNEYLAND RESORT

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
20 June 2024 at 10:00

Calling all fans of ghoulish gatherings! Prepare, if you dare, for the upcoming
spooktacular Halloween season at Disneyland Resort, running Aug. 23 through Oct.
31, 2024 (and through Nov. 2, 2024, for Plaza de la Familia)!

Read on for 13 must-see fall favorites, including the return of Haunted Mansion
Holiday, the added daytime offering of “Mickey’s Trick and Treat” show, on-sale
dates and details for Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party and so much
more.

1. HAUNTED MANSION HOLIDAY REOPENS WITH VIRTUAL QUEUE

Foolish mortals, you’ll be able to socialize with Santa Jack again soon, just in
time for the fall season! Jack Skellington and the Halloween Town denizens have
put a spell on the eerie estate with the merry makeover known as Haunted Mansion
Holiday, inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.” As the
attraction’s reimagined queue experience continues to materialize, Haunted
Mansion Holiday will be available via virtual queue only when it reopens.

Fiendish fans of this trick-filled transformation are clamoring for a glimpse of
this year’s all-new ghoulish gingerbread creation that decorates the dining
room, and we’re happy to oblige with this little sneak peek.

2. MICKEY MOUSE AND FRIENDS DEBUT NEW FALL LOOKS

Don’t miss your chance to pose for a photo at Disneyland park with Mickey Mouse,
Minnie Mouse and their friends dressed for the season in new festive attire
featuring skeleton inspirations and colorful patchwork patterns.

3. ‘MICKEY’S TRICK AND TREAT’ SHOW BRINGS FAMILY-FUN ENTERTAINMENT

Available for the first time ever as a daily offering during the season, the
interactive “Mickey’s Trick and Treat” show encourages younger guests to join in
a not-so-spooky sing and dance-along with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse at the
Disney Theater in Disney California Adventure park. With colorful projections
and a lively host dressed as a mad scientist, it’s a happy haunting you’ll not
soon forget!

4. ‘HALLOWEEN SCREAMS’ RETURNS TO DISNEYLAND PARK

Each night, you will receive a dreadfully delightful treat in the form of
“Halloween Screams,” a nighttime spectacular featuring supernatural projections
and other ghostly special effects viewable from in front of Sleeping Beauty
Castle, “it’s a small world” facade, Rivers of America and along Main Street,
U.S.A., in Disneyland park.

On select nights, “Halloween Screams” haunts the skies above Sleeping Beauty
Castle as well, enhancing its seasonal mischief with fireworks.

5.  SEASONAL DÉCOR ABOUNDS THROUGHOUT DISNEYLAND RESORT

The Main Street Pumpkin Festival returns to Disneyland park, anchored by the
iconic Mickey Pumpkin. When you stroll through this charming thoroughfare,
you’ll be greeted by cleverly carved gorgeous gourds decorating doorways,
porches and windows.

On Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park, Halloween motifs add
to the ambiance, while the rider of an equine apparition, the Headless Horseman,
appears to light each night’s darkening skies with his very own jack-o-lantern
head!

The autumnal theming will also continue in the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort
and Downtown Disney District, where guests will find festive touches
throughout.

6. RAMBLE THROUGH RADIATOR SCREAMS

In Disney California Adventure, the rambunctious residents of Cars Land put the
nuts and bolts into their Haul-O-Ween outfits and changed Radiator Springs into
Radiator Screams with a ghoulish array of décor and the transformation of two
family-friendly attractions.

Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters pump up their
soundtracks with a wicked groove and become Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and
Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

7. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY – MONSTERS AFTER DARK SPARKS SCREAMS

Each twilight, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! transforms into
Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark, releasing menacing monsters and
free-roaming fiends among its wickedly thrilling drops.

The Guardians have successfully escaped the Collector’s Fortress, but have
accidentally left Groot behind, so Rocket needs your help to distract the
creatures that have been released, so he can rescue Groot in this exciting
seasonal overlay.

8. DASTARDLY DELICIOUS SIP & BITES ARRIVE TO TANTALIZE TASTE BUDS

Treat yourself to delectable, themed treats. Dining locations throughout the
Disneyland Resort will serve up new and returning seasonal items for every
palate.

Disney Eats will reveal all the fall fare closer to the season, but if you just
can’t wait, here’s a little taste of what you can look forward to. Returning for
the 2024 season, you can enjoy the Halloween funnel cake at Stage Door Café in
Disneyland park and the al pastor tacos inspired by “Coco” at Paradise Garden
Grill in Disney California Adventure park!

9. NEW MERCHANDISE MATERIALIZES

It’s not a frightfully festive fall without the latest Disneyland Resort
Halloween merchandise including apparel, accessories, headwear and other
spirited garb, which will be available this fall throughout Disneyland Resort
and on DisneyStore.com.

Fashions inspired by Pixar Animation Studios’ “Coco” will be a great fit for
this year’s Plaza de la Familia festivities, and you won’t want to miss Oogie
Boogie Bash merchandise which will also be available.

10. PLAZA DE LA FAMILIA CELEBRATES DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS

Inspired by the traditions of DĂa de los Muertos, Plaza de la Familia brings
music, vibrant décor, festive foods and exciting live entertainment to Disney
California Adventure park through Nov. 2, 2024.

You can’t miss the iconic “Árbol de la Vida” (Tree of Life) photo location and
memory wall.

And if you’re a fan of Plaza de la Familia, you know that the heart of this
offering is a musical celebration of Pixar’s “Coco,” which emphasizes the
everlasting bonds of family. This year the heartwarming show has a new name and
story, along with newly designed costumes. It will be performed several times
daily.

After the show, snap a selfie with the hand-animated figure of Miguel from
“Coco.”

11. GOOFY’S KITCHEN AND STORYTELLERS CAFE SERVE UP FESTIVE FARE

If you love the fall season and dining with favorite Disney characters, you
can’t miss Goofy’s Kitchen with a Halloween twist! Goofy and his pals will don
their seasonal outfits for a dining experience like no other at Disneyland
Hotel.

At Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Storytellers Cafe will conjure an
all-new autumn-inspired breakfast and brunch, complete with seasonal décor and
characters debuting new festive looks.

Keep an eye on Disneyland.com for reservation details, coming soon.

12. PLUTO’S PUMPKIN PURSUIT PROVIDES SCARY GOOD FAMILY FUN

Beginning in September, Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit is an activity the whole family
can enjoy, as you set off to search for Disney character-themed pumpkins hidden
throughout the Downtown Disney District and, for the first time, Disneyland park

MATTERHORN BOBSLEDS TURNS 65 AT DISNEYLAND

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
14 June 2024 at 08:00

This week, one of the most beloved attractions in Disney history, the Matterhorn
Bobsleds, marks its 65th anniversary at Disneyland Resort. And to celebrate,
we’ve dug up a batch of fascinating historical photos that may just make you
yell – Yodel-Lay-Hee-Hoo!

WALT TO IMAGINEERS: “BUILD THIS”

The idea for the iconic Matterhorn Bobsleds really started during a 1950s trip
to Switzerland.

As many of you know, Walt and his wife Lillian enjoyed Switzerland, as you can
see in the above classic photo from the Walt Disney Family Museum. Walt fell in
love with the country’s breathtaking landscape, especially the Matterhorn
mountain – known as the “jewel of the Swiss Alps.”

In 1958, when Walt was in Switzerland, the giant, jagged tooth-shaped Matterhorn
mountain — as well as the Disney film, “Third Man of the Mountain” (being filmed
at the Matterhorn) — delivered a flash of inspiration.

During the trip, the often-recalled story goes that Walt sent a postcard back
home to his Disney Imagineers featuring a picture of the mountain and the words
“BUILD THIS” on the back.

Plans to bring this mountain to California began after Walt’s Switzerland trip –
as you can see above in this vintage photo of Walt with a model of the
attraction.

While Matterhorn mountain towers over all that surrounds it in Switzerland at
nearly 14,700 feet, it was determined that the Disneyland version would be built
to roughly 1/100th scale, or 147 feet.

Initially, Walt asked his designers to consider transforming Holiday Hill (a
small mound between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland) into Snow Hill, which would
feature real snow. As the project grew, Snow Hill became the proposed Snow
Mountain, and then eventually – Matterhorn mountain.

MATTERHORN BOBSLEDS ATTRACTION MAKES HISTORY

At opening on June 14, 1959, the world had never seen anything like the
Matterhorn Bobsleds. The Disneyland attraction was the first roller coaster in
the world to use a tubular steel track and a unique electronic dispatch system
that allowed more than one car at a time to be on the track.

It was an immediate game-changer and set the standard for modern-day roller
coasters.

The attraction was part of the first major expansion at Disneyland since the
park’s debut in 1955.

During the design and construction, Walt and Disney Imagineers wanted guests to
be able to enjoy the view of the Matterhorn, similar to how someone would view
it in Switzerland, so a unique station with a view was created where you wait to
board the bobsleds.

For the attraction, Imagineers also created a picturesque tower, inspired by a
famous clock tower near Switzerland’s Matterhorn mountain. Besides the mountain
itself, the clock tower is likely the most famous sight in the area, and it
added a familiar scene of Switzerland’s famed chalets to Disneyland.

In this photo of the attraction from the archives, you’ll notice shields
representing the cantons, or states, in Switzerland.

The opposite side of the building has fanciful alpine-style cutouts edged in
brightly colored paints. The design features colors and motifs found in
traditional Swiss embroidery designs.

If you’ve experienced it, you know you swoop in and out of shadowy caves along
jagged rocky ledges, darting through snowy chutes and by frozen precipices
before splashing down into an alpine lake.

And there are historical details to see, including mountaineering supplies and
collected treasures from the past. There’s also a tribute to Frank Wells — the
former President and Chief Operating Officer of The Walt Disney Company — to
spot while whizzing through the Matterhorn caverns.

Of course, there’s the Abominable Snowman — a fan-favorite since being added to
the attraction in 1978. When he received a transformation in 2015, Walt Disney
Imagineering wanted to ensure that the mountain’s most famous resident would
maintain a realistic look, consulting with an anthropologist.

You can conquer Matterhorn Bobsleds and its mythic monster this summer at
Disneyland park. Here are 2024 details on what’s happening and how you can save
on a Disneyland Resort trip from our earlier story.

We hope you enjoyed this fun look at the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland. The
iconic attraction is truly one-of-a-kind — no other Disney park can claim a
Matterhorn mountain!

As we continue to dig into our archives for even more of these types of stories
in the future, let us know what you’d like to see next. And then, be sure to
keep checking back right here on the Disney Parks Blog.

CAST COUPLE HONEYMOONS FOR 24 DAYS AT EVERY DISNEY PARK

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
24 May 2024 at 11:00

For Donald Isbell and Nika Ogden, two cast members from Disneyland Resort, their
mutual passion for Disney wasn’t the only reason they fell in love. However, it
was the reason that inspired them to pack their bags and visit every Disney Park
around the world
in 24 days.

Donald, a workforce data solutions analyst, met Nika, an Adventureland cast
member, three years ago. After saying, “I do” on April 6, 2024, Donald and Nika
set off to make their dream honeymoon come true.

Donald and Nika cruise up to the Disneyland Hotel in style after their wedding
reception on April 6.

One wedding, three continents, and 24 days was what it took for Donald and Nika
to visit every Disney Park around the world for the ultimate Disney experience.
Between complimentary admission to nearly every Disney Park and numerous
discounts along the way, the couple says their Disney cast member perks
encouraged them to celebrate their honeymoon in such a magical way.

Honeymoons.

The global journey began hours after the couple’s wedding where the newlyweds
kicked off their celebration at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. To make
their day even more special, Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons stepped
in to create some magical moments for the couple.

The honeymoon park hopping began the very next morning right in Donald and
Nika’s backyard. The two cast members set out on a mission to ride all the major
Disneyland Resort attractions that are also found at other parks around
the world. From Space Mountain to Jungle Cruise, Donald and Nika were determined
to do it all.

Disneyland Ambassadors Jada and Raul congratulate the couple and send them off
with a special bon voyage at Sleeping Beauty Castle on April 7.

In appreciation of the couple’s dedication to making magic, Disney Ambassadors
of Disneyland Resort Jada Young and Raul Aquino Rojas met with Nika and Donald
on the first day of their honeymoon in Disneyland park. The Disney Ambassadors
celebrated the couple with a hand delivered note from Disneyland Resort
President Ken Potrock! Ken’s note congratulated the couple on their big day and
wished them safe travels ahead.

From there, Donald and Nika set off for a jam-packed three weeks,
visiting Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Paris and Orlando while soaking up every
bit of Disney magic each experience had to offer.

Donald and Nika explore a number of Disney Park offerings around the world.

From making Winnie the Pooh shaped dim sum in a Disney cooking class in Hong
Kong Disneyland, to viewing the “Disney Electrical Sky Parade” with over 500
drones at Disneyland Paris, to experiencing the Behind the Seeds tour in the
Living with the Land attraction at EPCOT in Walt Disney World, Donald and Nika
had the opportunity to make one-of-a-kind memories while truly getting to know
cast members in all parts of the globe. The couple was even greeted with a
personal note from Walt Disney World Resort President Jeff Vahle in Orlando,
congratulating them on their special celebration. “Every time we saw a cast
member, it’s like we met our friends in other places,” explained Donald. “Even
if we don’t speak the same language or we don’t work the same attractions or we
don’t work at the same parks, everybody’s coming to Disney for the same thing.
We’re all still cast members.”

Donald and Nika smile with the Disney Global Ambassador teams at each Disney
Park.

To make Donald and Nika’s celebration extra special, the Disney Global
Ambassador team united worldwide to show the couple each Disney Park through the
eyes of a fellow cast member. With some Disney Ambassador magic, Donald and Nika
experienced all that World of Frozen in Hong Kong has to offer, explored the
Castle Club at the Disneyland Hotel in Paris, shared heartfelt conversations
with all the Disney Ambassadors and so much more alongside their newest
friends.

“Meeting [Disney Ambassadors Serena and Shannon] in Orlando was really cool,”
said Donald. “We had a heart-to-heart where we walked down [Main Street, U.S.A.]
and talked about careers and the different things we experienced at each park.
They’re both wonderful people and had lots of kind words for us.”

Donald and Nika capture their memories on camera at each Disney Park.

With a camera roll full of memories and hearts filled with love, Donald and Nika
share that the magic Disney made for them on their honeymoon journey truly made
it an extraordinary trip. They assure that this is just the start of a lifetime
of dreams come true
together.

Donald and Nika celebrate the final few hours of their wedding day at the
Disneyland Hotel on April 6.

DISNEY EATS: 7 GREENS GUMBO WITH CHICKEN & ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE RECIPE FROM TIANA’S
PALACE

Disney Parks Blog
By: The Editors
23 May 2024 at 14:00

We’re getting close to the summer opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic
Kingdom Park, and later this year at Disneyland park. To celebrate, the culinary
team from Tiana’s Palace at Disneyland park shared a recipe with us for 7 Greens
Gumbo with Chicken & Andouille Sausage. I had the chance to test this unique
(and delicious) recipe at home!

Roasted vegetables, seasoned chicken, andouille sausage and cannellini beans
come together with seven different greens to create a hearty and flavorful dish.
If you want the 7 Greens Gumbo to be a plant-based dish, it can easily be served
without the chicken and andouille sausage.

All this talk about gumbo is making me hungry, so it’s time to share the recipe
with you. Let’s get to it!

7 GREENS GUMBO WITH CHICKEN AND ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE

Tiana’s Palace

Disneyland Park

Serves 4

ROASTED VEGETABLES

 * 1 cup diced sweet potatoes
 * 1 cup diced yams
 * 1 cup sliced okra
 * 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
 * Salt and pepper, to taste

CHICKEN AND ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE

 * 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
 * 12 ounces mild andouille sausage, sliced
 * 1/2 pound boneless chicken thighs, diced
 * 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning mix

GUMBO

 * 2 (15 1/2 ounce) cans cannellini beans, divided
 * 1/4 cup vegetable oil
 * 1 large onion, chopped
 * 1 large green bell pepper, chopped
 * 2 stalks celery, chopped
 * 2 cloves garlic, sliced
 * 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning mix
 * 1 tablespoon gumbo filé
 * 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
 * 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
 * 1 bunch collard greens, stems removed and cut into thin strips
 * 1 bunch mustard greens, stems removed and cut into thin strips
 * 1 bunch Swiss chard, stems removed and cut into thin strips
 * 1 bunch kale, stems removed and cut into thin strips
 * 1 bunch spinach, cut into thin strips
 * 2 cups watercress, larger stems removed and cut into thin strips
 * 1 bunch parsley, finely chopped
 * 4 cups vegetable stock, divided
 * 4 cups cooked white rice
 * Reserved Chicken and Andouille Sausage
 * Reserved Roasted Vegetables
 * Hot sauce, to taste

FOR ROASTED VEGETABLES:

 1. Combine yams, sweet potatoes, okra and vegetable oil in a large bowl. Season
with salt and pepper. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and rest at
    room temperature for 20 minutes.

 2. Preheat oven to 425°F. Roast vegetables for 10-12 minutes, until browned and
    fully cooked.

 3. Keep warm until ready to serve.

FOR CHICKEN AND ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE:

 1. Heat vegetable oil in medium sauté pan over medium heat for 5 minutes, until
hot. Add sliced andouille sausage and cook for 5-6 minutes, until browned.
Transfer to plate using slotted spoon.

 2. Season chicken thighs with Cajun seasoning and add to sauté pan, scraping up
any browned bits from the andouille sausage. Cook over medium heat for 6-8
minutes, until chicken thighs are fully cooked. Transfer to plate using
    slotted spoon.

 3. Keep warm until ready to serve.

FOR GUMBO:

 1. Purée one can of cannellini beans in a blender or food processor; set
    aside.

 2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes, until
hot. Add puréed beans and cook, stirring continuously for 15 minutes, until
    tan in color.

 3. Add onions and sauté for 6 minutes, until translucent. Add bell pepper and
celery and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in garlic, Cajun seasoning, gumbo filé,
salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.

 4. Add 2 cups of vegetable stock and bring to a simmer. Slowly add collard
greens, mustard greens, Swiss chard and kale, stirring to combine. Simmer
for 5 minutes. Drain liquid from remaining can of cannellini beans. Add to
skillet with remaining 2 cups of vegetable stock, spinach, watercress and
parsley. Stir to combine. Add additional salt and pepper, as needed.

 5. Ladle into bowls with rice. Top with reserved Chicken and Andouille Sausage
and Roasted Vegetables. Add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce, to
    taste.

Cook’s Note: For a plant-based version of this recipe, omit the chicken and
andouille sausage.

Always use caution when handling sharp objects and hot contents.

Please supervise children who are helping or nearby.

This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant
kitchens.

The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version.

If you like a little extra kick in your gumbo, try a few dashes of Mama Odie’s
Hot Sauce; it’s the bee’s knees!

And for a special treat, Dooky Chase’s Gumbo Base can be used in place of the
gumbo filĂ©. If Dooky Chase’s Restaurant sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the
restaurant that was owned and operated by the legendary chef Leah Chase! Her
story was one of the inspirations for the character of Princess Tiana in Walt
Disney Animation Studios “The Princess and the Frog,” and later in the
development of the upcoming attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering — Tiana’s
Bayou Adventure.

You can find Mama Odie’s Hot Sauce and assorted Dooky Chase’s Seasonings this
summer at Main Street Confectionery and Critter Co-Op when Tiana’s Bayou
Adventure opens at Walt Disney World Resort this summer and later this year at
Disneyland park. We’re excited this will be the first time guests can buy Dooky
Chase’s Gumbo Base, Seafood Seasoning, Meat Seasoning and Fried Chicken
Seasoning outside of Dooky Chase’s Restaurant!

If you make this tasty gumbo or enjoy some of these seasonings at home, show us
your culinary creations with #DisneyEats. For more recipes to make some Disney
magic at home, check out the Disney Eats topic page and follow us @DisneyEats on

MADE YOU LOOK! A CELEBRITY COUPLE JUST HAD THE BEST TIME MEETING DISNEY’S
‘MONSTERS, INC’ CHARACTERS

Who wants to go to the Four Seasons Orlando? Who wants to go to Disney
California Adventure? Who wants to see a CELEBRITY during your visit?

Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure

OK, our bucket list is pretty packed, as you can see. But someday, maybe we’ll
spot the celebrity of our dreams AT Disney California and knock out two birds
with one stone (side note — what a weird expression, right? why the hostility
towards birds?!). And if you think the idea of seeing a celebrity at Disney
World or Disneyland is totally impossible, think again! Turns out celebrities
visit the Disney parks a LOT. They’re just like us, except for the millions of
dollars sitting in their bank account. Anyway, wanna know why we’re so confident
that our Disney celebrity dreams can come true? We’ve got proof it happens!

So recently, we shared a fun little video of Auliʻi Cravalho (the voice of
Moana) visiting not one but TWO new Disney World attractions.

Via @disneyparks on TikTok

If you haven’t checked out our post, we highly recommend watching the video of
her on the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride. Her reactions are priceless!

SEE MOANA’S HILARIOUS REACTION TO MAGIC KINGDOM’S NEW RIDE

But that’s not all! Disney also just shared an ADORABLE family photo at Disney
California Adventure. This family might look familiar; it’s singer Meghan
Trainor and actor Daryl Sabara, along with their son!

Via @disneyparks on Instagram

Oh, and Mike and Sully made an appearance, too. Good news — Mike’s face is fully
visible! We don’t want a repeat of THIS incident

Oh, and while we’re busy fangirling over this fun celebrity appearance, we need
to point out Meghan Trainor’s theme park style. From the comfy leggings to the
chunky platform sneakers, she clearly knows how to dress for a busy day in
Disneyland. See? Even celebrities know that t-shirts and baseball hats are a
theme park staple!

You never know who you might see in the Disney parks — that’s part of the fun!
We’ll be sure to keep you updated with any more fun celebrity appearances we
see, so stick around for more. In the meantime, we’ve got TONS of helpful Disney
planning tips and stories to share; check out our post below!

DISNEY ANNOUNCES OPENING DATE FOR NEW DIN TAI FUNG RESTAURANT

the disney food blog
By: Samantha Kendall
21 June 2024 at 13:07

Downtown Disney in Anaheim recently added three new restaurants — but they’re
still not stopping!

Din Tai Fung

A while back, we learned that the iconic Din Tai Fung restaurant — famous for
its soup dumplings — would be opening in this shopping and dining district
sometime this year, we just didn’t know when. Disney had shared an opening
timeline, but now it’s official and we know when you’ll be able to try those
delicious dumps!

It’s official! Din Tai Fung soft opened with a limited menu at Downtown Disney
Anaheim on June 24th, and will officially open with its full menu July 1st —
that’s in just a couple of days! We’ve been keeping up with all the latest
updates, and we’re happy to share that you’ll be able to enjoy those famous soup
dumplings soon.

Din Tai Fung

Din Tai Fung is famous for soup dumplings, which are “hand-crafted right on
sight,” at its current locations in Las Vegas, Costa Mesa, and other places in
Southern California, Oregon, and Washington. These are in addition to
international locations in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Europe, and Thailand.

Current locations feature various soups, many different flavors of dumplings and
buns, wontons, noodles, fried rice, and dessert dumplings filled with chocolate,
red bean paste, or sweet taro.

We got to try the bao!

Din Tai Fung originally opened in Taipei, Taiwan. According to the restaurant’s
website, Mr. Bing-Yi Yang immigrated to Taiwan and opened a shop selling cooking
oil. He named the shop Din Tai Fung. He and his wife sold dumplings in their
shop as well, called Xiao Long Bao (steamed pork soup dumplings). These
dumplings became so popular that Mr. Yang “phased out his oil business” and Din
Tai Fung became a full-blown restaurant.

Delicious

Reservations can be made NOW on Yelp, and Disney has advised that this is a soft
opening, which means there might still be some kinks to work out — so be patient
with the employees if you decide to visit right after opening! We also got the
chance to get a sneak peek of the merchandise that will be released once this
spot opens, and you can check it out here.

Cute!

We’ll be checking Din Tai Fung out and bringing you our full review once it
opens. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for all
your Disneyland, Disney World, and more needs.

BREAKING: A SLEW OF DISNEY HALLOWEEN UPDATES JUST ANNOUNCED!

the disney food blog
By: David Goodkind
20 June 2024 at 17:58

The year has been flying by and we’ll be approaching the Halloween season in
just a few months!

Mickey pumpkin in Disneyland

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is one of the best times to visit The
Happiest Place on Earth! This season at Disneyland features Halloween
decorations, themed merch, special food offerings, ride holiday overlays, the
incredibly fun Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure, and more! If
you’re like us and ready to hear all about this year’s festivities, you’re in
luck — Disney just announced a bunch of stuff coming to this year’s Halloween
Time at Disneyland!

Taking place from August 23rd through October 31st, 2024, Halloween Time at
Disneyland will feature new fall looks for Mickey, Minnie, and other Disney
characters, a new daytime show, new autumn-inspired food offerings, a beloved
ride overlay, seasonal décor, and more!

Disneyland

We previously reported that Haunted Mansion is set to reopen this fall with the
inclusion of a virtual queue. Additionally, Disney confirmed that the ride WILL
open as the Haunted Mansion Holiday The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. The
attraction is currently closed due to a hefty refurbishment that is giving the
ride a brand new outdoor queue and accompanying Madame Leota-themed store.

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Haunted Mansion isn’t the only thing getting a makeover during Halloween Time —
Mickey and Minnie are also getting new fall outfits!

©Disney

In fact, the whole Mickey and Friends gang will be available for photo
opportunities at Disneyland Park in new festive attire featuring skeleton
inspirations and colorful patchwork patterns.

©Disney

This year’s Halloween Time at Disneyland will also feature a first! According to
Disney, Mickey’s Trick and Treat interactive show will be available as a daily
offering. Per Disney, the show “encourages younger guests to join in a
not-so-spooky sing and dance-along with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse at the
Disney Theater in Disney California Adventure Park. With colorful projections
and a lively host dressed as a mad scientist, it’s a happy haunting you’ll not
soon forget!”

Mickey’s Trick and Treat at Oogie Boogie Bash

For nighttime entertainment, Disneyland will present Halloween Screams, a
nighttime spectacular “featuring supernatural projections and other ghostly
special effects viewable from in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, “it’s a small
world” facade, Rivers of America, and along Main Street, U.S.A.”

Select nights will even see the show feature fireworks.

©Disney

Of course, it wouldn’t be Halloween Time without decorations! The iconic Mickey
Pumpkin, gourd decorations, Headless Horseman, and Halloween decorations at
Downtown Disney and the three Disneyland Resort hotels are all confirmed to
return.

Headless Horsemen statue

Similarly, Disney California Adventure will also have some returning theming
favorites. Cars Land will feature a “ghoulish” array of Haul-O-Ween outfits and
dĂ©cor. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters will also
sport new temporary looks and soundtracks to become Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree
and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

Happy Haul-O-Ween

Over in Avengers Campus, Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! will once
again get a Halloween overlay, transforming into Guardians of the Galaxy –
Monsters After Dark. The overlay will feature menacing monsters on the loose in
the Collector’s Fortress and the infamous thrilling drops. Riders will be
enlisted by Rocket to distract the creatures as he tries to find Groot.

©Disney

Foodies rejoice! Dining locations throughout the Disneyland Resort will
offer new and returning seasonal items! You’ll be able to find Halloween funnel
cake at Stage Door CafĂ©, al pastor tacos inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco at
Paradise Garden Grill, as well as a special dining opportunity at Goofy’s
Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel!

©Disney

Additionally, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is getting into the
Halloween spirit with an “all-new autumn-inspired breakfast and brunch, complete
with seasonal dĂ©cor and characters debuting new festive looks” over at
Storyeller’s Cafe.

Storyteller’s Cafe

Of course, Halloween Time will also come with a ton of new merch! Disney
promises a ton of new Disney Halloween-themed apparel, accessories, headwear,
and other spirited garb that will be available both at the Disneyland Resort and
online at the Disney Store. You’ll also be able to find Coco and Oogie Boogie
Bash merchandise at Disney California Adventure.

©Disney

Speaking of California Adventure, Plaza de la Familia at the park will be
inspired by the traditions of Día de los Muertos and will offer “music, vibrant
dĂ©cor, festive foods, and exciting live entertainment” through November 2nd,
2024. Be sure to check out the Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) photo location
and memory wall! The musical celebration of Coco will be returning this year
with a new name, story, and costumes. The show will be performed several times
daily so be sure to check the Disneyland app for more details!

La Plaza de Familia

Another confirmed returnee this year is Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit at Downtown
Disney! However, the hidden pumpkin search is doing something new this year,
extending to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, as well! You can
purchase an activity map in several locations at the Disneyland Resort that will
aid you in your quest to claim a special collectible keepsake.

©Disney

As we previously mentioned, Oogie Boogie Bash is returning to Disney California
Adventure this year! This after-hours event offers rare character
meet-and-greets, exclusive snacks, special merchandise, lower ride wait times,
live entertainment, and more!

Ticket sale dates are as follows:

 * June 25th, 2024: Inspire Magic Key Holders (limited number of tickets
   available for pre-sale)
 * June 26th, 2024: All Magic Key Holders (limited number of tickets available
   for pre-sale)
 * June 27th, 2024: General public (limited amount of tickets available)

©Disney

Tickets can be purchased on the Disneyland.com website where you’ll enter a
waiting room to purchase tickets at 8:45AM PT. Sales will begin no earlier than
9AM PT. As a reminder, this is a separate ticketed event, so if you plan to
visit California Adventure all day, you’ll need a regular park ticket.

Gotta pay a visit to the boogie man!

And that’s a wrap on Disneyland’s latest Halloween announcements! Stay tuned
right here at DFB for Halloween Time updates as they develop as well as all the
latest Disneyland news, tips, reviews, and more!
