ACTOR DAVID SOUL AND HIS UFO MOVIE ROLE

     Actor David Soul died at age 80 this week, and while most people will
remember him for his role in the TV series, Starsky and Hutch -- and for a brief
but popular singing career -- few may recall his role in a movie about UFOs.

In 1974, a low-budget TV movie entitled, The Disappearance of Flight 412
premiered on the NBC TV Network. Starring Glenn Ford and several other familiar
actors, one of the characters who portrayed an Air Force pilot was David Soul.

We have mentioned this motion picture on several occasions over the years, but
the notable thing about it was that one of the script's writers, himself with a
military background, was actually putting into fiction an actual event with
which he was familiar. In this case, two Marine pilots disappear while checking
out three radar UFOs, and later on only a little aircraft wreckage is located
with no trace of the pilots. A similar jet scramble happens only days later, but
this is only mentioned by the narrator toward the end.

Adding to the intrigue regarding production of the film, the Aerial Phenomena
Research Organization (APRO) of Arizona, then one of the oldest private UFO
organizations in the world, provided purportedly real photos of UFOs, and these
were displayed as part of the story.



The Disappearance of Flight 412 has long ago faded into the background, probably
because of its obvious minimal budget and lack of aliens with laser weapons
threatening the planet, but once the viewer understands that there's real --
frightening -- history here, the production takes on a different value for us.

David Soul's role was no more or less noteworthy than that of the other actors,
but the fact that he took on this project, primarily a showplace for Glenn Ford,
who himself was a military officer and already held views about UFOs, should be
of interest particularly to those interested in UFO history. I just wanted you
to know.

THE UFOS AND NUKES BOOK AND THE SECRET PENTAGON UFO PROJECT

During journalist George Knapp’s November 17, 2023 interview with me—which will
appear in a Netflix UFO documentary series later this year—Knapp began by asking
me whether I was aware that the late US Senator Harry Reid had read my book,
UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites.

I reminded George that he himself had briefly mentioned that fact earlier in the
year. Knapp then elaborated, saying that Reid had once told him that revelations
contained in the book—regarding UFOs monitoring and even tampering with US
nuclear missiles—were one of the reasons the then-powerful Senate Majority
Leader had secretly authorized government funding for a covert Pentagon UFO
study in 2007. That project ended up being called the Advanced Aerospace Weapon
System Applications Program (AAWSAP), which later morphed into the Advanced
Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP).

Although a number of factors led to Reid’s decision to fund the secret program,
according to AATIP’s former director, retired US Army counterintelligence
special agent Luis Elizondo, I must confess that it is rather gratifying to know
that my published research apparently contributed to the creation of one of the
US Government's formal, if classified, investigations of the UFO phenomenon.



Beginning in 1973, I had sought out and interviewed former or retired US Air
Force personnel who had either operated or guarded nuclear weapons, regarding
their personal UFO encounters at ICBM launch facilities, missile warhead/bomb
storage depots, and other nukes-related sites. My interest in the topic resulted
from a UFO radar-tracking incident that I had inadvertently witnessed at
Malmstrom AFB, Montana, in 1967, involving mysterious aerial objects maneuvering
near missile sites outside of the base.

As of 2023, 167 USAF veterans and other military personnel have gone
on-the-record for me and UFOs and Nukes is essentially a compilation of some of
those individuals’ tape recorded testimony. Collectively, their revelations
about unknown, technologically-advanced observers’ persistent interest in
America’s nuclear weapons clearly indicate a potential threat to US national
security. Moreover, my investigations unquestionably confirm that the UFO-Nukes
Connection is longstanding, widespread and ongoing. Upon reading the book,
Senator Reid was understandably concerned by the veterans’ dramatic disclosures
and, according to George Knapp, decided that a new, covert investigation of them
was warranted.

How the book came to the senator’s attention is rather intriguing. While writing
it, in 2005, I had sought the assistance of a physicist when composing a chapter
on faster-than-light (FTL) space travel, the assumption being that—should UFOs
indeed turn out to be extraterrestrial spacecraft—the entities operating them
would likely utilize exotic propulsion modes to travel between their worlds and
ours. I emailed several physicists who had written peer-reviewed papers on FTL,
to seek their input. The person who ended up working with me was Dr. Harold
“Hal” Puthoff. As the public now knows, Puthoff became AATIP’s scientific
advisor in 2007.

The first edition of UFOs and Nukes was published in July 2008. At that time, it
was only available at my website. In December of that year, Puthoff unexpectedly
emailed me and asked that I overnight-ship four copies to him. When I checked
into the delivery charge involved, it turned out to be more than a hundred
dollars. I quickly wrote back to Puthoff, suggesting that I simply ship the
books via US Postal Media Mail, which would take five days, but would be a much
cheaper solution. Upon receiving my response, Puthoff immediately called me and
said that he had an upcoming meeting with some “movers and shakers in
Washington” two days hence, and he wanted to distribute copies of the book to
them. At that, I rush-shipped the order.

Years later, when the now-famous bombshell article exposing the existence of
AATIP appeared in The New York Times, on December 16, 2017, Hal Puthoff was
identified as a member of the secret project. Stunned, I wrote to him shortly
thereafter, asking him whether he remembered the overnight-shipping episode in
2008. He confirmed that he did and then told me that AATIP director Lue Elizondo
had been one of the recipients of my book.

(In 2021, during a podcast, Elizondo confirmed that AATIP had utilized UFOs and
Nukes during its own investigation of nuclear weapons-related UFO activity, and
said that I had done “a fantastic job” researching the subject.)

In any case, in 2017, when I asked Puthoff who had received the other three
copies of the book during his 2008 meeting with the “movers and shakers”, he
declined to answer. Now, given George Knapp’s recent comments to me, I am
certain that one of them was US Senator Harry Reid.

APRO FILES AND THE IOWA EGG-SHAPED UFO LANDING

     For those new to the field, they might not know much about the Aerial
Phenomena Research Organization (APRO), which was created by Coral Lorenzen in
the early 1950s. At that time there were two prominent UFO Organizations with
APRO being one and the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena
(NICAP) being the other. There were dozens, if not hundreds of smaller, local
organizations. I was a member of the Denver UFO Society in the late 1960s, but
that was a group that operated in the Denver area and had no real investigation
arm.

I mention APRO because of its size, the membership in the thousands and Coral,
and later Jim and Coral Lorenzen published several good books about UFOs. Unlike
NICAP, which seemed to focus on Congressional investigations and pressing the
Air Force for transparency, though they certainly collected thousands of UFO
reports, APRO focused on what might have been seen as the fringe areas of UFO
study early on. They collected reports on landings and occupant sightings and
were the first American organization to research alien abduction cases. Although
they had known about the Vilas-Boas abduction in 1957, they didn’t report on it
officially until the 1960s when the Barney and Betty Hill case was investigated.
Interestingly, Betty Hill contacted Don Keyhoe of NICAP about her sighting and
abduction. Eventually, her interest was diverted to APRO.

The point here is that the files of NICAP, the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO
Studies (CUFOS) and even many if not most of the Project Blue Books files have
been collected by various civilian research and investigation organizations. The
exception was the APRO files. Upon the deaths of both Jim and Coral Lorenzen in
the mid-1980s, the files ended up in the hands of the Lorenzen children after.
Attempts by various organizations and individuals to obtain the files had been
made over the years without success.



I provide this brief history to put all this into context. As many know, David
Marler, who has created the National UFO Historical Records Center, a name that
does not lend itself to an easily pronounceable acronym, has announced the
acquisition of the APRO records. This means, that his Center is now the
repository of the largest collection of UFO records. This includes the records
and investigative activities of several foreign researchers and organizations.

Marler, and his team have been digitizing these records at the headquarters of
the organization, which means that searches for specific cases, and all relevant
data will become a searchable file, or as Marler wrote in his press release, the
files are digitized for electronic storage, analyzation, transfer and ease of
access.

Interestingly, there have been, in the past, UFO researchers who guarded their
records and files with a tenacity that rivals various governmental agencies.
That barrier seems to have been broken to some extent now.

As I say, the important point here is the transfer of the APRO files into
Marler’s group. They are currently located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and can be
found at www.nufohrc.org.

APRO was the first UFO organization to take reports of landing and alien beings
seriously. They sent the first investigators into Pascagoula to interview
Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker. And were in Socorro, New Mexico, within hours
to interview Lonnie Zamora about the UFO landing and occupant sighting there in
1964.

One of those APRO cases was a landing in rural Iowa on June 6, 1972. The
witness, identified in the APRO only as Mr. T., but his name was Edward Tieg. He
said that a flash of light caught his attention. He thought it was an airplane,
but the object came closer. He saw that it was egg shaped and as it began to
land, legs grew out of the bottom. He said that it was about ten to twelve feet
in diameter and fifteen to twenty feet tall. He said that it cast a shadow when
it was sitting on the ground.

It was about a hundred yards away. A hatch opened and according to him, some
people got out. The beings were about five feet tall and were wearing a
one-piece flying suit. They messed around in the corn, returned to their ship
and it took off.

He said that as it lifted off, a blue flame shot out of the bottom, there was a
roar and the legs retracted. The corn stocks in that area looked as if they had
been caught in a whirlwind but they weren’t burned. I’ll note here that Lonnie
Zamora talked about a blue flame and a roar as that craft lifted off. I’m not
sure if a farmer in Iowa knew about a New Mexico policeman who described some of
the same features.

Although reluctant to talk about the sighting, he did provide an illustration of
what he had seen. As happens so often in UFO reports, there were no other
witnesses to this sighting, though there had been others in the area about the
same time.

     Last week on the Senate floor, two senators rose to express disappointment
with the House of Representatives. This was by itself routine enough, but the
senators, Mike Rounds, Republican of South Dakota, and the New York Democrat and
majority leader,

Chuck Schumer weren’t complaining about Ukraine funding or border policy. They
were complaining that the House was impeding transparency on U.F.O.s.

The back story, for those who don’t follow every twist of what we’re now
supposed to call the unidentified anomalous phenomenon (U.A.P.) debate, is that
the National Defense Authorization Act, on Schumer’s instigation, included
provisions to establish a presidential commission with the power to declassify a
broad swath of records related to U.A.P.s, modeled on the panel that did similar
work with President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.



But this disclosure effort was watered down by some House Republicans, making it
more of a collection effort by the National Archives, with a weaker mandate to
declassify and release.

As ever with this issue, the Senate discussion of these developments veered from
the banal to the superweird. One moment, Rounds was talking as if the whole
legislative effort was just an attempt to “dispel myths and misinformation about
U.A.P.s” — sunlight as a disinfectant for conspiracy theories. The next, he was
complaining that the House had stripped out a requirement that the government
reclaim “any recovered U.A.P. material or biological remains that may have been
provided to private entities in the past and thereby hidden from Congress and
the American people.” Which is an odd thing to emphasize if you don’t think
there’s a possibility that, say, Lockheed Martin is keeping something strange
inside its vaults.

the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Don Berliner: My name is Don Berliner, this is Rob Swiatek. We are both members
of the Executive Committee of the Fund for U.F.O. Research. The Fund is a
nonprofit corporation set up to support scientific research and educational
projects aimed at shedding some light on the U.F.O. mystery. We don't know what
U.F.O.'s are. We would like to know. A long term mystery like this must be
solved sooner or later. And we want to do our part by mainly by bringing the
scientific community into this problem. Our reason for being here today concerns
the latest Air Force attempt to explain the July, 1947 Roswell incident. And one
of the things that keeps us going is not only the nuts and bolts of U.F.O.
sightings, but the increasingly peculiar behavior of the U.S. government, in
particular the United States Air Force. This latest report is far and away the
least believable of a series of reports the Air Force has issued on this
particular aspect of UFOs. Each one intended as a final answer to the question.
And obviously not succesful.

UFO – IS THE TRUTH OUT THERE?



     Chuck Todd: Hello again and welcome to another edition of Meet the Press
reports, I'm Chuck Todd.

So is the government hiding what it knows about UFOs? From the moment the first

Americans have been fascinated with so-called UFOs. Most sightings are easily
explained and Hollywood doesn't help. In the early days Sci-Fi movies often
depicted space aliens as human-like Little Green Men who curiously spoke perfect
English. But what happens when some 300 people claim to have seen the same thing
or when US military Pilots record flying objects that seem to perform feats
beyond human capacity. Former military officials believe the government truly is
holding something back from the public. So we asked NBC News correspondent Sam
Brock to look into what are now called UAPs or somewhat awkwardly unidentified
aerial phenomena.

Sam I know this is kind of a fun piece, but it's kind of serious too.



Sam Brock: No doubt because now there's just so much more visuals that we can
sort of hang our hat on. Chuck and you're right about the fact that UAPs does
not exactly roll right off of the tongue, but rest assured they are on the minds
of many Americans. So much so that there have been Congressional hearings to
talk about them, testimonies from military members describing them, even a
federal department now tasked with investigating them. So what have we learned
so far? Not as much as we would like, but some scientists say with a little bit
more information we are hot on the trail of a breakthrough.

For years America's fascination and fixation with possible life outside of our
world came through the lens of theater, [various clip of old Flying Saucer
movies playing in the background] like War of the Worlds. A fervor in the 50s
and 60s that generated fear over Flying Saucers. Alien figures with arms legs
and laser beams. But more than a half century later that fervor is back this,
time fueled in part by some modern day videos that seemingly defy explanation,
like this 2004 sighting captured by a Navy jet off the coast of San Diego where
a mysterious oblong object first appears to break lock on an infrared sensor,
almost instantaneously accelerates and vanishes from sight.

CIA HAS CONDUCTED MULTIPLE UFO CRASH RETRIEVAL MISSIONS, WHISTLEBLOWERS REVEAL



     A secretive CIA office has been coordinating the retrieval of crashed UFOs
around the world for decades, multiple sources told DailyMail.com.

One source said that at least nine apparent 'non-human craft' have been

THE AERIAL PHENOMENA RESEARCH ORGANIZATION (APRO) RECORDS HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED



     The Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) was one of the oldest and
largest civilian UFO research organizations in the world. The research files of
this organization have been transferred to the National UFO Historical Records
Center (NUFOHRC) in Rio Rancho, NM.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek, former Scientific Adviser to U.S. Air Force Project Blue
Book, cited APRO and NICAP (National Investigations Committee on Aerial
Phenomena) the best civilian UFO groups of their time. Both of these collections
of UFO archival records along with the files of the Center for UFO Studies
(CUFOS) are now housed at the headquarters of NUFOHRC.

APRO was founded in 1952 by Jim and Coral Lorenzen, later based in Tucson, AZ.
NICAP was started in 1957 in Washington D.C. by Major Donald Keyhoe. CUFOS was
founded in 1973 by Dr. J. Allen Hynek in Chicago, IL. All of these records are
in the process of being digitized for electronic storage, analyzation, transfer,
and ease of access.

The collective files of APRO, NICAP, CUFOS, as well as Dr. J. Allen Hynek’s
original U.S. Air Force Project Blue Book files, constitutes the largest
civilian historical UFO case file collection in the United States, if not the
world.

An appropriate site is being sought in the Albuquerque, NM area for a permanent
facility to house this massive collection of UFO research data. The facility
will allow for public access to the UFO data as well as viewing of historic
photos and artifacts from the UFO research field. NUFOHRC plans to cooperate
with civilian, scientific, and governmental UFO research efforts.

Never in U.S. history has such a vast quantity of UFO records (numbering in the
tens of thousands) been centralized in one location.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, a tax-deductible donation may be made to
NUFOHRC to fund a free-standing public archive building which will make these
files and other historical materials more readily accessible for UFO
researchers, academics, scientists, and U.S. government organizations. Donations
can be made online or via mail.
