Title: BLDG 61: Woodshop Tool Appointments Date: Friday, Aug 30 2024 Time:

Makerspace Description:

The BLDG 61 woodshop is available by appointment only. No walk-ins can be
accepted, so be cool and book ahead!


MAKE A TOOL APPOINTMENT

 

Sessions are COLOR-CODED based on the level of supervision a specific tool
requires. Tools in the ‘Yellow’ category require the least staff guidance. Tools
in the ‘Green’ category require some guidance. And tools in the ‘Pink’ category
require the most supervision. The machines available in each session are listed
below. Staff are not able to change your category. It is up to patrons to select
which category provides access to the tools they need. If they do not yet know
which tools they need, patrons should attend Open Studio to make a plan for
their project.

 

Yellow Green Pink Time slots for tools and processes that require little to no
supervision while working primarily at the workbench in the shop. Time slots for
machines that users may need help setting up and then be run with little
supervision. Time slots for machines and processes that require the closest
supervision from BLDG 61 staff.

Woodshop Safety and Use Requirements

 * Closed-toed shoes are required, no exceptions.
 * Eye protection and dust masks are required at all times in the shop. All
   additional safety gear must be worn as appropriate.
 * Long hair must be safely secured and out of the way. Loose-fitting clothing,
   lanyards, and other dangly items are not permitted.
 * Users under the age of 14 must be supervised by a parent, adult guardian, or
   teacher at all times. BLDG 61 staff is unavailable to provide this direct
   supervision.
 * Your acknowledgment of risk and release form on file.


Woodshop Guests and Collaborators
Up to one collaborator/partner/assistant is welcome (and encouraged!) to join
you during your session.

Title: Laser Focus: Laser Cutting Tool Appointments Date: Friday, Aug 30 2024
Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm Location: BLDG 61 Makerspace Locations: Main Library
Audiences: Adult, Teen Categories: Makerspace Description:

BLDG 61 is so lucky to have 3 lasers available to the public. Make a tool
appointment to use one of our lasers during this time. 

Please watch the Laser Orientation Video before arriving if you are new to laser
cutting. 

The 120 Watt is for experienced laser users only, please book our 75W or 40W
laser if you are new to laser cutting. 

The 40 W laser is the only laser with the capability to use the rotary tool and
etch on round surfaces. 

All three lasers operating at once is loud! Please be prepared to wear hearing
protection.

Library Audiences: Adult, All ages, Baby, Preschool, School Age, Teen, Tween
Categories: Classes & Activities, STEAM Description:

Come take in the ambiance at the new Studio 24 makerspace as you relax after a
long week. Drop in for any period of time and learn more about future Studio 24
offerings.

10:00am - 12:00pm Presenter: STUDIO 24 Location: Studio 24 Makerspace Locations:
NoBo Library Audiences: Adult, School Age, Teen Categories: Makerspace
Description:

Visit during Open Studio hours to see our new makerspace in action, learn about
equipment, or get hands-on with a project of your own. 

Staff is available for guidance with tools and materials. All experience levels
and ages are welcome. 

 * Open Studio Equipment and Software:  Sewing machines, Sergers, Dye
   Sublimation Printers, Heat Press, and design software such as the Adobe Suite
   and Blender on our laptops and computers. 

Safety and Use Requirements

 * No Registration Required
 * Youth 13 years old and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
 * All attendees must fill out our Acknowledgement of Risk and Release Form
   prior to use of the makerspace.
