FIVE YEARS OF THE INSURANCE DISTRIBUTION DIRECTIVE (IDD) – TIME TO TAKE STOCK

The IDD entered into force on 23 February 2016 and national laws implementing
the IDD have now been in application in the majority of Member States for
approximately five years since 23 February 2018 or 1 October 2018. Given that
the IDD has been in application for a substantial period of time now and
National Competent Authorities (NCAs) have considerable experience in
supervising and insurance distributors in applying the rules, it is time to take
stock of the experiences on the application of the IDD.

The aim of this public event is to gather input on the application of the IDD
which can be used for EIOPA’s second report on the application of the IDD to be
published by the end of 2023.

The event will cover topics such as the improvement of the quality of advice and
selling methods, the impact of emerging trends on insurance distribution (e. g.
digitalisation and new rules on sustainability) and the impact of COVID-19 and
current geopolitical developments on insurance distribution.


PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Audience: The public event is free and open to any type of organisation and
member of the public, including, for example, representatives from national
competent authorities, consumer associations/authorities, academics, trade
associations, insurance undertakings and insurance intermediaries
