I’m an American novelist. My work features brave, resourceful characters who face life’s hardships with perseverance, grit, and sometimes luck. I strive to employ a delicate balance between wit and pathos in my writing. As a copywriter and creative director who has worked in advertising, my move to writing fiction was a natural progression. When not reading or writing, I enjoy gardening, oil painting, and long-distance running. I reside in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am currently querying my debut women’s fiction novel, Consider This Your Punishment. LEARN MORE BLOG UPDATE FROM MY BLOG * March 17, 2024 BOOK REVIEW: YELLOWFACE BY R. F. KUANG My rating: 5 of 5 stars A cheeky take on the publishing industry and unwritten rules about who can write what: in June Hayward/Juniper Song, Kuang has created a despicable yet compelling character due to June’s perseverance after making a gigantic error in judgment. It’s hard not to sympathize with Junie despite disliking her actions […] * February 25, 2024 BOOK REVIEW: THE ORCHARDIST BY AMANDA COPLIN My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book, its characters, and its setting, Washington State, during the early years of the 20th century, touched my heart. For several characters, the actions and thought patterns perfectly illustrate the aftermath caused by childhood trauma. The vivid portrayal of the landscape, the trees, the mountains, the characters, and […] * March 25, 2023 BOOK REVIEW: A THOUSAND SHIPS BY NATALIE HAYNES My rating: 5 of 5 stars This gripping retelling of the Trojan war from the perspective of the women did not disappoint. With an extensive cast of characters from both sides of the war, this book creates a unique portrait of the horrors brought about by a war waged for sketchy reasons. From the viewpoint […] * March 14, 2023 BOOK REVIEW: ELEANOR OLIPHANT BY GAIL HONEYMAN My rating: 5 of 5 stars Equal parts funny and heartbreaking, Eleanor shows us what it’s like to be the product of an abusive mother and the result of a traumatic childhood. Although she claims everything is fine, I wanted to fold her in my arms and reassure her everything really would be fine. Most […] * February 25, 2023 BOOK REVIEW: KINDRED BY OCTAVIA BUTLER My rating: 5 of 5 stars I could not bring myself to put this book down, which seamlessly combined the genres of science fiction and historical fiction. Traveling with Dana back and forth from California in 1976 to Maryland in 1819 broadened my understanding of slavery and its effects on people. The juxtaposition of the […] VIEW ALL POSTS Get the E-newsletter SIGN UP FOR BOOK UPDATES Leave this field empty if you're human: © 2021-2024 Ava Teedro. All Right Reserved.
