ABOUT MICKEY WRIGHT

PLEASE READ BEFORE ENTERING THE GALLERY. THANK YOU!

The vast majority of Disneyland guests exploring the Rivers of the World on the
world famous Jungle Cruise return to the dock without really being aware of what
had just taken place. They climb aboard one of the riverboats, lured by the
promise of the adventure of their lives, and ignore all signs of danger or wise
thought. With no assurance of a safe or quick return they blissfully board the
boat and entrust their possessions, lives and the lives of their families to a
complete stranger. Caught up in the adventure, most are oblivious to the fact
that they have been transported in time, to the year 1938, and that time itself
has speeded up a million-fold (almost 400 times the speed of light). Their trip,
which normally would take weeks or months, instead feels like about 8 minutes.

You might say that this magical adventure began in the mind of a young British
lad in the late 1800's. Born into an age when stories of exploration were
perhaps at their peak, Albert Falls dreamed of becoming an explorer himself. He
eventually even became friends with Henry Stanley, the man who after searching
for and finding the long lost missionary to Africa, uttered this most famous of
understatements, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume."

Albert Falls was the first to go up the river but upon his release he soon
realized his dream becoming the first to discover Adventureland and explore the
Rivers of the World. One day as he rounded a bend in the river he spotted a
beautiful waterfall and immediately proclaimed that he was naming it after
himself...which he did...calling it "Schweitzer Falls".

In 1911 Dr. Falls established the Jungle Navigation Company in Adventureland, a
cargo shipping business he established for the purpose of improving the way
cargo moved up and down the jungle rivers for his fellow explorers and
adventurers. His granddaughter, Alberta, was sent by her parents to live with
him when she was eight years old. She came to regard the jungle as her home and
the crewmembers her family. She eventually inherited the business from her
grandfather but times they were a changing and the business began to decline.
Fewer and fewer full-fledged expeditions were coming to the jungle and
Adventureland was becoming more of a destination for greenhorn globetrotters.
Then one of the skippers came up with the idea to use the boats for guided tours
of the jungle to visitors. With the success of the Jungle Cruises came the need
to feed guests. First, the home offices; then the crew's mess hall; then the old
family room and finally even Dr. Fall's old meeting room were turned into dining
rooms. Thus the Skipper Canteen was born.

Later that year some long lost art was found near an abandoned outcamp on the
Congo River near Schweitzer Falls. The art was found under rubble that had
evidently been left behind by a family of marauding gorillas. It is considered
priceless because the artist, T. O. Mickey was one of the original riverboat
skippers who came with Dr. Falls to the Rivers of the World when he founded the
company in 1911. T. O. Mickey, known by his fellow skippers as "Captain M" spent
his off days painting favorite spots along the river. He was tragically killed
about 4 years prior when a lame Bengal tiger was only able to jump about 20
feet.

Alberta, Dr. Falls' granddaughter, the current owner, was understandably
overjoyed at the find but initially appeared unsure of what would be done with
it. She first indicated plans to sell the art, either to private collectors or
at public auction, but soon expressed her plans to create a gallery on the walls
of the Skipper Canteen. That wish soon became reality when the art appeared on
the walls of the Skipper Canteen.

----------------------

As a Disneyland Jungle Cruise skipper Captain Mickey enjoyed guiding guests down
the Rivers of the World. My goal was to give them the most hilarious adventure
of their lives!

In 2009 he had the very high honor of being chosen to represent the Jungle
Cruise at a special international event in Tokyo, Japan. Then later that year he
moved to Texas where he traded the title "Captain Mickey" for the title
"Cappy"...and his new "happy place" became Liberty Bess.

Since leaving Disneyland he has had the joy of returning one summer to work and
hopes to do so again and again in the future. But he stays connected is through
his art. He not only enjoys creating pieces of art from photographs he's taken
but likes that it allows his fans and other lovers of the Jungle Cruise to take
a piece of the River home without getting in trouble with security.

His goal as an artist is similar to what his goal was as a skipper. Humor is
still very important. In fact, he says that in his art "HUMOR is a primary
color". So, to fully experience his gallery, you need to view it with the same
expectations that his guests on the Jungle Cruise had when they rode his boats.
Please take the time to "float" through the gallery, looking at the art and
"listening" to his comments (under each piece of art). Click on "NEXT" to move
on to the next piece of art. By the way, the "virtual" galleries are simply for
demonstrating how the art would look in a room.

Enjoy yourself! Feel free to laugh and, of course, your comments are also always
welcome.

He hopes you enjoy your visit and will return many times. To keep up with his
art news, please visit and LIKE his FaceBook Fan Page:
https://www.facebook.com/CaptainMickeysArtGallery.

Now, either click on "IMAGES" to browse all of the art or "GALLERIES" to choose
one gallery. Enjoy yourself. Thank you!
