THE “ACCIDENTAL LITURGIES” OF AFS GUEST POET PÁDRAIG Ó TUAMA

Poetry can feel intimidating, like listening to the first lecture of a
calculus class, or giving The Big Presentation to your boss. But poet and
theologian Pádraig Ó Tuama invites an alternative view, arguing that poetry
is more like a radically honest conversation. In preparation for his reading
at AFS on February 16, Upper School students engage with his work and speak
   with the poems themselves.

A CELEBRATION OF BLACK ENTREPRENEURS, CREATORS, EDUCATORS, ARTISTS AND
EXCELLENCE AT AFS — REFLECTIONS FROM NEVAEH BROWN ’25

After months of careful planning, logistics, rehearsal and marketing, the
Black Student Union at AFS put on an incredible performance in the 5th Annual
Black Excellence Night. In a reflection on the evening, B.E.N. Committee
member Nevaeh Brown '25 captures both the immense reach of the program and
the emotional heart that beats at the center of the night.

TEACHING AS A TEAM: INVENTING THE SMALL FARMS CLASS

Classes do not just materialize in a ready-made syllabus. They are the
product of weeks and months of careful consideration, research,
meaning-making and collaboration. Not every course fits into a curriculum,
especially when there are only so many hours of school in a day. But when the
stars align, new classes can be an incredible source of energy and renewal
for the school—especially when they united the interdisciplinary talents of
   three separate faculty members.
