Dr. Daniel Cermak-Sassenrath (mail@dace.de)

Daniel Cermak-Sassenrath is a player, artist, Maker and academic. His specific
areas of expertise are Game Studies and the philosophy of play. His research
foci include play within and without games, play and materiality, play and
learning, and critical play. He is the author of a monograph about play as a
perspective in everyday computer use (transcript, 2010), and the editor of a
volume on the Playful Disruption of Digital Media (Springer, 2018). His current
(2024) book project is an introductory programming book for non-tech people to
learn to code with and for games (Routledge/CRC, forthcoming). In his own
practice, he makes games and playful installations, builds hardware interfaces
and controllers, and creates performances. His works have been shown
internationally at art exhibitions, academic conferences and popular events. He
is an active member of the international games research community. He is former
Associate Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU), Denmark, member of
the Center for Digital Play, and Co-Head of the Games Group. At the ITU, he was
also affiliated with the Center for Computing Education Research (CCER), the
Media, Art & Design (MAD) Research Group, and the Robotics, Evolution and Art
Lab (REAL). He taught in the Games' Programme in the Design Track. Daniel
initiated, hosted and facilitated the monthly BreakIT Maker workshop.

at the ITU. Most of them Master projects (some Bachelor projects and Individual
Study projects), with 1-4 students working on each. The majority was probably
done in 2-people pairs. Topics include: Game difficulty, How games can reduce
dentist fear, How enjoyment-oriented games and educational games differ from a
player perspective, An aesthetic for exergames, Player retention mechanics in
mobile free-to-play games, Aesthetic representations in games and effect on
illusion of player control, Children's nonsense literature and digital games
adaption, Playful museum interactions, Makerspaces as learning environments in
schools, AR board games, Boring games, Playful creativity ideation tools, Games
X - An explorative investigation into the fringes of play, Creativity and

Clicky Tiled Level Editor 3.0
A tiled 2D level editor with mouse controls. Features multiple selection (both
with shift and with dragging the pointer), and paint mode (i.e. first select
tile in tilesheet, then paint with this tile in the level). Scroll with the
mouse wheel. Works with levels which are 80 by 8 tiles, tilesheets that are 10
by 8 tiles, and tiles which are sized 32 by 32 pixels. Loads the file level.txt
automatically on startup; save to the same file on button press (on-screen
button and 's'). The file level.txt needs to exist, and to have exactly the
correct format (80x8 chars).
The levels for József Atomick were made with Clicky.

Tiny Artillery Simulation Game (Windows)
Ten artillery stations sit on a hilly mountain range and shoot at each other.
Each station can turn its cannon and change its shooting power. Up to ten human
players can take part, the rest is filled up with AI computer players. The game
is in real time, i.e. all stations can calculate, aim and shoot all the time,
there are no rounds. Played with joysticks, joypads or keyboard.

Luna Slow Sonic Music Club MP3 Player
I always loved to listen to songs at a slow speed with a record player, now I
wrote a simple MP3 player that can playback songs at various (slow and fast)
speeds.

which is not from the AppStore. But, of course, it is still possible.
