Labor Day Smash Tournament. They also played in a recent non-district game.

COMMERCE — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers recently played in the Labor Day
Smash Tournament and a pair of non-district games. In that span, the Lady
Panthers performed well, earning multiple wins.

EDGEWOOD — The Miller Grove Lady Hornets have been busy with a tournament and a
pair of non-district games recently. Despite playing hard, the Lady Hornets
didn’t experience as much success as they would’ve liked, going 2-5 over seven
games.

Friday, Aug. 30, falling 49-30 to the Tom Bean Tomcats at Frazier-Lawrence
Field. A sluggish start early would prove costly and a late rally fell short, as
the Trojans ended up losing.

MINEOLA — The Miller Grove Cross Country teams competed in the Mineola
Yellowjacket Invitational last week. Both teams ran hard and tough, gaining
experience for the season.

Deuce Hall (8) races up the field on a kickoff return during the Wildcats' game
against Mesquite Poteet Friday, Aug. 30. Hall recorded 126 kick return yards,
highlighted by a 96-yard kick return touchdown in the Wildcats' 68-17 victory.
He also rushed for 110 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground.

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats began their season with a bang last Friday,
plundering the Poteet Pirates 68-17 in their season opener at Gerald Prim
Stadium. All game long, the Wildcats outplayed the Pirates at every opportunity,
leading to a blowout victory.

BIRTHRIGHT — Last Saturday saw four Hopkins County schools – Como-Pickton, North
Hopkins, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff – compete in the Tim Menke Invitational
cross country meet at North Hopkins High School. Each team had multiple strong
performers, leading to positive results.
