Scientists have developed an algorithm that uses information from a person's
life events to predict how that person will live and when they will die.

The new study shows that the model called "live2vec" (life2vec) is correct in 78
percent of cases, which is a similar result achieved by other algorithms for
predicting the course of human life.



But unlike other models, this one works like a chatbot and uses existing details
to predict the course of someone's life. The Daily Mail.



The model was created by American and Danish scientists who "trained" the
algorithm on a huge database from Denmark, adding all kinds of information about
more than six million people, including income, profession, place of residence,
possible injuries and pregnancy history.

The end result is a model that can process simple language and predict the
likelihood of someone's premature death or predict someone's lifetime income.

Some of the factors that can lead to premature death include being male, having
impaired mental health or being in a certain profession. On the other hand, if
you have a higher income or have a leadership role in your life, it means that
you are likely to live longer.

By looking at every part of your life as words in a sentence, the life2vec model
predicts how someone's story will continue based on what the person has written.

Just as Chatjipity users ask the algorithm to write a poem or an essay,
scientists can ask the live2vec algorithm simple questions like, "will they die
within four years?"

The model used data collected between 2008 and 2016, and in three-quarters of
the cases it showed exactly who had died by 2020.

However, to protect the personal data of the people whose data was used to train
the system, it is not available to the general public or companies, said
research leader Sune Lehmann.

> "We are actively working on finding ways to share some of the results, but
> this requires further research on how to guarantee the privacy of the people
> in the study," said Lehmann, a professor of networking and complex systems at
> the Technical University of Denmark.

Even when the model is finally available to the public, Danish privacy laws
would prevent the use of this AI model to make decisions about individuals –
such as taking out insurance policies or making employment decisions.

Lehmann and his team assigned different tokens to each piece of information, and
all of this data was mapped to each other. The categories in people's life
stories evoke a whole range of human experiences: a broken arm is represented as
S52; The work in the store is coded as IND4726, the income is represented by 100
different digital tokens.

What this algorithm does is map the vast constellation of factors that make up
an individual's life and make predictions based on data from millions of other
people and many other factors. The algorithm can also make predictions about
people's personalities.

The test asks respondents to rate 10 items based on how much they agree, and
some sample questions are: "The first thing I always do in a new place is make
friends" or "I rarely speak my mind in group meetings."

Lehmann said it's important to note that all the data is from Denmark, so these
predictions may not apply to people living elsewhere – apart from the fact that
most people probably don't really want to know when they're going to die.
