ORIGIN OF UDAYAN CARE

Udayan means rising sun in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India.

India is home to about 30 million orphaned and abandoned children. To change
this appalling reality, Udayan Care is committed to bringing sunshine into
underserved sections of society that require intervention. Headquartered in New
Delhi, it was founded in 1994 by Dr. Kiran Modi. The NGO works to empower
vulnerable children, youths and young women across the country.

It started with one small family ghar (home) for disadvantaged children in 1996.
Today, there are 13 Ghars spread across India, 34 chapters of Shalini
Fellowships — achieving higher education for girls — and 23 Information
Technology centres to improve the employability of underprivileged communities.

Udayan Care has a special consultative status with the Economic and Social
Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) since 2018.

Udayan Care CANADA was launched in 2024 to help further the mission of providing
orphaned and abandoned children a chance to prosper and realize their full
potential.
