“I have had a love affair with Japan ever since I first visited the country at
the age of five. Some 40 years later my relationship with Japan has never been
more intimate. The older I get the more I seem to discover how unique, beautiful
and wise the culture and people of Japan are.

It was in 1998 when I returned to Japan to teach English that I was introduced
to the most amazing word when a co-worker asked me what my “ikigai” was. I
hadn’t heard the word before and was astounded to discover that the Japanese
language had a single word to encapsulate one’s reason for living.

Twenty years later, after stumbling upon the westernised “Ikigai Venn Diagram”
it became my personal mission to correct the misunderstood perception of ikigai
and share with the world what ikigai means to the Japanese. "

As a Nurse executive and emotional intelligence coach, I specialize in the
personal and professional development of individuals. Intrigued by Ikigai, I
came across Nick and the Ikigai Tribe while researching the topic, and after
meeting Nick and learning more about the coaching program, I knew I had to join
the tribe and learn everything I could about the authentic meaning of Ikigai.
Being a member of the Ikigai Tribe has enriched my life on many levels, both
personal and professional.  Throughout the course, I had access to not only
Nick's expertise in Ikigai, but to the many researchers and academics who were
included in the webinars and literature as well. Each cohort was kept at a small
size so that members could share and learn from one another. A great comradery

I started my Ikigai journey buying in to the Venn diagram. One of the greatest
benefits of the programme was learning about Ikigai from Nick who has been
