INDUSTRY UPDATE NEWS SYSTEMS
ISRAEL’S PURE BLUE FISH EYES SOUTH CAROLINA FOR RAS FACILITY

September 27, 2023  By  Nestor Arellano

Israeli aquaculture company Pure Blue Fish (PBF) recently announced plans to
build a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in South Carolina.  PBF
said it intends to begin construction in the fall of 2023.

The planned land-based fish farm in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, will be
the company’s first RAS facility in the United States.

PBF was founded by a team of aquaculture experts led by Igar Avrech, company
chairman; Yuval Weiss, chief executive officer; and Ehud Brill, chief technology
officer.

“It will take about 12 months to complete the construction of the farm’s
facilities, which will gradually have an annual capacity of 4,600 tons of fish,”
a press release from the company said. “PBF plans to harvest a variety of
premium fish species, such as kingfish, croakers, and others, and gradually
increase production over multiple grow cycles.”

The company has been developing its RAS technology for more than 25 years.  Its
RAS was first implemented in Israel.

PBF chose South Carolina for its favorable business climate and strong state
support for the project.

South Carolina’s central East Coast location provides PBF with easy access to
major urban markets across Southeastern U.S. within a six-hour drive, aligning
with the company’s distribution strategy to be located in close proximity to its
customers.

PBF plans to eventually open more facilities across the U.S., using the South
Carolina farm as a model.
