ABOUT MONTO

The town of Monto is a friendly, quaint, rural town on Australia's Country Way
(A3) and is home to a wide variety of historic, cultural and artistic
experiences in the North Burnett. Monto is the most northern and youngest town
in the North Burnett and is situated approximately 200 klms west of the coastal
cities of Bundaberg and Gladstone.

Monto is one of the newest towns in Queensland having come into existence as
recently as 1924 when, under the Land Development Scheme, larger properties were
resumed and prime agricultural land was provided, in smaller lots, to soldiers
who had returned from World War I.

Prior to the arrival of Europeans the area around Monto was home to people from
the Gureng Gureng Aboriginal language group.

Enjoy some good old country hospitality and 'tucka' at 1 of 2 town pubs or at
the RSL. In town you will find cafes, great coffee, supermarkets, Australia
Post, banking, pharmacy and a variety of shops. There is also a medical centre
and a hospital. Bowls and golf can be enjoyed whilst visiting Monto.

'Quality caravan and cabin park'
We decided to stop over in Monto on our way to Lake Boondooma for 3 nights but
stayed 5 nights. The owners of this caravan park, Lesley and Peter, go out of
their way to ensure your experience

within the park, be it caravaning or cabins, is personable, friendly and
informative. The amenities are extremely clean, our caravan is 30 ft long
including towbar and our site was big enough to fit the van and car with ease.
This is a quality c/park and one we will be more than happy to recommend and
revisit.

'Great Hosts, Delightful Town'
I stayed for around two months earlier this year while working at the high
school. Peter and Leslie were terrific hosts and the town itself is a delightful
place to visit. I was in the apartment

attached to the main office building and found it very spacious and comfortable
with a well equipped kitchen and air conditioning which came in pretty handy
during the mad heat. I spent some time exploring the countryside on weekends
which meant heading out to Cania Gorge to hike some trails and the locals were
very friendly at the pub at the bottom of the high street. If you're in to
charcuterie, the two local butchers produce eerything from ham to kasseler to
wurst and jerky. Great stuff. Finished my contract there with some very fond
memories.

'Friendly clean and tidy'
Fantastic place to stay. Owners went out of their way to be helpful and were
very friendly. Facilities were excellent and the grounds, although dry, were
well cared for and very tidy. Pool was also a

'We needed somewhere to stay for 2 nights while visiting friends in Monto'
There was no Motel/Hotel accommodation on short notice. We were able to book
into Jade cabin at the Monto Caravan and Cabin Park which

turned out to be more economical than Motel/Hotel as it was fully self contained
with a separate bedroom and en suite, all linen provided, TV, full size fridge,
stove and oven, microwave, some tea, coffee, sugar. The whole cabin was very
clean and tidy. The outside area was enclosed with mesh (called the Birdcage)
with an outside setting. The whole park was very clean and tidy, lots of
birdlife, 5.5 acre park with powered/unpowered/campsites, in ground pool, pets
welcome (but not in cabins), and close to the town centre. Monto is aalso the
gateway to Cania Gorge National Park just 12kms away. It is a friendly, quaint,
rural town on Australia's Country Way (A3). The Historical Cultural Centre is
right next door to the park and well worth a visit, 2 pubs, RSL, Bowls Club,
bakery, cafe, IGA, Duck Inn Store. A very relaxed, private and peaceful park and
friendly staff.
