Monto is the most northern and youngest town in the North Burnett and is situated approximately 200 klms west of the coastal cities of Bundaberg and Gladstone. Monto is one of the newest towns in Queensland having come into existence as recently as 1924 when, under the Land Development Scheme, larger properties were resumed and prime agricultural land was provided, in smaller lots, to soldiers who had returned from World War I. Prior to the arrival of Europeans the area around Monto was home to people from the Gureng Gureng Aboriginal language group. Enjoy some good old country hospitality and 'tucka' at 1 of 2 town pubs or at the RSL. In town you will find cafes, great coffee, supermarkets, Australia Post, banking, pharmacy and a variety of shops. There is also a medical centre and a hospital. Bowls and golf can be enjoyed whilst visiting Monto. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OUR GPS POSITION 151°6'43"E, 24°51'50"S Read what our visitors had to say on TripAdvisor iPhone/Smartphone barcode map link: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOOK NOW -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTACT US Phone: (07) 4166 1492 E-mail: admin@montocaravanpark.com.au 'Quality caravan and cabin park' We decided to stop over in Monto on our way to Lake Boondooma for 3 nights but stayed 5 nights. Peter and Leslie were terrific hosts and the town itself is a delightful place to visit. I was in the apartment READ MORE attached to the main office building and found it very spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and air conditioning which came in pretty handy during the mad heat. I spent some time exploring the countryside on weekends which meant heading out to Cania Gorge to hike some trails and the locals were very friendly at the pub at the bottom of the high street. If you're in to charcuterie, the two local butchers produce eerything from ham to kasseler to wurst and jerky. Great stuff. Finished my contract there with some very fond memories. Reviewed by Junn K on 4 April 2017 'Friendly clean and tidy' Fantastic place to stay. Owners went out of their way to be helpful and were very friendly. Facilities were excellent and the grounds, although dry, were well cared for and very tidy. Pool was also a READ MORE welcome area. We spent a lot of time watching the kangaroos just outside the park. Highly recommended.
