And this year, we’re taking it to a world heritage site - a venue known for its rolling hills and grassland routes. The popular annual event that has run for over 22 years, and which pivoted to a hybrid format during Covid-19 times, has been confirmed for 20 August 2023, hosted by Gauteng in Maropeng at The Cradle of Humankind. On the eve of our country's 30th year of democracy, the event once again returns to its original feelgood formula – a mass participation event bringing 702Landers together in a shared vision. This year walkers can opt for the 3km walk for persons with disabilities, guardians with their children under the age of twelve, at an entry fee of R180. Alternatively, you can walk at your own pace in the 5km and 8km distances, at an entry fee of R350. All entries secure participants a personalized number, a t-shirt, and a medal. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed in this world heritage site habitat. BUTTONS SECURE YOUR ENTRIES HERE Cards VENUE MORE ABOUT CRADLE OF HUMANKIND After you Walk the Talk through picturesque Magaliesberg grassland, you also have the opportunity to see fossils, learn about how humankind was born, view stone tools that are up to one million years old, and much more. The Maropeng Visitor Centre is an award-winning, world-class exhibition, focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years. You enter via a prehistoric mound - the Tumulus building - and after a boat ride that takes you through a journey of creation of life on the planet and mankind’s evolution, you exit into the 21st century! Take a journey through time, starting with the formation of the planet and moving all the way through the evolutionary processes that culminated in the world as we know it today. The scenery in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site is the kind Instagram was made for but don’t forget to wear comfortable walking shoes! ROUTES LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ROUTES Three routes have been curated for participants with varying degrees of difficulty. A 3km route has been designed for guardians with children under 5 years & persons with disabilities. There are also 5km and 8km walk routes that lead walkers further afield through undulating natural terrain. 3KM 5KM 8KM Walk the Talk 2023 FAQS What date will the 2023 event take place? Sunday 20 August 2023. What are the distances at the event? 8km 5km 3km Guardians with children under 5 years & person with disabilities What are the starting times for the various distances? 9h00 - 8km 10h30 - 5km 10h45 - 3km How much is the entry fee? R350 - 8km R350 - 5km R180 - 3km What does my entry include? It will include a t-shirt, goodie bag and a finisher medal. Are you permitted to run? We do not promote running as this event is a walk. Some of the terrain is uneven so will not allow for running. Where does the walk take place, start and finish? It will take place at Maropeng in The Cradle of Humankind. How do I know if you have received my entry? You will receive an email confirming your entry. How many water points are there on the routes? There are 2 water points on the 8km, and 1 water point on the 5km and 3km routes. There is also a water station at the finish line for all participants use. Are there public toilets along the route? There will be toilets at the start, finish, and on the route. Will there be medical facilities at the event? There will be advanced life support, intermediary, and basic medical assistance available for the duration of the day. Are we allowed to bring dogs to the event Unfortunately, no dogs (or domestic animals) are allowed at Maropeng. Are strollers/ wheelchairs allowed on the route? The 3km route is specially designed to cater to prams and wheelchairs. Is there parking available at the venue? There is ample parking available at the venue. We hope to offer a park and ride – more info coming soon! Will there be entertainment after the race? We encourage participants to plan ahead to stay after the event to make the most of the impeccable surroundings. Bring a picnic basket and chairs - food will be on sale and artists will be performing on the event stage. More details to follow! Please note, no open fires will be permitted!
