ARCHITECTURE & CLIMATE CHANGE

 * November 6, 2024
 * BY Nushrat Jahan

NUSHRAT JAHAN

As a architecture student, I believe the architectural industry is intrinsically
linked to climate change as the design and construction of the buildings
influence energy consumption and greenhouse gas releases. Architects can design
sustainable spaces that meet people’s needs while reducing environmental impact.
By focusing on eco-friendly practices, the architectural industry can
significantly help in the fight against climate change.

One critical way architects can impact climate change is through the adoption of
sustainable design principles. Which includes utilizing energy-efficient
materials and technologies. By focusing on passive design strategies, such as
the building’s orientation and natural ventilation, architects can significantly
lower energy use. Incorporating green roofs and urban green spaces enhances
biodiversity and improves air quality, making cities more resilient to climate
challenges. In addition, architects can advocate for climate improvement with
advanced technology by educating others about sustainable practices in their
communities. How installing indoor gardens can elevate the look of the house at
the same time providing a good cause to the environment. We can see architects
are starting to take this sustainable designing more seriously. By working
together with clients, builders and policymakers, they can promote the adoption
of green building standards and encourage designs that are responsive to climate
needs.

In conclusion the architectural industry holds a powerful position in the fight
against climate change. With the help of sustainable design, collaboration, and
advocacy, architects can
contribute to a more flexible and environmentally mindful built environment.
This effect is essential for fostering a healthier environment.
