ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in Tokyo, Tsugumi Ohba is the author of the hit series Death Note, Bakuman
and Platinum End..
Takeshi Obata was born in 1969 in Niigata, Japan, and first achieved
international recognition as the artist of the wildly popular Shonen Jump title
Hikaru no Go, which won the 2003 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize: Shinsei “New Hope”
Award and the 2000 Shogakukan Manga Award. He went on to illustrate the smash
hit Death Note as well as the hugely successful manga Bakuman, All You Need Is
Kill, and Platinum End.

can basically see through. I mean it kinda makes sense fitting the entire
freaking manga in one book. It’s definitely a shelf pleaser but if im gonna read
Death Note again im gonna stick with the Black Edition.

This is the version to buy if you're on a budget and want to own the whole
series. Does not include Volume 13 "How To Read". I also got this on sale for
$23.99 right here directly from Amazon, so if the price has changed, I might
wait until it returns to that price.
Physical Item Review
The book and slipcase itself are decently put together. The slipcase is
basically just cardboard, but it gets the job done and looks nice enough. It's
easy to slide the book in and out of, which is a pleasant surprise given how
large and unwieldy the book is. The book itself is full of compromises, but ones
that make sense and justify the reduced price of $24. The cover and spine of the
book are sturdy, but the pages are extremely thin and you'll need to be careful
turning the page so that you don't accidentally tear a page. You'll often be
able to see through the page you're reading to what's on the other side of the
page, but it's not too distracting. I'm relatively sure this choice was made to
cut down on the overall weight of the book, because remember, this is 2400 pages
in one hefty tome. Speaking of which, this book is still heavy. I can't imagine
most people will be able to hold this for long without their arms getting tired,
so you'll need something soft to lean this on. The ink on the pages is nice and
thick, yet doesn't seem to smear easily, which is great (I've had ink smearing
problems with other manga and novels in the past). Nothing feels cheaply printed
and everything is easy to read and distinguish on the page. There are even some
editors notes from the original Japanese version that are translated into this
English version that I found very nice additions. One last minor complaint I
have is that the pages are not numbered in any way that makes sense. Some pages
have numbers, most do not. This makes jumping around from chapter to chapter on
re-reads especially difficult, since it's hard to tell what page you're on most
of the time.
Just hope that it gets wrapped in bubble wrap when it gets shipped to you,
because mine wasn't and one corner of the book and slipcase were noticeably
dented. That's on Amazon.
Story Review
This is one of the best manga stories I've ever read. I don't want to spoil
anything, so I'll try to be vague. This is an intellectual duel between two very
well-defined characters that are similar in some ways, and polar opposites in
others. It's a cat-and-mouse game with the future of the world at stake, and it
all feels well thought out and reminds me of the essence of the ideological
battle between Batman and The Joker. Death Note does not rely on action to tell
its story because it doesn't need it. If you're looking for explosions and guns
and punching, this isn't the series for you. If you want incredibly well-written
drama and intelligent characters, this might be a new favorite for you. If
you've watched the anime already, you'll definitely love the original manga,
because the anime is practically a 1-to-1 adaptation of the manga.
Art Review
I'm not much of an art critic, but I wanted to make special note of how well
drawn everything is in this series. It feels like every panel tells you exactly
what you need to know, whether it be visually and without dialogue or with only
a character's face and some dialogue, and doesn't clutter the panels with
unnecessary filler. Facial expressions are of utmost importance in this series,
and they're done extremely well and they almost never feel over the top (except
when appropriate, and it's rare).
Overall, this is well worth the $24 I paid for it, and am glad I bought it. It's
not perfect, but it does a lot for how little it cost and I recommend it to
anyone looking to buy this series on a budget. If money is no object to you,
however, I would probably recommend buying the original 12 volumes in its box
set (plus the bonus features Volume 13 How To Read), or the 6 volumes of the
Black Edition instead (two volumes per Black Edition for the full 12), because
those would be easier to take with you if you plan on reading away from home.

While, for true fans who can afford it, I would deffinitely recommend the Black
edition, this edition is a must have, even if you do own the black edition!
The reason being... IT'S THE BIGGEST FRACKING MANGA THAT EXISTS!!
It's not comfortable when you read it, and it can be used as weights...
BUT ITS SO COOL TO HAVE IT!!

I am a big fan of the death note anime and decided to pick this up because it
was cheaper than buying the box set and there's a bonus chapter, my only
complaint is that it's a little bit awkward to hold and the spine of the book is
prone to creasing

This was delivered way faster than expected. I had suspicion when I got a
package that I wasn't expecting for another 10 days lol the book is smaller than
expected but still amazing nonetheless!

You can read this manga to understand the story of Light, a boy who “saw that
coming so I planned in advance” and his lover, L, who “sigh. Saw this coming”.
Hours of reading a story where everyone is pointing the finger at one another
until something actually happens.
Thrills such as “it wasn’t Me” or “it can’t be me” or “I didn’t do it” are often
coupled with chills and spills like “good thing I saw this coming”
Anyways, At any rate,
It’s the best season of Columbo to come out since the 70’s. And it does what a
manga should do, bide time.

As you can see the book is smaller than one might expect. And give that there
wasn’t a noticeable point of reference in the description about the true size of
the book. I think most ppl would have assumed that it would be of average hight.
It is not. I saw another review saying the same thing and he used his hand as a
size comparison but you couldn’t really tell if it was the book that was small
or if his hand was big so I included a couple of photos myself to corroborate
the past reviews statements. Apart from this thought the book seems to be
standers paperback and well made. The paper used isn’t stander manga paper but
more like traditional comic book or graphic novel paper but a little thicker
than a standard comic book in my opinion. The book came in the mail undamaged
and neatly packaged. It also got here a few days early so that’s a plus. Over
all very happy to get this omnibus Version rather than buying the volumes
individually. So long as you’re not bothered by it’s small stature. I would
recommend

I bought this book for my brother for his birthday and it looks impressive, it
was in the clingfilm as brand new but I saw there was what looked like a price
sticker on the back of the book as indicated in the image.
I removed the cling film thinking I could carefully remove the price sticker
only to find it's actually printed on !!!
Whose stupid idea was this. This is a gift and the price is there in three
currencies, it's really annoying.
Otherwise it's a great book but the manufacturers clearly weren't thinking when
doing this printing.

First of all, the seller R-our books spolied it for me. This epic manga was
ruined because of their poor packaging. It had considerable dents on all
corners. If available with "u-read" order from them. They have least damage
count.
As for the manga, this right here is an absolute beauty without a doubt. All 12
volumes plus a bonus chapter binded into one thick fat spine ( a special and
more durable spine developed for this edition as claimed by the publishers). The
pages, unlike ordinary manga papers, is a semi glossy finished premium papers.
Its definitely the best choice to read it in one go, also at a very attractive
price.
Have completed reading and i have to say, the spine of the book does stand the
test of holding 2400 pages. Moreover, if you have not read this before or want
to read it in paper form for the first time, this definitely is the one for you.
The paper quality is also better than single volumes.
Update: it has been read 3 times [UPDATE: 4 times] now. The spine is as good as
new. They really did do a wonderful job with the spine.

OK I'll freely admit. If this wasn't being presented in one complete edition, I
doubt I would've gone for this in a regular volumised serielisation. But seeing
as it was on offer I gave it a whirl and yeah... Can't understand why this is
such a hot property. You could easily edit 1500 pages from this and it would
still come out as overly complex, convoluted waffle. The whole story probably
has like 2 maybe 3 key moments that are blindingly good for the turning of the
story. Yet the rest of the time it is just page after page after page of some
dudes talking in an office. As they go over things that have been stated a
hundred times in previous chapters... And if I see the word "Kira" (the name of
the murderer everyone is after), again in forever.. It'll be too soon. Literally
2400 pages where the word "kira" appears at least twice in just about EVERY
speech bubble in every panel. Sorry but the appeal of this manga is utterly lost
on me. An overly long and boring read with little to write home about.
Other than that. The Edition is a nice small hefty brick of paper. Would've
rather budget had been spent on a better dust jacket rather than a box to put a
bulk of paper with a flimsy cover in to. But that's me. And the cover IS flimsy.
I had to wonder if that tiny slither of card, barely thicker than the sheets of
paper it holds, was able to manage to keep all its content contained. But it
did. Practicality wise it's probably not the best. Some of the writing was
barely legible because of the small size of some of the print. The book might be
thick, but it is actually much smaller than your regular Manga Volume size. And
of course with other Comics of this size, no one wants to print wider margins at
the crease. So piles of plot and dialogue are either quite tricky to read or
completely unreadable and lost forever down the middle of the book.
Not the worst comic book I ever read. But far from what I would consider
entertaining.

So very good. All in one volume. Good quality paper, box is a really nice touch.
Clear printing and artwork looks great. Note if you are not familiar with the
format this starts at what would normally be the back (in a western book) and
you read it right to left, so if you start at ‘the front’ you will see the
ending.
