DAVID CADDY – CHILDREN’S AUTHOR – BIOGRAPHY

David is an old man with a grey beard and an easy smile. (This photo was taken a
few years ago.) He is married to Elizabeth and they have four children:
Benjamin, Meg, Daniel, and Joseph. Meg writes YA books and the boys all play
musical instruments. They all make a living from what they love doing.

Each morning David waters his garden of broccoli, peas, tomatoes, watermelons,
and passionfruit – whatever is in season.

His family includes a dog called Frankie, which replaced Honey which replaced
Rosie Hotdog Caddy, which is now part of a lemon tree which was chopped down.
There are many ex-budgies. There are ex-silkworms that spent most of their lives
as eggs. There are also ex-crazy crabs. Three chickens and a rooster are gone.
The guinea pig count is now zero. The rabbit, which dug up the house, is an
ex-rabbit! The ghosts of his pets wander the house. If you listen carefully at
night you may hear them.

David’s hobbies include reading, surfing, drumming, playing guitar, and singing.
He doesn’t do any of these things particularly well, but he does enjoy himself.
His favourite places are the ocean, his hammock and egg-chair – the latter two
for reading, writing and napping.

He has an old bomb car, which some of the staff call a pizza delivery car. There
are no electric windows and parts of it are falling off. David uses silicone to
hold it together.

David’s three favourite foods are milk (Is it a food?), lemon meringue pie, and
mashed potato, although not at the same time.

David’s neighbours must be mentioned. Even though they do not speak English,
they communicate with him each day with generous smiles and dishes of Pakistani
food.

David’s worst feeling is when he does a somersault and his stomach tries to
catch up. He does somersaults in the ocean, onto his lounge couch, and
occasionally in the staff room.

His least favourite animal is a cat because it kills so many native animals. But
his daughter has three of them and he loves her more than he dislikes cats, so
he tolerates them.

His favourite colour is light blue. His lucky number is 24.

David is a primary school teacher. This is the job he loves, but I think he
might be slowing down; he sometimes has to seek help from the children regarding
the computers, he groans with aches and pains when he has been on the mat, and
he occasionally loses his glasses or forgets where he has placed his keys.

Lastly,

he loves writing.

He really loves writing.
