SUPPORTING THE WELLBEING OF EDUCATION STAFF

A practical, half day masterclass designed to help you to improve staff mental
health and wellbeing.

> “School leaders’ pay has been cut by 15% in real terms since 2010, and this,
> in combination with high stakes accountability, crushing workload, long hours,
> and inadequate school funding, is driving leaders from the job they love.”
>
> Paul Whiteman, NAHT General Secretary

The 2021 Teacher Wellbeing Index reported that 77% of education staff reported
feeling stressed at work, with a huge 42% saying that their organisation’s
culture was having a negative impact on their wellbeing. With continued reports
of the retention and recruitment crisis worsening, its critical that you can
take steps to prioritise staff wellbeing and mental health.

This half day Masterclass has been designed to give you the knowledge,
resources, and tools you need to do just that. You’ll come away feeling
empowered to make changes to improve your whole school culture, support staff as
individual challenges arise and work strategically to improve wellbeing across
your school.

You will also come away with a clearer understand of your legal obligations when
situations of mental illhealth arise, to ensure that you are responding in a
lawful manner.

Who Should Attend
Headteachers, Deputy Heads, Assistant Heads, School Business Managers, Heads of
Year and other members of the SLT should attend.

Key Learning Objectives
This masterclass will enable you to:

 * Understand your legal responsibilities when it comes to staff wellbeing and
mental health to ensure you are taking the right steps to support them

 * Be able to make reasonable adjustments where necessary to support smooth
   returns to work

 * Understand how boosting staff wellbeing can improve staff retention rates

 * Improve your organisation’s culture to ensure you are developing positive
   working practices

 * Develop a bank of resources and activities to support staff mental health

 * Identify and support staff who are struggling with their mental health

 * Offer positive support to staff who may be on absence due to their mental
   health or wellbeing

 * Have more informative conversations to ensure your staff feel heard

 * Signpost your staff to external support where needed

 * Work strategically with your team to tackle the staff wellbeing crisis
