"On December 29, 2022, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 enacted a new
one-time, eight-hour training requirement for all Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA)-registered practitioners on the treatment and management of
patients with opioid or other substance use disorders" ...

"The deadline for satisfying this new training requirement is the date of a
practitioner’s next scheduled DEA registration submission—regardless of whether
it is an initial registration or a renewal registration—on or after June 27,

This self-study course is intended for DEA-registered practitioners who are
renewing their license or any first-time registrants (with the exception of
practitioners that are solely veterinarians) to fulfill the DEA 8-hour training
requirement on opioid or other substance use disorders, as well as the safe
pharmacological management of pain, including dental pain.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this self-study program, participants will be able to:

 * Explain the general concepts concerning analgesic and controlled substance
   pharmacology.
 * Incorporate strategies to use methods to limit pain that do not involve
   controlled substances.
 * Incorporate strategies to appropriately limit the use of opioids for pain
   management.
 * Identify risks for addiction to controlled substances and signs of occult and
   apparent addiction.
 * Initiate treatment for addiction to opioids or know options for referral for
   definitive care.
