“PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU. NOT AS THE WORLD GIVES DO I
GIVE TO YOU. LET NOT YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET THEM BE AFRAID.”
JOHN 14:27

Tragically taken from us too soon. Our much beloved son, brother, nephew,
cousin, uncle, and friend, Maatti Kenno, 23, born on September 26, 1997, in
Toronto, Ontario, went to be with the Lord, on September 18, 2021, as a result
of a seizure-induced brain damage for which he was admitted to Humber River
Hospital on Sept. 5th.

Family and friends across the globe carried him in their hearts and cried out to
God in prayer so he would miraculously wake up from a coma. We prayed and cried.

But that wasn’t to be. He was tragically taken from us way too soon, and our
hearts are crushed. We still don’t believe he is gone. It has been impossible to
make sense of his life cut short. We are in pain. We cry out for some way to
soothe the burning in our hearts.  We find ourselves wishing it wasn’t real. It
hurts so bad to even put this together, but it is our way of saying goodbye to
him. We already miss him terribly.

Maatti attended Secord Elementary School, D A Morrison Middle School, and
obtained his Ontario Secondary School diploma from East York Collegiate
Institute. He was enrolled at Centennial College, majoring in electrical
engineering.

He is most remembered for his love for kids, for his generosity, for his love
and loyalty to his family and friends, and for helping others. One of his two
favorite phrases was “I love you!” which was how he ended every phone call to
his loved ones.

You could always count on Maatti that he took care of you, and that he made you
laugh. If you needed anything, he would always be there. “I got you!”, meaning
he had your back, was his other favorite phrase.

He was happiest when he made music, and when he was with kids.

A free spirit who lived life to the fullest, through all his battles, Maatti
always loved God. Maatti loved two things, and hated one chore, passionately. He
loved making music. Those with whom he shared his music say he was an amazingly
talented rapper. He dreamt of becoming a rapper. A die-hard fan of the Toronto
Raptors, playing basketball to pass time became a distant second favorite
activity for him.

HE HATED WASHING DISHES.

He is survived by his adoring mother Yadie Negassa Chalte, and his loving father
Hailu Kenno; his sister Obsie Negassa and his brother Eba Negassa; his niece
Shiloh whom he named “Too Beautiful”, and his two nephews Bona and Jehu, “Big
Guy” and “My boy” to him, respectively. He is also survived by several aunts,
uncles, cousins, and close friends.

We feel blessed to have shared such an incredible memory with him in his short
time with us. We shall terribly miss his infectious laugh coupled with his silly
dimple-ridden grin which was guaranteed to brighten your day. In our hearts, he
shall forever remain. May he rest in peace till we meet again in heaven!

REMEMBERING MAATTI

Maatii was generous, loving to his family and his friends. If you needed
anything, he will always be there. And every time l speak to him over the phone,
he always ends the conversation by telling  me ” I love you”. Every single year,
on my birthday, if he’s not able to show up, he would text me “Happy Birthday
old man, I love you”.

He obviously was our mothers favorite person from all of us and she is his
favorite. I will miss Maattii every single day of my life and feel blessed to
have shared such an incredible memories with him.

Matti was a person with a golden heart. He will give someone to eat before
himself. His generosity is beyond anyone can think of. He was goofy in his way.
More than anything our kids lost their greatest uncle, brother, protector and
more. He always says “ if I have a daughter I want her to be ugly because it’s
less trouble when she grows up” that was referring to his niece how beautiful
she was. He has names for all our children. Big Man to our first son, too
beautiful to our daughter and My boy to our last infant boy. His laugh was
infectious, especially when he makes fun of his nephew. His passion was music
and was amazing at it, and he was a die-hard fan of the Raptors.

“Maattie, I don’t know how to say goodbye and I don’t think I can ever be ready
for that. I already missed your bright smile that lights up any room and jokes
that can crack up anyone. Just get up and call me Auntie one more time. I
remember when you were 4 and used to call me Auntie when you wanted something
from me. Maatiye, you will always be in my heart. Love you forever.”

“GOODBYE LITTLE COUSIN, YOU WERE TAKEN TOO SOON. I don’t remember a single phone
call with your mum when she didn’t talk about you. Your mum and dad adored you ,
Matisha. So did we all.

Two weeks ago today, early in the morning, though, I picked up your mum’s call
thinking it was just one of our regular phone calls to each other, but knew
immediately something wasn’t right the minute she said hello after me. I could
hear my heart beat so fast and anxiously hurried her to tell me what it was. She
told me you were in ICU and it was bad. Ever since that morning , just like I
carried you on my back when I saw you first , I carried you in my heart and
cried out to God in prayer so you would miraculously wake up from that coma -all
of us did. We prayed and cried. But that wasn’t to be. You were taken from us
way too soon and our hearts are crushed. I still don’t believe you are gone and
I find myself wishing it wasn’t real. It hurts so bad to even put this together,
but it is my way of saying goodbye to you, my little cousin. Maatisha, rest in
peace till we see you again in heaven. You will always live in our hearts. I
will miss you. “
