NOT AS THE WORLD GIVES DO I GIVE TO YOU. LET NOT YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET THEM BE AFRAID.” JOHN 14:27 Tragically taken from us too soon. Our much beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, Maatti Kenno, 23, born on September 26, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, went to be with the Lord, on September 18, 2021, as a result of a seizure-induced brain damage for which he was admitted to Humber River Hospital on Sept. 5th. Family and friends across the globe carried him in their hearts and cried out to God in prayer so he would miraculously wake up from a coma. We prayed and cried. But that wasn’t to be. He was tragically taken from us way too soon, and our hearts are crushed. We still don’t believe he is gone. It has been impossible to make sense of his life cut short. We are in pain. We cry out for some way to soothe the burning in our hearts. We find ourselves wishing it wasn’t real. It hurts so bad to even put this together, but it is our way of saying goodbye to him. We already miss him terribly. Family and friends across the globe carried him in their hearts and cried out to God in prayer so he would miraculously wake up from a coma. We prayed and cried. But that wasn’t to be. He was tragically taken from us way too soon, and our hearts are crushed. We still don’t believe he is gone. It has been impossible to make sense of his life cut short. Maatti attended Secord Elementary School, D A Morrison Middle School, and obtained his Ontario Secondary School diploma from East York Collegiate Institute. He was enrolled at Centennial College, majoring in electrical engineering. He is most remembered for his love for kids, for his generosity, for his love and loyalty to his family and friends, and for helping others. One of his two favorite phrases was “I love you!” which was how he ended every phone call to his loved ones. You could always count on Maatti that he took care of you, and that he made you laugh. If you needed anything, he would always be there. “I got you!”, meaning he had your back, was his other favorite phrase. He was happiest when he made music, and when he was with kids. He is most remembered for his love for kids, for his generosity, for his love and loyalty to his family and friends, and for helping others. One of his two favorite phrases was “I love you!” which was how he ended every phone call to his loved ones. You could always count on Maatti that he took care of you, and that he made you laugh. A free spirit who lived life to the fullest, through all his battles, Maatti always loved God. Maatti loved two things, and hated one chore, passionately. He loved making music. Those with whom he shared his music say he was an amazingly talented rapper. He dreamt of becoming a rapper. A die-hard fan of the Toronto Raptors, playing basketball to pass time became a distant second favorite activity for him. HE HATED WASHING DISHES. He is survived by his adoring mother Yadie Negassa Chalte, and his loving father Hailu Kenno; his sister Obsie Negassa and his brother Eba Negassa; his niece Shiloh whom he named “Too Beautiful”, and his two nephews Bona and Jehu, “Big Guy” and “My boy” to him, respectively. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. He is survived by his adoring mother Yadie Negassa Chalte, and his loving father Hailu Kenno; his sister Obsie Negassa and his brother Eba Negassa; his niece Shiloh whom he named “Too Beautiful”, and his two nephews Bona and Jehu, “Big Guy” and “My boy” to him, respectively. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. We feel blessed to have shared such an incredible memory with him in his short time with us. We shall terribly miss his infectious laugh coupled with his silly dimple-ridden grin which was guaranteed to brighten your day. In our hearts, he shall forever remain. May he rest in peace till we meet again in heaven! –His loving family REMEMBERING MAATTI Maatii was generous, loving to his family and his friends. If you needed anything, he will always be there. And every time l speak to him over the phone, he always ends the conversation by telling me ” I love you”. Every single year, on my birthday, if he’s not able to show up, he would text me “Happy Birthday old man, I love you”. He obviously was our mothers favorite person from all of us and she is his favorite. I will miss Maattii every single day of my life and feel blessed to have shared such an incredible memories with him. -Ebba Matti was a person with a golden heart. He will give someone to eat before himself. His generosity is beyond anyone can think of. He was goofy in his way. More than anything our kids lost their greatest uncle, brother, protector and more. He always says “ if I have a daughter I want her to be ugly because it’s less trouble when she grows up” that was referring to his niece how beautiful she was. He has names for all our children. Big Man to our first son, too beautiful to our daughter and My boy to our last infant boy. His laugh was infectious, especially when he makes fun of his nephew. His passion was music and was amazing at it, and he was a die-hard fan of the Raptors. -Surafel & Obse “Maattie, I don’t know how to say goodbye and I don’t think I can ever be ready for that. I already missed your bright smile that lights up any room and jokes that can crack up anyone. Just get up and call me Auntie one more time. I remember when you were 4 and used to call me Auntie when you wanted something from me. Maatiye, you will always be in my heart. Love you forever.” Auntie- Soye “GOODBYE LITTLE COUSIN, YOU WERE TAKEN TOO SOON. I don’t remember a single phone call with your mum when she didn’t talk about you. Your mum and dad adored you , Matisha. So did we all. Two weeks ago today, early in the morning, though, I picked up your mum’s call thinking it was just one of our regular phone calls to each other, but knew immediately something wasn’t right the minute she said hello after me. I could hear my heart beat so fast and anxiously hurried her to tell me what it was. She told me you were in ICU and it was bad. Ever since that morning , just like I carried you on my back when I saw you first , I carried you in my heart and cried out to God in prayer so you would miraculously wake up from that coma -all of us did. We prayed and cried. But that wasn’t to be. You were taken from us way too soon and our hearts are crushed. I still don’t believe you are gone and I find myself wishing it wasn’t real. It hurts so bad to even put this together, but it is my way of saying goodbye to you, my little cousin. Maatisha, rest in peace till we see you again in heaven. You will always live in our hearts.
