WHAT IS ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION?

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a common sexual disorder. Men affected by ED have
consistent trouble with achieving and maintaining an erection firm enough to
have satisfactory sexual intercourse. This can have a significant effect on the
quality of life of men and their partners. 




CAUSES AND TREATMENTS

There are different causes to this condition

Vascular Cause

The amount of blood in the cavernous  bodies may not be enough to cause an
erection. This type of ED is called vascular erectile dysfunction. Smoking,
diabetes and peripheral vascular diseases can contribute to this type of
erectile dysfunction. 

Other causes 

 * Hormonal

 * Neurological (diseases of the neurological system, pelvic surgery side
   effects)

 * Psychological (stress, anxiety, depression)

While many men will have reasonable success with oral medication, these
treatments are not the only way to treat ED. One of the alternatives is Low
Intensity Shock Wave Therapy. Studies have shown  this treatment provides an
overall improvement in ED whether used alone or in combination with other
therapies like erectile dysfunction medications. LISWT works best for vascular
and psychological causes of ED. 


WHAT IS PEYRONIE’S DISEASE?

Peyronie’s Disease is an acquired and generally progressive condition of the
penis. It involves the fibrous replacement of the normal elastic tissue of the
erectile bodies. Most men notice the presence of the disease when they feel
thickened nodules under the skin of the penis. As the condition progresses, pain
may occur in the erect or flaccid penis. Curvature of the penis when erect also
occurs, making intercourse difficult or even impossible.


TREATMENTS

There are different options for treating this disease. One of them is a trial of
this novel approach. 

When treating Peryronie’s disease, the pain points in the penis are treated with
LISWT. In a pilot study, shock waves were delivered to the flaccid penis once a
week for a period of five weeks. The studies showed a positive outcome in
relation to reduction in pain on erection.
