#39 - QUIET PEOPLE HAVE IT ROUGH

A lot of people have a hard time dealing with silence, especially in the
presence of another person. In many cultures, silence is viewed as a problem, a
breakdown in communication, or a void that must be filled with some kind of
noise. If the person we’re speaking with is silent too often or for too long, we
tend to associate negative feelings with them such as boredom, awkwardness, and
rejection. This episode will give you a different way to think about silence and
help you to understand quiet people just a little bit better.

What is Life in English?

Life in English a project that aims to teach people English as a foreign
language in a more practical and interesting way. The creator, Tony Kaizen
produces podcast episodes about a wide variety of topics such as culture,
philosophy, language, and personal development so the listener can get exposed
to lots of different accents, dialects, and vocabulary.

You can listen and learn with the podcast episodes on any device with a browser
and internet connection, and then practice your communication skills on Discord
with other Life in English community members.

The podcast does not have any corporate support and there are no ads, so the
membership was created to get financial support from our listeners (so we can
grow and I can create content full-time) and provide them with more value at the
same time.


Where can I listen to the podcast?

You can listen to the podcast on my website, or any major podcast platform such
as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, and Google Podcasts.


What are the podcast episodes about?

Each podcast episode is about something different. Philosophy, music,
government, daily life, relationships, and communication skills are just a few
of the various subjects I talk about on my podcast.

Listening to people speak about a wide variety different subjects will help you
learn more words and comprehend the language more easily... it also just keeps
to learning process interesting because you're not consuming the same thing
repetitively.


What level of English is this for?

This podcast and community are meant for intermediate & advanced learners.

If you can read and understand most of the text on this website, you should be
able to understand the podcast episodes. Every episode comes with a transcript
and vocabulary and grammar guide. This will help you to follow what I'm saying
even if you don't understand every word.

The community has people of all levels from beginner to advanced, and we all
help each other to practice and improve.


What happens on Discord?

On Discord we talk about a bunch of different subjects like philosophy, culture,
sports, education, food, etc. Imagine talking with your friends on a Friday
night. You're eating snacks, drinking wine, and talking about life. That's what
our Discord server is like.

The purpose of this community is to give people a place where they can find cool
people who really wanna learn and grow together on their journey to proficiency
in English. And I'm happy to say that on our Discord server, you can practice
your English every day with real people and you'll actually see an improvement.

We talk via video, voice, and text. I also do livestreams, and we're constantly
sharing different videos, articles, and music with each other.

Do I need the Pro membership to join the Discord server?

No, you can join our Discord server and start talking with us for free. The Life
in English membership was created so that the project and community could grow
with the support of its members (instead of using annoying advertisements.)

Do you have vocabulary and grammar lessons?

I typically don't do vocabulary and grammar lessons on my podcast. However, by
listening to the podcast and reading the vocabulary and grammar guides, you will
naturally start to learn correct sentence structures.

Depending on your current English level and how you use the podcast, you can
expect to learn at least 30 new words and phrases with every episode!


How do I change or cancel my membership?

We hope you never leave us, but in the event that you'd like to change or cancel
