ABOUT US

Father Daughter Team

Jay Short Insurance has been serving Durango since 1986. We are full time Health
Insurance Brokers specializing in MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS, Groups and Individuals.
Our product offerings include Health Insurance, Term Life, Long Term Care,
MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS, Dental and Vision.

Being “Brokers” means that we represent lots of companies and are able to shop
the market and get our clients into the best policy options.

We are certified through Connect for Health Colorado and were able to enroll
hundreds of clients into the new Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant plans,
including getting people all set up to receive subsidies (income based).

With ACA in full swing, health insurance has changed, and we are happy to review
what the new policies look like as well as go over when you may be eligible to
purchase a plan (the good ol’ days of being able to buy individual plans anytime
during the year are gone, we have to have special ‘Life Changing Events’).

You can still buy a new individual plan if you have a ‘Life Change Event’ which
include loosing your job with benefits, getting married, having a baby, moving
to Colorado, and more. Please make sure to call us as soon as you find out about
your ‘life change event’ as you do need to act in time (generally 60 days from
your ‘event’ in order to get a new plan.


BIOS

• I graduated from Fort Lewis College a long time ago and managed to build my
life and career here in Durango. My wife, Sally Short, and I have two grown
children- Merida and Dane, and a new granddaughter Juniper. As one of the most
respected Health Insurance Brokers in town, I represent hundreds of individuals
and dozens of group plans. The majority of my business is referral based.

As an outdoor enthusiast you can find me out on the bike trails, on the river
kayaking, or up on the slopes during my free time.

• Born and raised right here in Durango, I love working with my family business.
I graduated from Fort Lewis College with a double major in Spanish and
Sustainable Development in 2003. I became licensed to sell Life and Health
Insurance in 2005 and joined my father's Agency. My husband Bruce and I
absolutely love spending time outdoors on two wheels or skis with our daughter
Juniper. I am an owner of the agency, an active member in the community, and
appreciate our long standing client relationships.
- Merida Odiorne

• Born and raised in Santa Fe New Mexico, I have been a resident of the
southwest my entire life, Settling in Durango in 1990 to attend Fort Lewis
College. I majored in Business Administration at Fort Lewis College & married my
college sweetheart Shona. Thanks to her I am a dedicated family man and the
father of two young men. I have been a business owner and outdoor sports
enthusiast all my life. The opportunity to work with Jay and Merida was an
opportunity not to be missed as they share similar life values. Through my life
I have participated in many outdoor activities- I enjoy time on a bicycle, on
the snow, in whitewater and with wind sports. I am active in local charitable
organizations and enjoy giving back to the community and helping those in need.
- Forrest Jones

• My family and I moved to Durango in the summer of 2004. Falling in love with
Durango was an easy thing to do. Our daughter is now a teenager, soon to be in
high school. I joined Jay Short Insurance a few years ago. I currently serve
hundreds of clients with insurance through the Colorado Marketplace. I also
assist seniors with their transition into Medicare and provide expert advice on
Medicare Supplements. I also provide group insurance to companies throughout the
area. In my spare time, I am a volunteer for a couple organizations, serve a
local board and am a leader for parents in the community who have child(ren)
with special needs. For fun, our family loves to go on 4 wheel drive excursions,
dine out and explore our wonderful state.
