The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that is to be
loved by everyone.

The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel was opened in the Jerusalem
Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around the capital city.



נווה פריצקי The tunnel links the paths between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The
tunnel's southern entry point is located in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The
northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem about half one kilometer away from the
Kerem junction.





The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated in a ceremony held on
Thursday that was attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'evElkin, Mayor
Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of
cyclists.



Jerusalem was once a popular tourist attraction because of its rich past. Elkin
explained that nowadays as well as its historic treasures, the tunnel project
also incorporates modern-day tourism. "The opening (of the tunnel) is a further
step in the growth of Jerusalem, and it's transformation into a sought-after
tourist destination for all kinds of people in Israel as well as around the
globe."







Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the
project, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels every
year in the improvement of all aspects of Jerusalem's tourism and the
development of exciting attractions and ventures that connect the rich history
of our capital city's eternal past to its future... I invite all cyclists to
come and take a ride along the contemporary, well-maintained road which
overlooks Old Jerusalem.



Elkin's Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.





Elkin stressed, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument for
achieving our dream to change the concept transportation throughout Jerusalem."
"The tunnel, which is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path, will join the
existing cycle paths in the city and will be constructed within the different
neighborhoods. It is designed to encourage cycling within the city's residents
and to promote a green transportation revolution in Jerusalem."



The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the 1990s to move the main sewer line
from the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant in Sorek The Sorek
Tunnel is located to the west of the city. נווה פריצקי It is currently being
used as an infrastructure tunnel that also includes the fifth water line that
connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems

Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium, as well as historic
natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
