INSPIRED BY COMMUNITY

George Turner CEO Carney’s Community and LKY

Since their inception, Live Karma Yoga’s ethos immediately stood out to me, due
to the focus on Community and their work to break down barriers that people
(from any walk of life) might have with accessing Yoga and their support. By
uniting people from so many different backgrounds, they are not only educating
their participants on lifestyles they may not normally come across, they also
empower them to make positive changes in their lives, that of their friends and
families and society as a whole. Add to this, their understanding and delivery
of projects that focus on the relationship between both physical and mental
health, you will see why they have been able to help so many of their
participants. Through the co-founders unwavering positivity and ability to see
the good in all, they have created an amazing community of people who have so
much to offer each other and are a perfect example of one of my favourite
sayings “It takes a village to raise a child” (and their village is
ever-growing)!

Remi Mulla Ex-Prisoner, LKY Ambassador, Yoga Teacher in Training

I could not live with the life I lived and I could not live without it. A part
of me felt like I could not stop and another part like I could not start. It led
me to a prison. I met LKY. LKY taught me to live with myself instead. Not with
some magical cure – with myself. LKY lives and teaches from a place of truth,
yours, mine, ours, everyone’s. It is for everyone and all are welcome. LKY
Teaches us to live with ourselves and each other despite what does or does not
happen and to find freedom through times of ease and hardship. And it works, if
we let it. It did for me, I found freedom from within a prison cell. Wherever
you are give it a try. You may be surprised at what you might find!

Katie Nutley Head of Reducing Reoffending, HM Prison Wandsworth

LKY works with staff and prisoners at HMP Wandsworth. They run weekly sessions
around the prison including Yoga, mindfulness and relaxation. They also provide
an eight week course for prisoners here which men frequently continue in the
community after they are released. This description, though, does not do justice
to what LKY brings to HMP Wandsworth as a community. Prison at its best is an
opportunity for men to learn new ways of thinking about themselves and
understand how they can become members of society who can contribute. We don’t
achieve that as often as we would like to, but Eva, Zara and their team offer
this chance and the results have been inspiring. I am delighted that we are able
to work with LKY and am very appreciative of their work and their tireless
positive energy.
