Health News NUMBER OF GEORGIANS DROPPED FROM MEDICAID NEARS 500,000 At the halfway point in the year of Medicaid “redetermination,” the state is behind in re-evaluating all 2.8 million Georgia Medicaid recipients Credit: Hyosub Shin/AJC Credit: Hyosub Shin/AJC The charity Intown Cares helps people navigate the safety net, including Medicaid, when they can't figure out state websites or reach someone on the phone. In this photo from November, Intown Cares Support Specialist Tanya Davenport, in blue, speaks with a client, Jose Roldan, as intern Chelsea Piccirilli listens. They hold their periodic support sessions behind Druid Hills Presbyterian Church where the Intown Food Pantry operates. On the day this photo was taken several clients were trying to figure out their status in Medicaid redetermination and how to stay enrolled. Georgia began the process of redetermination with 2.8 million Medicaid recipients, which account for a quarter of the state’s population. The state recently released the number it had disenrolled through Dec. 31 — the halfway point in what was projected to be a 14-month project to re-certify all Medicaid recipients. The numbers show it’s not yet reviewed even half the state’s recipients. Officials told lawmakers at the Legislature Tuesday that a shortage of workers has delayed the work.
