How do I apply?
New applicants

The City of Bloomington's online application process allows you to save your
application information so that you can apply for jobs without re-entering the
same information.

As you complete the online application and supplemental questionnaire for a
seasonal position, be sure to emphasize the skills and experience that prepare
you for the job. Keep a copy of your completed application for your records. You
must submit your application materials no later than 4:00 p.m. on the closing
date.

To apply for an opening, complete the online application by clicking "Apply" at
the top of the job announcement and then clicking "Create an account."

If you need access to a free public computer, contact these local organizations:

 * Penn Lake and Oxboro Libraries
 * Minnesota Workforce Centers

Returning users

Applied online previously? The City of Bloomington's online system allows you to
update your application and apply for jobs without re-entering application
information. You may want to update your profile before applying for any new job
applications.

To update your profile, go to www.governmentjobs.com, click "Sign In" and login
with your user ID and password. Click on "Profile" under your name located on
the top right hand navigation bar. After updating each part of the application,
you will be taken to a screen that tells you your information has been updated
and/or completed.

Note: The Chrome browser is most compatible with governmentjobs.com.

Completing a new application
 * Part 1: Registration – This part includes general information about you as an
applicant, password entry and job notification preferences. After
registering, you will be given a user ID and password to use for updating
application information and applying for additional jobs. Be sure to make
note of your user ID and password.

 * Part 2: Applicant Profile – This section contains your employment background
and qualifications that will be used to determine how well you match the job
requirements. It is important that your application shows all the relevant
education and experience you possess. Applications may be rejected if
incomplete. It is beneficial to review and update your answers to the core
questions for every opening to which you apply.

 * Part 3: Job-Specific Questions – Most online job announcements require you to
answer questions related specifically to the position. If the job does not
require job-specific questions, the system will take you directly to Part 4:
   Application Confirmation.

 * Part 4: Application Confirmation – When you have successfully completed the
online application, you will be taken to a screen which reads, "Your
application has been submitted." This confirms that your application has been
submitted to the application database. After it is submitted, your
application will be reviewed and you will be contacted if you are selected to
move forward in the hiring process.

Supplemental questionnaire tips

Responses to the supplemental questionnaire, if required, are part of the
application screening process.

 * Be specific when responding to questions.
 * Do not combine answers or use "see above" or "see resume."

Information for full-time applicants

orientation, disability, age, marital status, status with regard to public
assistance, or membership or activity in a local commission. The City will take
Affirmative Action to ensure that employment practices are free of such
discrimination.

established probationary period.

admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its services, programs or
activities. Upon request, accommodation will be provided to allow individuals
with disabilities to participate in all City of Bloomington services, programs
and activities. If you require accommodation in the hiring process, please
contact the Human Resources Department at (952)563-8710.

equal opportunity mandates.

authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the information
submitted.

Veteran's preference information

The City of Bloomington awards preference to qualified veterans and spouses of
deceased or disabled veterans, subject to the provisions of applicable Minnesota
statute.

Veteran’s Preference Statutes provide a preference to U.S. citizens or resident
aliens who have attained a passing score on the entrance exam and who have
received an Honorable Discharge or Separation after serving more than 180
consecutive days in the military for purposes other than training. Veteran’s
preference may be used by the surviving spouse of a deceased veteran and by the
spouse of a disabled veteran who, because of the disability, is unable to
qualify.

conditions are met:

 * The applicant has completed the veteran’s preference section of the
   employment application.
 * The City of Bloomington’s veteran's preference questionnaire is completed.
 * The applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
 * Supporting documentation is provided.
 * The claim for preference is approved.

Applicants claiming preference MUST provide the City with a copy of your form
DD-214. Disabled veterans must also supply form FL-802 or an equivalent letter
from a service retirement board. Spouses applying for preference points must
supply their marriage certificate, the veteran’s DD-214 and FL-802 or death
certificate.

Documentation must be received within 7 calendar days after the deadline date
for the position in order to be considered.

Attach your documentation to your application or submit it to:
