ABOUT ME

Hello, I am Isabella Ortega, but my preferred name is Bella. Currently, I am in
my fourth year at Whittier College, where I am majoring in psychology. By May
2023, I am expecting to graduate with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My
journey as a student at Whittier College has allowed me to develop new skills
and refine skills that I already possess. I have been able to focus on my
communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills. I have taken courses
that are relevant to my major and career goals, such as abnormal psychology,
psychology of personality, psychology of adolescence, and social psychology.
These courses provided fundamental knowledge of mental health disorders, how
people develop, and how people connect to others. However, I have taken courses
outside of my major that have expanded my knowledge and interests, such as
courses relating to religion and biology.

 

My goal for the future is to attend graduate school and earn a PsyD. in Clinical
Psychology. I intend to work as a correctional psychologist so that I can work
with individuals who are incarcerated. The reason why this career path is highly
interesting to me is because when I began researching what a correctional
psychologist does, I was amazed to learn how many people there are in prison and
how many people need mental health support. When I was younger, I realized that
I really enjoy helping other people because it is rewarding, even if it is
sometimes challenging. I would like to work with a population of individuals
that are underserved due to the stigmas surrounding them. I believe that
everyone should have a chance to get the proper help and support.
