In 1928, they released “Steamboat Willie” which helped them breakthrough in the
market. The two early cartoons that were released were relatively successful.

Ublwerks, an illustrator and a friend from Film Ad, alongside Roy, helped Walt
create a new character and they named it Mickey Mouse. After that incident, he
made sure that all his ideas and creations were closely monitored and that he
would be the only one to have absolute control. He ignorantly allowed the
distributor to write the copyright under his name and not the Disney name.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, his first ever commercial successful creation, was
stolen from him. Roy helped him to manage his business and with his help, he
started to make some money. When he moved to Los Angeles in 1923, he teamed with
his older brother Roy, who was a business man. He left his apartment and began
sleeping in his office, where he survived by eating cold beans. Faced with
mounting debts and no money to pay his bills, Walt Disney filed bankruptcy in
1923.

The distributor began to cheat Disney out of his money causing the new filmmaker
to fall short on the funding needed to cover his finances. It was a difficult
task to convince local theater owners to show it. (Years later, The Walt Disney
Company would buy ABC which owned The Kansas City Star.) He never found much joy
in advertising so he turned his garage into a studio, borrowed some equipment
and began making his own shorts called Laugh-O-Grams. He was later fired from
the paper for his “lack of creativity”. When the war ended, he relocated to
Kansas City, Missouri and took a job at the Kansas City Star newspaper. During
World War 1, he could break free from his father as he joined the Red Cross
Ambulance Corps and he was shipped to France. Walt started drawing at a young
age and he found relief and distraction from his father through drawings. He had
an authoritarian father who never thought twice about disciplining Walt and his
brother Roy. The childhood of Walt Disney was very complex. The journey that
shaped this great movie mogul and his great empire was much more intricate. He
created a globally accepted icon, Mickey Mouse, which is still being culturally
embraced until today. He also created the first animated film and theme park. He
came up with game-changing ideas, including the first ever cartoons with
corresponding sound. Since the turn of the 20 th century, only a handful of
people have had a greater impact in the entertainment industry and popular
culture than Walter Elias Disney.

the consumption styles of the higher-class individuals to enhance their own
status, those observing that high status others have rated a particular product
or experience favorably may also rate it favorably. In particular, like many
behaviors governed by social norms, status seeking can homogenize the
evaluations and other contributions made by crowd members. Yet status seeking
may also be a source of bias or distortion in what is contributed by the crowd.
In particular, Lampel and Bhalla’s study shows that status seeking is a reliable
passion that motivates people to continuously participate in online communities.
People seek status to improve their positions in groups or organizations. Status
seeking is a type of social incentive for participation that is relevant to
crowd wisdom, especially in crowdsourcing platforms that feature opportunities
to display or signal status. For instance, people participate in citizen science
project to enhance their reputation, and participate in crowdsourcing
policymaking to mainly learn about the laws. It is also important to note that
social incentives are very dependent on the platform and the type of activity.
That is, to achieve the effect of the wisdom of crowd, these platforms require
that many individuals volunteer their unique knowledge or evaluations. An
important precondition for functional crowd wisdom is large-scale participation.
One such influence is the social incentive for participation in the platform.
Yet, little work has examined sources of distortion that are endemic to
crowdsourcing itself. While these general sources of distortion can be a
challenge, many can be addressed with policies, such as blinding others’
identifications, without sacrificing important aspects of a crowdsourcing site.
Nonetheless, such social influences may distort the wisdom of any crowd or
group, rather than influences that pertain specifically to the dynamics of
crowdsourcing platforms. For instance, social influences such as herd effect can
mislead crowds by homogenizing individual responses, reducing the crowds’
advantage in gathering diverse information. Researchers have long recognized
this vulnerability in crowdsourcing. This provides a theoretical reason to take
the content on platforms such as Wikipedia or Yelp seriously.Ĭrowds, however,
are not always wise. The effect of wisdom of crowds refers to the idea that the
judgments of many non-experts can be aggregated into a product whose quality
rivals or even surpasses that of an expert. The “wisdom of crowds” is a commonly
embraced idea by crowdsourced review sites. The findings suggest the importance
of studying sources of distortion that are endemic to crowdsourcing itself. This
leads to a different kind of distortion to crowd wisdom: an over-representation
of status-conferring products and an under-representation of products that are
not status-worthy. The impact of this individual-level tendency is confirmed by
our aggregate-level analysis which shows that restaurants with higher price
levels, higher uniqueness levels, and a larger percentage of elite reviews tend
to obtain enough reviews to generate wisdom of crowds sooner than other
restaurants. Using Yelp restaurant reviews in 6 cities, we found that
motivations of status seeking lead people to review a greater variety of
restaurants, and achieving status further encourages this variety seeking as
well as the targeting of more expensive restaurants for review.

This study shows that while status seeking motivates people to participate in
crowdsourcing platforms, it also negatively impacts the bedrock of
crowdsourcing–wisdom of crowds.

This shows that clients actually needed to borrow a bit less than they were
expecting - a common occurrence and one which is caused by capital projects
taking longer than planned (‘slippage’) and reserves which shrink less than
expected or grow. The points where the lines hit the y-axis show the difference
between the previous years’ projections in the lighter colour and last year’s
actuals in the darker. Local authorities over this two year period monitored are
expecting to borrow increasing amounts, but to do it a bit later. The main
feature that stands out is the shift of the graph upwards and to the right. This

What we have also been able to do is put together what this graph looked like
last year and then a year earlier. As you can see from the graph those local

UNDERCOVER GRANDPA MOVIE SUMMARY

The screenplay is right in allowing them room to discover why that’s a bad idea.
Her two best friends, Kayla ( Geraldine Viswanathan) and Sam ( Gideon Adlon),
end up doing the same, not out of love, but of the social pressure of having to
keep up. Kathryn Newton plays Julie, who vows to lose her virginity to her
boyfriend on prom night. Perhaps it’s because all six leads are thoroughly
beguiling. But then the characters slowly took shape, the actors filled out
their shoes and against my better judgement, I began to care about them. Even
its beginning was somewhat problematic. I enjoyed much about this movie, and I
didn’t think I would after seeing its early trailers. How about if we didn’t
have the butt-gulping? Or the testicle-grabbing? What if Blockers had been an
earnest comedy about growing up, exploring sex and freaking out your parents?
That in order for us to fully appreciate the natural art of love-making, we must
first see a really big guy gulp a bottle of beer through his butthole. It seems
to think sex and toilet humour are somehow connected. Frank Scheck of The
Hollywood Reporter gave the film a negative review describing it as "(n)either
remotely thrilling or funny" and that it "isn't any fun." Edward Douglas of Film
Journal International also gave the film a negative review and wrote "It’s hard
to call Undercover Grandpa a 'comedy,' since there’s never anything particularly
funny about it." The film was released on Netflix streaming on November 1,
2017.Blockers is more satisfying than expected, but could certainly do with some
clarity.īlockers is a confused little movie. Sandie Angulo-Chen of Common Sense
Media gave the film three stars out of five. Jessica Walter as Madelein 'Maddy'
Harcourt.James Caan as Grandpa - Major Lou Crawford.Grandpa and Maddy then drive
off for a life in Mexico.

Grandpa Lou gets out and tells Jake that his death was only a cover like his
"old man crazy act" was a cover for his first retirement. One month later a car
pulls up in front of Jake's home. The old timers present Lou's dogtags to Jake.
Family and friends pay tribute with grandson Jake crying. The next scene takes
us to a graveside funeral for Grandpa Lou. As Maddy Harcourt government agents
arrive on the scene, Grandpa is seen grabbing his chest and is rushed off to the
hospital. Grandpa's forces defeat the Russians and Angie is freed. There are a
lot of comic situations and corny lines between the young and old characters.
Also, to theJake enlists the computer and cell phone expertise of his friend,
Wendall. Grandpa collects together Wolf, Harry, Mother and Giovani, his old
group who were known as the 'Devil's Scum'. Grandpa Lou gets his grandson's
trust and they decide to rescue Angie on their own.

He is unable to get any help from government officials. Unknown to Jake, Grandpa
is a retired intelligence officer. Grandpa is paranoid and sees the enemy around
every corner.Īngie gets kidnapped by a Russian General Komencho. Jake is going
to miss his first date with the girl of his dreams and no less has to hear crazy
Grandpa's dubious war stories again. She agrees to a date for an upcoming party
but Jake's parents insist Jake stay home for a dinner with Grandpa Lou.

Jake and Wendall are two high school friends trying to get Jake a date with
Angie. Undercover Grandpa is a 2017 Canadian action comedy film directed by Érik
Canuel and starring James Caan, Jessica Walter, Louis Gossett Jr., Dylan
Everett, Paul Sorvino and Kenneth Welsh.
